STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/19/2007 11:37:30 By Herb Stebbins
The original thread about having a BBQ this Summer in september (Shooting for Labor Day Sunday) for everyone, families etc. was deleted in error.

The event is now being planned for September, probably Tropical Park venue (can handle bigger crowd) and the food is being planned (Pig Roast etc)...

This is to continue the planning communications between the Brothers leading to this event - come one - come all!!!!

Stay tuned for all the details.

Herb

Herb, glad we finally were able to connect... I spoke to my Butcher today and he said he needs at least 2 weeks notice to get my order together ...he says to figure one and a half pounds per person on the pork and the rest is easy....Black beans , Congries ( a mixed ration of Black Beans and rice ) yucca ( a root like potato) fried plantains ( sweet bananas) and Tostones ( a green banana that is partially fried and Re-fried as a chip.......Banana chips and lots of mojo....which is a combination of Garlic , Onions and Sour orange that the pork is marinated with , along with your wonderfull smoked sausages for picking at, while waiting for the pork ....we will also provide some Cuban made Chickens which will melt in your mouth and lots of cuban bread to dip in the mojo......for you that may show interest in showing up , we will leave refreshments ,beer and liquor to you all to bring in.... get the word out toall and see if we can put it all together......Gastonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Gaston:
I like the basic flan with the slightly over done caramel topping... Can't find it anywhere but down there... I can taste it already.
Let's move the date up ... can't wait!!!

Last week I took a day to visit all three locations...Crandon Park, Kendall Indian Hammocks Park and Tropical Park.
Crandon (Covered Pavillion) is $75.00 plus $37.45 for the Baseball field for 2 hours. Kendall Indian Hammocks is $261.38 (Covered Pavillion) plus $36.38 for the Baseball field for 2 hours. Tropical is $250.00 (Covered Pavillion) plus $37.00 for the Baseball field for 2 hours.
Pros and cons. Crandon is a ZOO. It has heavy traffic during the weekends and has more people then you can shake a stick at. Kendall Indian Hammocks is a nice place but the Baseball field is 150 yards or so from the covered Pavillion. Each Pavillion houses about 40 people.
Tropical has larger Pavillions housing 75-80 people plus the Baseball field is within feet of the Pavillion. There is plenty of parking and room for Horse Shoes.
Gaston is working on a figure for the "Cuban Pig" and sides. Once I have that I will have the total amount. You can see for a large group the cost per person will be minimal.
I think it would be a good idea if everyone brought their own drinks and maybe an appetizer.
I will smoke 15-20 lbs. of different sausages. I'll smoke some Tongue for Tim.
Please post your thoughts on this. Do you think some time around Labor Day is good? (September 2)
Lets get the Sweethearts and Sponsers involved along with Marie and Linda Hardeman (spelling?)
If you're interested please post your thoughts.

September 2 is good for me as I have to leave for NYC on Labor Day...an observation from an old fart...most of these outing have been around slow moving sports such as fishing & golf. I would think something like volleyball or a low impact sport would be more enjoyable and less of a risk of injury. Of course what do I know just that I can still hit the ball well but getting to first base would be tough. And who besides Gastonnnnnnnnnn and his group of domino players can play 2 hours of baseball...hay that's an idea domino's...I'm driving 3 1/2 hours each way just to see you guys and I need a little time to catch up and not try to get a few words in to Gastonnnn while he's in the on deck circle applying pine tar to his"bat"

Herb:
Whatever, with the exception of the 'tongue' - I have my own thanks!. Some may want mine cooked at various times but I've managed to keep it so far!

(I'd rather have chicken livers... there are plenty of those around Tropical Park from what I remember).

Anyway Tropical Park gets my humble vote... Sunday (day before Monday Labor Day) also my vote... allows for travel time before and after with Holiday...

U R The BEST!!!

Herb again great idea and it will give the brothers the chance to bond with not only each other but with family's.

And with Gastonnnnnn in charge of the pig (what else is new)and you cooking 20 pounds of sausage and each attendee might like to bring one of their favorite side dishes....sounds great...

Let each person bring their own selection of drinks.

Invites should go as far Northeast as Billy and Northwest as far as Scrapper. Who know those guys might get a motorhome and bring it down for the weekend.

Get invites down to the Keys with Kraut and Ray needless to say Jim will be there.

I'm asking each guy who looks at this site to put in a little feedback so Herb can plow forward.

Terry

Herb, everything sounds great, I think we will draw a big crowd. Have you checked availability for Labor Day? I'm guessing that may have been booked long ago. Not trying to be a turn off but it is Labor Day and that means picnic up the ass. Better book it now if you can, get me a call about that.

Jim

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/24/2007 09:01:22 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Herb, how about if we made it more interesting for those that would travel to the get together and make it a weekend to remember and have a Golf outing and open invitation to friends and their families and other clubs to be a part of the gathering...Its open to a vote from all ...how do you all feel about it??????.....

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/25/2007 08:21:25 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Gaston, I'm afraid if we opened it up to all then we might have a problem with space. Just my opinion but why don't we see what kind of response we get from the members first.
If we have it on Sunday then you could always have the golfers come a day early and play on Saturday. When we get a response (commitment) from the Brothers then you will have a better idea of those who might attend a day early to play golf. You won't have to look too far for golfers....You will have the DOOZIE attendees, plus Arty, Isidro and Bischoff.

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/25/2007 09:05:46 By Tim Yero
Gaston y Herb: Como Esta'?

Good idea... golfers on Saturday, lushes on Sunday (one in the same in most cases)... It will be a 'busy' weekend with every 'golfer' in the world trying to play somewhere on Saturday. So, a definite RSVP with starting time (AND a definite $deposit) will be required to get a course to play on that date. Who is going to make that happen?

Families and friends I think would be o.k. too.
Space will not be a problem... The Tropical huts are plenty big for cooking etc.. and lot's of room otherwise. I went to Tropical for the Southwest vs Gables game on Easter with the other 25,000 people that were always there; different times, same venue... no squish!

Organizing this requires patience and persistence(Just ask Billy! He knows for sure and is still recovering by going fishing for a month after the Doozie!!).

How many people we have won't be a problem with proper planning, prompt and accurate responses from attendees. Make a deadline for response (RSVP) and keep the deadline rigid... no surprises.. once we have accurate numbers everything should be more simple.

Getting these numbers is difficult and the hardest part of the process so make it a requirement by a certain date. Give everyone till let's say August 15th. If you don't RSVP bye then, then you are not invited. Also, require a $5 or $10 fee in advance. If someone RSVP's and does not show, we eat their food and they pay the $5 or $10 bucks per person in advance anyway...
Same for any other activity -like the golf.

SO, REPLY BY AUGUST 15th WITH THE NUMBERS AND THE BUCKS... NO REFUNDS AND NO OTHER EXCEPTIONS.

POST WHERE THE RESPONSES AND CHECKS< CASH< MONEY ORDERS GO - NOW!!!

(Hard words but just the facts of organizing well).

*******************GUYS AND GALS******************
I hate to do this without any debate but I was put in a position that if I didn't reserve a place now then we would be SOL. The people at Tropical Park said that nothing would be availible for September 2nd a week from today. I had to pay in advance.
So this is what we have. The BBQ will be on September 2nd from 10am to 6pm. I rented Pavillion #9 which is located next to the baseball field we rented. The baseball field was rented from 1-3pm.
I will give directions to the Pavillion later.
The Pavillion seats 65 people. (8 large tables) If we get more then that then a few of us may need to bring some from home.
The charge per person will be $10.00. Everyone will bring their own drink of choice and one appitizer. The contract I signed says no glass bottles. Gaston will be handling the Cuban Pig and the side dishes. I'll prepare 15-20lbs of smoked sausage. (some beef tongue for Tim and Cheese Wiz for Garcia).
We will be set up for volleyball and horse shoes.
If any of you have Softballs, (get your head out of the gutter Terry) bats and gloves please let me know. Edgar may be able to help in this area.
I will be gone for the next 5 days so if some of you could start a phone tree and at a minimum contact the people in South Florida. Direct them to this Thread.
I will need your checks no later then August the 2nd.(of this year) Payable to Herb Stebbins ($10/person, not family).
Mail the checks to my home address...4945 SW 93rd Ct. Miami Florida 33165. Please call and leave a message on my home answering machine as to your intentions (number of people in your group). 305-279-9496. Also state your intentions on this thread. This will give everyone 2 full months to make a decision and get their money to me.
Please get involved and call as many Brothers and Sisters as you can. Thanks to all! "Party On"
Herb

Herb:
Great. (but is pork tongue any different than beef? The pig has a tongue already - I hope... PS You were not there but Manny did not eat all his Cheeze Wiz at the Doozie - he still has some left - he said it was for the next Hurricane but he probably could be convinced to use it only for your Labor Day Stags Bash)...

Somebody needs to nack me up on this (I may be wrong) but I truly do not recall playing in any softball games with Stags. We did play a few padless tackle games against other clubs (Most of us lived thru it)...

From what I do recall - softball at that time was for girls. Therefore, if Stags is playing 'softball' I say we do not need any gloves at all. Real men play softball without gloves.

I know Jim B will have no problem with this as he does not expect any balls to be hit to him out of the infield... a dribbler hit thru the infield (If it happens) will not require a glove for any reason.

The 'real reason' though, is my glove (Which was used for hardball only in '65) has long since turned to dirt (along with everything else from '65)... God Bless wherever it may be.

Tim, all three years that I was at Gables we played Softball and Football games against other fraternities. We played fraternities from other schools too. They normally ended in brawls.
Some of the best football games I ever played in were against some of the older Black guys from the Grove. They were brutal.

Herb:

Great job...count Dawn and I in....I will get a hotel room for the night of the 1st but will have to leave at 6pm on the 2nd.

How do we know that the pig is Cuban. Does the pig habla? How can you tell if no tonque?

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/25/2007 06:23:08 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, " EL COCHINO" is Cuban-American.....I will be choosing him or her tomorrow to make sure it is put on a proper diet till his last day....I'll let him know you will be attending and that you are looking forward to see him.....

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/25/2007 06:50:52 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Terry, glad to hear you and Dawn are comming. It wouldn't be a party without you two. Please get in touch with the guys in and around your class and refer them to this thread. (Ernie and Jackie for sure)
Cuban Pigs are marinated in Mojo. It makes all the difference in the world. Also the slow cooking process.
If you need more proof then that I guess you could kiss it gently on the ear and buy it a few drinks.
Just hope it's a female pig.

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/26/2007 07:57:03 By Terrence W. Grant
Gastonnnnn...in todays paper a 9 yr old boy killed an American pig it was 9 feet 4" and weighed 1,051 pounds..how much Mojo do you need for that one

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/26/2007 08:56:22 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, just for you ,I will answer that question....an average pig of about the size that i have done before(70-100 lbs) to marinate over night and then cook an average of 6 to 8 hrs, I have to make about 2.5 -3 gallons of MOJO..so figure , it would take me a week to peel, cut , mash and squeeze to come up with the right amount...# 270 onions,340 cloves of garlic, the juice from 440 sour oranges,108 navel oranges,180 meyers lemons and 72 tangerines...boy I'm tired just putting the MOJO recipe together ....

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/26/2007 10:30:09 By Terrence W. Grant
speaking of oranges...the purchase of Nov 2007 juice in the $1.56 per pound area might be a good investment if the crop is hit by a hurricane one contract is 15,000 pounds...speculative as is any commodity/stock investment

Gastonnn Dawn wants to know where her coffee maker is...i thought she had received it as you said you had it in your trunk at the fishing club party..i dont drink that expresso stuff so i was out of the loop

Herb, my check for two is in the mail. I think we will have a big crowd for this event.

Due to the closest in dates we will not have our annual Stags Night Out at the Fishing Club this year.

Everyone please send in a check today, so Herb can recope his lay out for the park rental fee. This will help keep tabs on attendance, which is always a pain in the ass, so help your Stag Brother by acting now.

Jim

Terry:
Business proposal: Vodka would be much easier to store and distribute than orange juice would be during/after a hurricane. Plus, vodka trees don't blow away in a hurricane so you would not have to go searching for your investment.

and ... after the hurricane was over and you sold most all of the vodka, you could take off to Belize or wherever with the cash and some left over vodka - for those Russian girl's consumption.

Two birds with one stone; plus some cash - what a great way to benefit from a hurricane!

Gaston:
An Email is being sent out to everyone with an email address on this site. From everything I have seen in the last year, not a whole bunch of Stags frequent the site (other than us)...

I suppose phone calls will also be a follow up.
Not much else can be done except 'word of mouth'.

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/31/2007 12:35:50 By john scopetta
We need to define the format for the softball games that will get the ball rolling. The late sixties guys will accept any challenge, Frisbee, horseshoes, beer drinking hotdog eating, one legged sack races the only one we don't do is shuffleboard. For you Tim we can set up a T ball at the plate so you don’t blow your back out.
We should divide it by time from ten to twelve softball games twelve to two lunch two to four Frisbee, chipping, dominos etc. any other activities we may want to cover.

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/31/2007 12:57:10 By Tim Yero
John mi bro':
I don't think I'd be able to swing a bat very well so a ball tee (other than in golf) will not be helpful... I cannot throw either... My cortizon shot has worn off since the Doozie and I don't plan on getting another any time soon.

I really wish I could play and don't feel good about not being able to participate as a one time member of Gables High Baseball team and later on played on Webster's State champ fast pitch team (With my 'little league' teammates from the CG Youth Center Tito Gomez and Ron Hunt).

If anything - I can either umpire and/or keep the score from under the nearest hut sipping on a nice Jack and Coke while all you one time jocks pretend you are 18 again. Bring your insurance cards!

PS Any arguments with the umpire or score keeper will be met with contempt (there will be no changes of original calls or rulings) and/or will be negotiable via cash only! (The larger the bill, the better the call shall become)..

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/31/2007 01:03:52 By Terrence W. Grant
As I said before I can still hit the ball but cant run or slide...I'll get John D too pinch run for me.

I would like to play vollyball and if I can get my brother Leidy to show up...we take on all 2 man teams.

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 05/31/2007 03:12:59 By Herb Stebbins(68)
John that's a good idea. Can you imagine all the 68 guys on one team. That could be ugly for the rest. Just an idea, but we could spread the talent out over two teams. Anyway we do it,we have the baseball field from 1pm-3pm. I'll get there early so the Volleyball and Horse Shoes will be set up by 10am.
Tim, you being the umpire sounds GREAT! By the way, do you like Bernaise Sauce with your Aged Prime Rib? And....will it be Macanudo's again?? lol
Terry, come on now....Running is a state of mind. I'm bone on bone in my right knee and I will bite the bullet for the team.
There must be motivation in running. You are motivate by pleasure or fear.
If it's pleasure, just fantasize chasing after a beautiful woman. You've done that thousands of times before. If it's fear, just picture yourself being chased by Billy Adams after throwing a beer in his face and insulting his wife. Either way, you'll haul ass.
It would be nice if we could get John Norris and Jack Lamb to attend. I'll work on that.
I'm sure Jim B will have the emails out shortly and I will work the phone next week.
Does anyone own a Defibrillator with instructions? It might be nice to have if Terry goes South on us.
PARTY ON DUDES !!!

Herb:

My check is in the mail for two....I also mentioned if there are any brothers who need a scholarship for this event; please let me know.

By my sending in a check it should entice some of these candy ass guys of the 60's to send a check in just to kick my ass.

Looking forward to seeing everone and remeber this is taking the place of the annual event at the Fisherman's Club.

I think we need a good turnout so we can get a feel of a major reunion in 2008.

Herb, a game of baseball or softball with the (67-68 STAGS) would cause anyone to SHAKE in the pants...A or B team.... imagine the line up.....Perpich, who was mentioned in the same paragraph;s and Johnny Bench for his Talent ...Meneses and Moll, top picks in the draft from the Mets and Astros.....But decided to play college and were top of the pecking order in College at STETSON,,,,,,the line up....Meneses, Moll, Perpich, Ruiz, Norris Scopetta, Suarez, Bishoff, Helmly, Tyler, Injaychock,Kimel,Stebbins,Ahjar,Abney,Ott, Holloway,Woods , Richardson,Morrison< Garcia , Montgomery ,Raul, Isidro,Ortegas and so many others ....bring it on...sorry If I forgot a few guys........Dominos , best player ever that I have seen ...Louie Tezanos , won the top price in Dinner Key , competitions against the best in Miami and made them all look STUPID......

Thank you Terry. Like I said, it wouldn't be a party without you.
I spoke to Jim Bozek today and he will be sending out emails and snail-mails next week. I think we will have a wonderful turnout.
Terry, like you said, it will be a nice build up to the Reunion in 08. Boy am I looking forward to that.
Gaston, you are right. Even at are age we have and had Brothers that could get the job done.
Lorenzo, Edgar and Jimmy were really great ball player.
Only thing I will really miss is Tommy Ott there snapping the pictures.

Here We Go Again: (Whitesnake 1985)
Herb: no to the Bernaisse (Donna won't eat Prime rib witout it but I prefer a horse radish concoction I make instead)... Macanudo (I have one left from the Doozie that I plan on using on the way driving up to ATL)...

RE: The Games:
Will metal Spikes be permitted or not?
(I'll need to know all the agreed to rules as the softball umpire and will enforce such) but I am talking about the volleyball, horse-shoes and dominos...

The Talk:
Why is it the 68ish guys think they were the very best at everything? It's good that you are all so confident but there were those before and after that would equal or better anyone of you...
No more bragging gets my vote - I say hit or get off the pot.

Tim, we may not be the best in all you guys eyes, but we were probably the only class that were together since our elementary school days thru 12th grade .... no other class can claim that. sponsors and Sweethearts included... the 50's were special and the early 60's were also.....thanks to you all we had this opportunity and we in no way are disrespectfull to you all , but in our "hearts" the 65 -70 were guys and gals that hung together from our early beginnings and still do to this today 40 plus years later ,together......in business, in life . in sorrows...our children are connected , our visions are the same . the love we have for each other is real and what we do or not or who we are or not is not important as long as we stay in touch and together till the day we die... the 50's guys always say in the bond.... we actually mean it ......there is not one of us that would not come forward in a time of need and not help....we have a special bond that only us know the meaning....hope I answered your question......00-000

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/01/2007 05:58:37 By the 68 tish gang
Tim is not we think, is we were and are better, besides if we are not cocky then you guys won’t have anyone to beat up on. The young ones, seventies boys are very good but don’t show, the early sixties show but want everything their way, the fifties compete but are not much of a challenge. Maybe this time the other years can show the cocky 68 tish the way to go. BUT I DOUBT IT!!!!!!!

Just got back from Miami class of 57 reunion..which I was 1956...saw a couple of brothers that didnt make it to the 2003 bash and that was good. The Sonesta in the Grove sucks.

Had a couple of high lites on trip...for you Cubans in the Gables...The Las Vegas restaurant about a block from the Hyatt has the best roast pork and shredded beef I've ever tasted.

This morning I went to Tropical Park to scout the pavilion and ball field for the Sept 2 bash. I hope its one of those with the little ajoining buildings across from the ball field. I checked the ball field for grounds (dirt) to see if I needed sliding pads going into 3rd.

The top high lite was I always go to Tropical Restaurant for Dim Sum...as I was leaving this guy came up to me and said are you Terry Grant and I thought a moment and said yes. He stuck out his hand and gave me the grip and said he was Lazaro Asecio of 71...what a neat guy...we talked about 1/2 hour and I met his wife Olga and she and my Dawn had a colado together. He and I have several things in common and it was really neat to meet such a guy.

I posted on this sight a perfectly good proper message making reference to the derogatory comment made about me by someone who didnt even give their name...what happens my message is taken off and the no name stays. Mr. Kavney if that is your censorship and or your unnamed message you should clean up your act. There was no cuss words or anything just the comment that I will ignore messages that arent signed. Get some balls and take off the improper unsigned message

In my message I answered Gastonnnnn message about the relationship (commonalities)between Laz and myself.

John:
Herb has guaranteed Gaston will be the life of the party as always. Especially with his pig and flan and everything - we may have to get him blasted before the carving so he does not eat it all.

A little salsa music may be all it will take to get him to dance with Terry (due to lack of Russian dancing girls). Maybe a limbo contest later on would be good too. (How low can you go?)...

PS. The Umpire has deemed there will be no sliding into home (or any other base) during the softball to avoid injury concerns... automatic out if you slide (It may be worth the out just to see the slide and to see if you can get up after)... due to lack of response for my previous question, spikes are optional.

Herb, what kind of response so far?????????

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/17/2007 06:50:56 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Terry and Gaston, sorry for the late reply, I just got home a while ago.
As far as a response/confirmation/check, I have received 3.
I have had three invites returned due to bad addresses. The three are, Charlie Nobles,John Tighe and Kate Taylor. If any of you are in contact with them, please let them know about the event. It might be a good idea too, if Jim K. has their current info.
A special thanks to Gaston and Jim Bozek for all of there help. Gaston for the food and Jim for the invitation letters.
I know that sometimes it's easy to forget to write checks like this do to the grind of life.
If you have definately decided to come, please make an effort to get your check in sooner then later. This whole deal is going to run about $900.00 with 82 attending.
I don't think any of us want to be asking people for money at the event.
If you have decided that you won't be attending, please let me know.

I would bet that 2 of the 3 checks are from the 50's.....possibly 3 of 3...come on you guys of the 60's...you got $10...or take out a home equity loan

Just talked to Herb and we now have representations by each decade 50, 60, 70's who have sent their checks in.

I realize the brothers of the 60's and 70's are used to writing checks with alot of zero's but the check to Herb only requires 1 zero...be it $10 or $20 if bringing wife or girlfriend.

Get off your ass's

My encrytped name.. well, encrypted
.. ... Jerry

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/25/2007 09:32:25 By Frank
You are correct Brother Jerry. Gastonnnnnnnnnnn has to much class to be putting stuff like that on this site thread. Any who he has to come. Hes bringin the grits.

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/26/2007 08:46:37 By Terrence W. Grant
OK is it going to take the old man to step in here....Jerry I agree with you it doesn't sound like Gastonnnnnnn. What's amazing is these guys come under "no name" or false identity.

I've had many frat brothers in the 50's and met many more in the 60's and 70's and I'm looking forward to seeing them all. There are none that I wouldnt be honored to be in the same room with. Sure there may be some out there that dont like me for my straight from the hip opinions; but that's their problem and I hope they can sort out my sense of humor and realism. Jim K has known me for 50+ years and still hasnt figured me out. "Jim please clean up this site if you have time"

Also, you TDT on the site must realize that this site is open to everyone in the world and all they have to do is print someone else's name and post whereever they want.

Let's not ruin the Captain's party.............

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/26/2007 12:32:35 By Jim Kavney
Terry, it not an easy thing to keep message board in prefect order. Yes, there are un-named postings that should have a name attached and it's no problem for someone to post in someone name. Both of these things are in my opinion a cowardly acts, but be that as it may. If, I happen on to the thread and see an un-named posting, I'll delete it. But, it there are posting as a results of the un-named comment I would have to delete it all or delete the un-named posting and then the next few comments would not make sense.
If, I had seen Gaston posting earlier would have call him, if someone had used his name I would have deleted the posting. But, if he made it, it deserves to stand. If that the case I'm very disappointed that he would put this comment on the site. It will cause a lots of hard feelings and for what? Something that happened decades ago. We are all mature adults and should not be acting like we are going thought puberty again.
We are all Stags and "Stags Stand Tall". All of the threads on this site are made up by words. Words can make you feel like a million dollars and words can hurt and reduce you to tears. We must think before we post your words. Personal attacks, politics and religion have NO PLACE on this site. We are Brothers we don't have to like each other but we do have to respect each other. In the past four years, I have seen and taken part in many, many wonderful experiences. We have a great thing going here lets keep it on a positive tract. Lets not let this go any further, it's time we talk about the real issue of the BBQ, like what is the vegetarian menu??? I need to know!!

Jim

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/26/2007 01:19:39 By Tim Yero TDT65
BASHING NOT ALLOWED!
Jim, I agree with you - we are all in this life together and there is no room for any bad apples at this point. I'd like to think we can all share in the positive energy like that coming from Brother Herb... one of the last Stags Presidents... we should all go along and enjoy this Captain's ride at this point without any past poop (Cause that's all it is, poop)...

We are all big enough and mature enough to enjoy whatever we have left to share, regardless of anything that happened in 1929.... (otherwise, I'd still be in VietNam with Brother Jose still trying to 'win' the war - Not something I'd be happy doing). High School was a great time for some of us and better for others - that's all that matters. Now what matters is getting together every so often and shootin the sh%@#t about everyone and everything we did, or only wish we had!

As far as the veggies - there should be plenty of beans and rice (special Cuban mix), plantains, bernaise sauce (drink it straight) and I'll share a 50 gallon drum of flan with you (I can probably only eat half of it anyway.) Bring yer own corn, potatoes and greenbeans!

Terry me Bro' - Jim does not control the entries made - we all can figure for ourselves when there may be a phantom trying to spoil this wonderful method of sharing and ignore whatever there is... I think Jim does all he is able and that is more than anyone can ask.

P>S> Jim: You can forward cash for my testimony and support of your efforts to my address - my address is on the site...

LOL Tim TDT65

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/26/2007 06:02:37 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Jerry, you are right it doesn't sound like me....Frank,( whoever you are ?????) you are also right I do have a lot of class.... Terry, like you Jerry and Frank said,It doesn't sound like Gaston.I agree you do shoot from the hip. and so do I...Jim,you are also right, posting someone elses name is " cowardly" even if its done at times and I agree with you 100%, you also say that if I did make the post it should stand, but that you would be very disappointed that I would put the post on the site....I also agree that it would cause a lot of hard feelings, based on something that happened decades ago and that we should act like "ADULTS" and not like we were going thru puberty. again....you say we are all "STAGS" and "STAGS STAND TALL" and again you you say "WE ARE BROTHERS and WE SHOULD HAVE RESPECT for EACH OTHER....I do believe I have great respect for the BROTHERS,SPONSORS and SWEETHEARTS for what you all mean to me and for what STAGS always stood for in our younger days and Now.....As a may come as a surprise to you all, "I DID MAKE THE POST ".....I could give you many reasons why but those would be my personal reasons and those should not be aired at all on this site... But the one reason that I will post is the fact that BIll Quesenberry was a STAG that was BLACK BALLED by 100% vote along with Jerry Peterson and became a member of CRESENTS just a few days later with Jerry Peterson........so"NO" he is not a STAG and has "NO" place being part of any function that is associated with our "STAGS FAMILY" it would be a disrespect to those of us that" BLEED PURPLE " GASTONNNNNNNNN

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/26/2007 07:04:42 By Terrence W. Grant
Manny do you know how to cook a pig....I paid my $20 and damn it I want PIG

I have no comments on BLACKBALLING as I know one or two brothers who were blackballed after becoming a STAG and if they came to the reunion they would be captain of the team and probably help Gaston cook the pig.

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/26/2007 07:19:19 By Manny Garcia 68
Terry:

Gaston will get the pig there, so there'll be pig, he may not be there, but the pig will ( in some form) so worry not!!! you'll get to eat pig.
It will not be Herb's Bahama pig either!!! It'll be Miami pig.

Tell me how it tasted, as I have prior commitments and will not be able to attend, and yes I can cook a pig, ask Herb hi's had my pig before...Ask him about the Bahama pig?????

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/26/2007 07:55:29 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Guys the party will be a success....The pork will be good , the beans will be perfect , the yucca will be delicious and the bananas will be sweet to the palet, the roasted Chickens will melt in your mouth , the mojo will be outrageous and the flans and cuban bread will be great....so don't worry all will be fine...now Herb's sausages will prepare your appetite and move you on to the best part of the meal.. and Terry I'll make sure Dawn , gets the real Cuban Coffee...love you all .....I do have a degree in culinary arts from dade jr. college class of 1972.........00-000

Gaston:
I for one honor your preferences as a Stag; and will always do the same in consideration of the rest of the Brotherhood. I think whatever the past conflicts were that causes a problem 35 years later can always work them out one way or another.

Does this mean you are not coming to the BBQ???

If you aren't going to come I may not fully understand and/or agree as to why this is a problem at this point in our lives - but there will be other hours that we will share, hopefully.

"Bleeding Purple" has many meanings - including that of hopefully being forgiving of younger times when younger misguided mistakes were made. Hopefully we can learn and grow by those mistakes so they are not made again.

Manny, "Tell me how it tasted, as I have prior commitments and will not be able to attend".
Like I said, we can do this one of two ways. The easy way would be for you to drive to the event. Your other option is, you secured in my trunk with one of my male cats. los gatos mariposa.
I would take it as a personnal favor if you wouldn't bring up the "Bimini Pig" again. When you do, so many sensitive and deep feelings resurface.
Get your check in the mail TODAY!

Hey:
Has anyone noticed this is beginning to sound like the 'Doozie' all over again? What is it with all the extras? For Pete's sake it's a dang picnic for everyone to enjoy and thats it - nothing more, nothing less, and should be enough excuse for EVERYONE to enjoy. The more the merrier!
(More pig, flan, everything else for the rest of us if you don't show can't be that bad however)...

A LOT of effort has to be made to make this happen and no one particpating in such an honorable effort deserves any flack...

All kidding aside, we've had the last 2 months and another 2 months to make plans so there should be none of these "prior" committments (With very few exceptions of course). If you are a STAG you SHOULD be there and should have a good time with your second family.

I really can't afford it but I'm coming from 300 miles away (And I even have to bring Donna with me this time - oh well) just to see you guys again - and hopefully meet your families. There are others like me that just would like to be together for awhile and make this a wonderful time (to be assholes again for a day or so.)

SO, let's sound like and be a big happy family - that is the one thing we were and should always be (Herb: would you prefer I bring a small U-Haul?... more comfortable than a trunk and more room for storage - don't forget, it can hold several cases of CheezWiz!).

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 06/29/2007 12:21:20 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Tim, a U-Haul might be a bit too much. I think the stomach pump and Cheese Wiz will fit nicely in the back seat of your car.
If I may ask a favor...........it would be helpful if you could stop by a Wallgreens on the way down and pick up some type of Colonic device for the Cheese Wiz. It doesn't have to be expensive but must have an adequate delivery system.

I have a collection of 60's music but a limited amount of 50's and 70's music. If we can find a CD player and you have music from the 50's or 70's please let me know.

STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 07/05/2007 12:06:01 By Tim Yero
Herb: Have No Fear! Donna and I would be honored to supply the music. We'll have a 60's treat like no other!

Donna spent her entire life savings on CD's music right before the advent of MP3/Ipod technology (Story of the life of one who is not in step)..- (I spent all my $$ on the doublewide).

Having been a lifetime member of Columbia record Club (I don't know how that happened but they just kept coming every week)... Donna knows (by heart) every disco and other crap music tune ever recorded so if you don't want to listen to her try and sing Stevie Nix (after just a few Cuervo's) we do have an extensive Motown collection along with every song Madonna ever tried to sing (God help us) and even some Shakira for the Spanish dancing lovers...

Seriously, we have probably every great and not so great CD ever sold from 60's 70's, 80's, 90's and well into the 2000's (dollars that is)... (probably over 1,200 CD's) which is why I live in the doublewide and the CD's are inside in the ac...(We have lots of CD's no one else bought because they were awful but please don't tell Donna that)...

More seriously, we can also bring our CD player boom box. (It is big enough for Tropical Park with only some minor distortion)...and some very choice CD's - how about everyone logging in with their choices and I'll bring'm if I got'm -
and post the answers so we know whom is listening to what. (Just remember, music is a preference, not everyone likes the same thing so I am thinking lots of variety here)...

For Example: I have some original Jimi Hendrix when he was in 'Gypsy' for Terry Grant - I know he'd love that... Donna does not like the Cream so I can't bring that for John S. but I do have some rare Eric Clapton stuff he would like better - and also some original and great Gracie Slick who I know he loves dearly.

Anyone for "Best of the 80's Guitar Heroes"?
(hint: There were none)...(I will be selling ear plugs to defray some set up and 'shipping' cost - do I need a permit?)

LOG IN - WHAT DO YOU WANT TO HEAR??? IF WE DON'T HAVE IT - WE'LL BRING SOMETHING REALLY SIMILAR!!!
(exception... NO Opera or Showtunes for the over-the-hillers and NO Guy Lombardo or Frank Sinatra will be played)...

Tim, that would be great if you could do that. Please bring the Boom Box and the CD's.
I don't have any music from the 50's but maybe Kay,Jim or Terry might have something.
Gaston, it would be nice to have some Latin music also. If you have any CD's please bring them.
Thanks again Tim.

O.K. Captain!
Except for the 50's request and Spanee *beats I've got it covered. I really do have just about every 60's music ever recorded; the greatest hits (and not hits) of all time. We won't need the rest once 'Wooly Booly' and 'I can't get no satisfaction' takes over anyway...

* There was not much music in the 50's but left over WW2 stuff (boring and balads by slick haired queers and Elvis - Although she is younger than we are, I think Donna has some Elvis, no problemo. I also do have a CD with 'Macarena' on it but this ain't no wedding is it?...

Maybe "Limbo Rock' would be a better 60's representative anyway - REAL 60's stuff guaranteed!!! How low can you go?

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 07/09/2007 08:20:28 By Tim Yero
Gus:
No need to cross your fingers... all is well.
I played golf at a resort near Tampa called Inverness this weekend with a good friend of mine who is a member... shot 91 (ligit)... Unfortunately, my friend is the club course champion (There are 4 courses)... he would have done beter if I were not with him - he 'only' shot 75... It was a really hot day, I blamed it on that!

I know this is NOT a golf thread but I thought I would let you know that BBQ and golf seem to go together once in awhile.

As far as all the music request so far - there will be a 'smidgin' of what you are all asking for so far. Although we do have the classic Patsy Cline tune "I'm Sorry"... I think that is way too depressing for such a high pitched event - maybe after the Sun goes down and everyone is trying to make up with their ladies (after drinking heavily and making fools of themselves) I will throw it on - but for now I'd just have to say no... I'm Sorry!!!

Now Shania - that's a different story... she can't sing and her music sucks but I'll bring the album cover pictures so we can look at what a real beautiful woman looks like!! (Just kidding - I got it)...

Finally, after several cervesas, Herb sounds just like Johnny Cash (not by choice) so I will request he throws out his rendition of a "Boy Named Sue" just for Terry. (Someone pleaae bring some extra money for posting bail)!!!

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 07/10/2007 08:17:39 By Tim Yero
Janet and Gaston...
The number one rock song in 1963 was "I Can't get No Satisfaction" (even with all the new Beatles stuff that year.)
...
In most 'all time rock hits' polls, "Stairway to Heaven" (Not even a number one hit) is #1, "Free Bird" is #2 (Also never hit number 1) and then there is ... "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" at #3... nearly always...

Isn't it strange - the only real 'rock song' in the top 3 is '''satisfaction''' (Free bird is Country Rock and who knows what kind of music the Zeplin played... organized destortion is what we used to call it)... all three are magnificent musical works of true art...

PS # 4 is "Hey Jude"...my worst favorite of all Beatles songs which sold more than any other Beatles song... so goes preference...

and yes - I have them all and will try and fit them all in after several repeats of 'House of the Rising Sun' and the Doors Light My Fire"(Now THERE are some REAL great songs!!!)... Any one like CCR??? (Don't have any, just thought I'd ask!)..

Gaston, nothing new to report on the attendees, other then the numbers for Kay were wrong. She is coming by herself and donated for someone else that could not afford it themselves. What a sweetheart!
I can't recall if I mentioned this before or not, and the contributors wanted to remain anonymous. There are three alumni that can't make it and wanted to contribute $300 between them. In good conscience, I had to decline but that speaks volumes about them.
As it stands we still have time left.
Anyway it plays out, we will have a hoot!

Hey:
Let the HOUNDING BEGIN...
It could be most of our loyal Brothers are used to making 'last minute' impulsive decisions for a variety of reasons (being 'so busy' they can't think ahead?).

In this case, if you are in this 'catagory' don't plan on showing up without paying and just eating free...There can only be so much 'planning' by those involved - be respectful of all this extra effort by some wonderful Stags members.

I suggest they either confirm and pay up now. If they do show up out of the blue they will be welcome - but be advised to 'bring yer own' don't expect anything will be there for you (for those who do not plan ahead and do things right)... a little advance respect will go a long way to make this event much more fun and memorable.

B man:
You are right and I am honored that you are paying attention (and appreciate your concern)... After several recent major conferences we decided all that counts is that your name is on it -is it?

It is nice to see others checking... PLEASE CONTINUE CHECKING!

FYI All the really good names (like mine) that are saving up all the extra pennies it takes to travel for this great event... will be posted as soon as the travel plans are confirmed (for me, as of this weekend)the list will show all these great people (like me) that will be there.

How about you - are you going to be there Mr "B' whatever? Herb travels all week and is in charge -and cannot post every 5 minutes like some would like (Why someone needs to know the names anyway, I do not know - Come one come all...everyone should be there ... so who cares about names?)

Keep checking because we are saving only the best for last (did I say like me?), the more the merrier for sure. 'B' there, or 'B' square!

i agree on the labor day weekend choice. i think we could double the amount coming if held on another weekend even if it means we lose some money on the reservation. i think we could collect the reservation fee we lose. i would like to see many people come instead of the few that are showing up and if we move it and can accomplish the added attendance i think we should seriously consider it.

Just in case you never got it, Kate Taylor's new address is 100 Andalusia Avenue, #615, Coral Gables, FL 33134. We were both in the Gables Class of '62, and in JG together.

John and I are supposed to be out-of-town over the Labor Day weekend but, if not, will certainly plan on being at the BBQ on 9/2. Sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun and really good eats!!!

Re: STAGS 2007 September Bash BBQPosted at 07/25/2007 03:44:02 By Tim Yero

The thought for Labor Day was for a lot of people that would have to come from out of town to make this the big event we want it to be. The Monday Holiday would be a travel day (Labor Day)... to get back to wherever for those who work.

Having a BBQ on a 'regular' weekend without such a Holiday would be more difficult for a lot of people to make from out of town. 'Another' weekend (The next 3 day Holiday) is Thanksgiving - no chance there!...

I vote we go with what we have already planned and go with what we can get.

The decision will be made soon - like, this week...I know Herb is on-board but is not aware of the latest thoughts (has not read the latest entries). He said as soon as he gets back end of week - he will post what will happen.
Stay tuned!
