Brother Bill Von Seggern 70th Birthday Party 04/21/07 Brothers: Ab Lawton '53, (hat white band), Ray Thaler '55, (red cap) Bill Von Seggern '54, (blue shirt). Bill's party was a surprise pulled off to perfection. Bill's son got him out of the house and drove him somewhere and didn't return until 3:30. About 80 people were at his house by 3:00 milling around the back yard having a drink or two. When his son was 5 minutes away, he called and gave the code. Everyone was told to go out front to the street, the Birthday Boy was coming. His son came around the block and everyone ran toward the car shouting "Surprise -- Happy Birthday". Later Bill said when they turned the corner, he thought it was a murder scene. |

| My visit with Don (DeVane) -- --- June 10, 2008 Friends of Don. My wife and I visited him at his assisted living residence June 10 th and also took him to lunch. His room is small but comfortable, with flat screen TV, fireplace, bed, fan, family pics, and shelves (no nude pics, though). He first showed us the composite pictures of our high school fraternity and also of the football team many of us played on - a pic for each of '61, '62, and '63. Seeing all those faces made us reminisce about a lot of them - damn, we looked like little kids !

My visit with Don (DeVane) -- --- June 10, 2008 While driving to town he gave us a "verbal tour" of the houses and buildings, some history of each, and I was impressed with his recall and articulation - which I felt required considerable effort and concentration. His resolve to maintain a semblance of normalcy and composure is remarkable. One of the attached pics is of him and my wife at the restaurant at an outside table, on which he insisted. No surprise that many of the patrons came by to chat him up and joke around. It's a good feeling to see how much people there admire and respect him - everyone seems to know him.

My visit with Don (DeVane) -- --- June 10, 2008 After lunch we went to the shop to see Irene and visit for awhile. One of the pics is in front of the door to the shop. Don took me on a short excursion around the various other shops, bar\restaurants, galleries, etc. and gave me a brief history of them all - including a story he was particularly proud to share about a good looking woman with notable characteristics that told him she gave facials for $50 (sure, Don). He wouldn't admit to whether he ever got one.

My visit with Don (DeVane) -- --- June 10, 2008 There are pics of his assisted living quarters and of us wearing his sombrero, which was on the fireplace mantle and he insisted on having pics taken of us wearing it. Always a good sense of humor. As always, his attitude was positive and his outlook realistic, given the circumstances. Seeing and visiting him was bitter-sweet.
