Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/25/2007 05:24:51 By Jim Kavney
OK, guys and gals now is the time to make firm plans to be at the STAGS 2008 REUNION. It will be at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables, 50 Alhambra Plaza. This is a half block west of Douglas Rd and Alhambra.

Friday night will feature Stags Open House from 8 to 12 PM. This will be outside in the beautifully lit Patio Area. This event is open to all Brothers, Sweethearts, Sponsors and all our friends from Gables. There will be no charge, but we will have a box for donations to help with hotel expenses.

There will be a Golf Tournament Saturday morning, Brother Tom Schultz '58 who headed it up at the 2003 Reunion has agreed to set it up again.

Saturday night will be a dinner dance from 8 to 12 PM, maybe even a little later like last time. This event is open to guest but they must be sponsored by a member of Stags. The cost for the Dinner and Dance will be $100 per person.

The Hyatt is a five star hotel and our charge is $105 per night, they will extend this rate for our group for two nights before and after the weekend. You can check out the hotel by going to www.coralgables.hyatt.com. You can thank the Commodore for helping me set up the hotel, I'm sure you will enjoy it. I think the costs for the weekend is very reasonable, but if there's any Stag that may be have a problem coming to the Reunion because of money, please get in touch with me and we maybe able to work something out. Your privacy is assured.

Speaking of money please don't wait until the last minute to get your money in, if you send in your money then something comes up and you can't make it, we'll be sorry you can't make it, but your money will be cheerfully refunded. The hotel is now holding a $1,500 deposit, and more will be due every two months until the reunion. So, it is necessary to have money for them on a timely basis. Plus, I'd like to get the deposit back ASAP. It's up to you to help out by acting now!
I would like to have a volunteer from each class to call other members of the class and make sure we get maximum attendance. We paid for 222 dinners at the last reunion, with your help I hope we have more dinners to pay for this time.
There is a link to a printable registration form in the left column on our website, please use it now! Thanks!

Jim

The checks in the mail tomorrow. Thanks Jim!
I get the feeling that this one will top the last one.

Jim , I know that I'am getting older...But what is the date???????

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/26/2007 10:33:07 By Terrence W. Grant
Yes Jim only Gastonnnn can afford the hotel for the whole summer...send us a date my man...

Speaking of Gastonnn...is there any chance of the DJ playing a few slow romantic songs of the 50's 60's so that I can dance real close to my Dawn...last reunion even though I paid off the DJ ($10)(Gastonnnn must have hit him with a $20) the only thing I heard was Cuban music and 1/2 my brothers showing their talents by laying on the floor.

Guys, we are getting a great rate and this should be a good one

Terry:
If I can swing it (and I know 99% I will be able to) I will volunteer to be the DJ because I do not have a band anymore...(but mainly so I do not end up on the floor with the others as I may tend to do otherwise)...

I would honor all music preferences and all will be treated equally. (I hope the Macarana is acceptable - it's the only Spanish song I have besides 2 Chakira albums, John Secada and a Jennifer Lopez)!!! I may play it once if the bribe is enough.

(Bring your rock 'n roll and disco boots.)

Terry, it's on the Home Page. Also on the printable registration form on the lefthand side of the site. July 11th & 12th 2008.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/26/2007 01:48:58 By Jim Kavney
Gaston, the idea was for people to go to the "2008 Reunion Registration Form" so you would read the form which contains the date, print it and send it with your check. Looks like Herb was smart enough to go to Step 2. It's good to know we have smart enough to go to Step 2, flying us around in those jets up there.
Besides that, I forgot to put it in.

Jim

OH, Tim your hired.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/26/2007 02:55:18 By Tim Yero
Jim:
OK - I got it - I'll be in touch with the necessary details for proper planning as we go forward.

PS I do have some 'real' experience having DJ'd before professionally a few times for private parties and some receptions. You can expect it will be done well. Being amoung friends and Brothers will make it enjoyable and fun for all.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/26/2007 03:42:27 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Jim, he doesn't work cheap. I'm sure he will demand payment in expensive Macanudo Cigars. If he falls short I will have a box of White Owls standing by.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/26/2007 05:06:51 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Tim, remember 8 tracks are no longer any good and they do sound fuzzy........Jim, hope you pay him 1964 rates......

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/26/2007 07:17:39 By Jim Kavney
Whatever we pay Tim the price will be right. I can hear the music now. My feet are dancing already. Now it takes a real DJ to do that, and tim's our man.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/26/2007 07:48:44 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Jim, when STAGS were prepering to give us a future chance to get in STAGS, at open Houses.... we heard Tim's music and we were chocked ....only kidding Tim....hope you got better with old age.

oh my god. i can't believe it. this is awesome!!
Time allready??? My check is in the mail.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/27/2007 09:04:45 By Tim Yero
8 tracks:

I never owned an 8 track when they were available and really had no time to listen anyway (I did not spend much time in a car at the time)...

I did have probably 5,000 records and albums (another reason I could not afford an 8 track) BUT there is now over 700 cd's in my collection (I have not heard them all either!)...

I do not suggest '64 rates because they were higher than today's rates for music... my band used to get $800-1200 per night (for just 4 guys for 4 hours - Groups are lucky if they get maybe $300) and DJ's were bringing in quite a bit more as well. The charges involved with a DJ is usually not for talent but for the equipment required and amount of music selection...

You will have both selection and talent (more of one than the other though!)! Regardless of whatever the amount budgeted is... Jim and I will work out whatever the details are... and no one will be dissapointed.

Got earplugs? You may need them after dinner!

El Commodore Terrence:
Please "Grant" me a little leeway not to sound crass...

I notice many of the tunes on your own special request list were the #1 song of the year the were released... The others not much past 63'.

Although your selections will fit in with the current plan I think your list would take 4 years to play!... I think we only have a few hours and I'll fit in as much as we have time for!!!

I will play some for everyone...including some 'later' tunes...

Don't feel left out and I will honor all era's of music -

I actually went to the Coral Theatre on Ponce de Leon Blvd down the street from my house in the Gables when I was probably about 13. I saw a LIVE PERFORMANCE where I remember Pat Boone sang 'Love Letters in the Sand' and Elvis Presley sing 'Don't Be Cruel' --- LIVE! It must have been 1958 or 59.

I was with my sister who was 4 years older than me (Gables grad 1960) she liked Pat Boone and did not like Elvis - I think the Endless Summer Theme was totally worn out in my house she plkayed it so much...

I kind of linked on to Booker T & The MG's, Dwayne Eddy, and The Ventures at the time - anything with a guitar I liked - even Chuck Barry and Bo Didley...these are the people who influenced and started my love for music along with Ray Charles...

I love most all music and sharing this love with all is the plan... no one likes everything but you will enjoy yourself - and so will all the ladies (the more important factor for a successful night)...

LOL Tim TDT65

Tim:

The ones with my name on it are the only ones I've mentioned...most of those songs I've never heard of...but i do like a few that i recognize

I'm not fussy at all...just want a few nice slow tunes and even they can be Latin...

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/27/2007 07:13:56 By Herb Stebbins(68)
This is in response to "Tim's Assitant DJ"
There are two of the songs on your list that are and have been favorites of mine over the years.
They are Del Shannon's "Runaway" (I caught my first Bass to this song) and Conway Twitty's "It's only make believe".
If there are any old songs that you like, you will find them on "You Tube".
They have most of them.

GREAT JOB

Jim, lets get a group from all ages ....50's you Terry, Don , Kay to go after your guys and Gals...Herb, Jackie , Janet and I from the late 60's ....Carlos , Ricky, Gibson, Steiger and Boris early 70's ....Carlos Solis , Ralph Tezanos and George Scopetta for the late 70's.....maybe my Brother Gonzalo , Smock, Carpenter and Herrera to wake up the dead from the early to mid 60's.....

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/28/2007 09:22:40 By jscopetta 68
The Gables class of 68 might have a reunion about the same time. Also the golf is a must, to provide the Bear and his sidekick Aguillar a chance to be champions again.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/28/2007 10:19:38 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
John , they were never Champions .....they only thought they were......did you notice Jim, wiped out our Golf site......we don't rate on this site.....first it was Herb's BBQ thread and now it was mine Golf one....I guess we 68 guys don't count.. ...it was another computer problem a'm sure....If you care to believe that..???????????????????????

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/29/2007 06:34:41 By Terrence W. Grant
There is only so much BS that any one site can handle...once the site gets overloaded...a BS meter is engaged and it automatically dumps the site...don't blame Jim...it's the meter

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/29/2007 07:13:38 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, thank you for the imformation....I guess this web site is going to implode at anytime .. ...

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/29/2007 02:38:53 By Jim Kavney
If the Golf Thread is gone this is the first I've hear about, I have no idea what happened. I'll call the guys that run the server and see if anything can be done. I don't delete threads although I've had people ask me to delete the old one that have no activity. I won't because they are a history of the re-birth of Stags and should stay in place. People just finding the site may read something of value to them in the old threads.

I will delete any new thread that has to do with politics, religion or any form of discrimination.

Gaston, I expect the '50's, 60's and 70's to get together and try to get a 100% turn out of their group. But, I want someone from each year to make the calls for their year. Having 4 or 5 people from each group, spells NO CONTROL to me. Guess what? No volunteers, yet.

Jim

If computers crash from BS, Terry yours must be down all the time. I think is the hackers that delete the sites because they cannot have as much fun as we do, yep that must be it. Beat Garcia today in a come from behind attack and i don't mean that literally. He did however reach a par five in two to put for eagle and end with a four. A great Day for the three golfing grats the 68 team.

Jackie:

You know the only reason you beat me today, is because the drink cart girl distracted me, I think you payed her to do so (the $20 you're to send to Herb). You're sounding like a guy I know that shot 87 a few months ago, but he never told us what he shot in the back nine!!!!

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/30/2007 06:58:01 By Jim Kavney
I received the first check for the Stags 2008 Reunion today. It was sent by Janet Eaton Sherr '68. Janet thanks for your immediate response, I appreciate it. We all needs to send in your checks ASAP, we need a strong financial basis to make this run like clock-work. I know we are a long ways away, but if you can't make to the reunion your money will be refunded. We have name tags to prepare and we can't wait until the last minute. The last reunion the name tags were a big problem, they came in without the names on them as we thought they would be already imprinted with the names. Don Humphries had to go to an office supply store and buy pens with purple ink, it was a pain in the ass and they didn't look good at all. This time no one will get in on Saturday without a name badge, that means Stags or their guess. Anyone waiting until the last minute may be writing a bigger check. I like to think Stags Stand Tall, that means taking responsibility and getting the job done. I know not everyone is able to write a check at the drop of a hat. If you can, do it, if you can do when you can.
Oh, you can see "Who's Going To Be There" by going to that link in the left column.

Jim, I read your post in responce to mine , about having groups from all the years helping to motivate and find Brothers from their years to go to the reunion....I hate to disagree with you on your comment that it " SPELLS NO CONTROL" and no volunteers... but we are as a group trying to do so......last time we did it it worked out pretty good......so if you want help let us know?????? what your rules are ......

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/31/2007 06:42:34 By Tim Yero
John:
The 2008 reunion gives all of us time to prepare for the golf which will be extremely fun (again), and to develop all the excuses we can use for playing the way we do.

For example: Good deal on beating Manny (Mr Shank)last weekend... he was "destracted by the drink cart girl" (good one; and an acceptable reason for not playing well) ... My money is on you every time you tee it up (but lots of my money went to just such a drink cart girl), so I know where Manny is coming from on that one!...

CU Guys soon at the BBQ

Jim,Herb and Gaston thanks for the invitation. I am up in North Carolina and will send Jim a check for two people. Guys have a wonderful time during the BBQ, unable to make it this time around. Got tired of retirement and will start a new job Aug. 15 working with the Flagler County School System.

Jim, I tried to make reservations at the Hyatt today online. it asks for a group number to be included in order to get the group rate. do we have the group number?

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 07/31/2007 01:08:24 By Jim Kavney
Janet, sorry for the problem booking on line. If you had called and mentioned Stags you would have received the group rate of $105. They are setting up a grouping code for us, but it will take three days. I'll post it when I receive it.

Gastonnn In 2003 we did have a problem with guys trying to get into the dinner without paying..the rules are very simple...pay well in advance or pay higher at the door. Nothing more or less. I brought up a few ideas to Jim on getting the money in faster. We will see how the flow of funds are.

Janet should have been president of Stags in 67/68 Janet is the best member we had and we loved her then and now. This is not a kiss ass statement I am being sincere.
David, I did not think you would like retirement good luck in the new job. Hey a good friend of mine just married an internal affairs Officer Saergent Mitjams tdo you know him?

Gastonn...earlier in the site you asked what the rules were and I quoted them to the best of my ability...They weren't directed at you as your the best....especially at Paying off DJ's; kicking your ball out of the rough, taking the rod from a guide when he hooks a nice fish..

Congrats Janet for being the first...speaking of BBQ's and reunions when is my special BBQ on the Peace River

Thanks Jim....that is a great convenience and brothers I stay in the hotel a lot when visiting Miami for more than 1 night.

You should probably take them up on that rate for the extra nights and give the bride a treat visiting our old stomping grounds...the hotel has everything and is convenient to everything in downtown Gables

We will have name tags this time and anyone without means they havent paid and will have to deal with me and my goons (sorry Billy & Herb can't think of a better word for you guys)lol

Don, again thank you for telling me something that I was not aware about,,, fact or no fact....by the way Terry, I never gave the DJ $20. dollars .... check with the 70's guys....Don, sorry to hear that were several guys ....again I had no knowledge and 4 years later to bring it up to me specially for whatever reason , it still means nothing to me ....Go after those that took advantage of the situation....

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 08/02/2007 07:23:59 By Terrence W. Grant
Gastonnnn the $20 was a joke...but i did give him $10 and got nothing...again you WEREN'T SINGLED OUT you asked a question on 7/30 as to what the rules were and the question was answered.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 08/02/2007 08:02:52 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, give a call sometime , we need to talk.....the rules question you all answered were fine and I thank you.....the rule question that I posted was about something totally different....00-000

This was not meant for publication. Jim and I have discussed how to correct the situation. End of discussion.

Don't POST what you don't want posted. My friend Bill W. would be appalled !

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 08/02/2007 09:45:12 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Don, its not about you and Jim....Its about all the other Brothers that feel left out by the arrogance that comes across.....thats whats causing the problem and the seperation on this site..... the two of you and some others are sitting in the dark ages ,wake up and get with it.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 08/03/2007 01:20:55 By Janet Eaton Sherr
Whoa guys. Slow down. No bickering. Should let the women run this thing and there would be none.
ONLY KIDDING. Don't need any feedback on that pun. Listen. This is happening because we are all looking for that youthful time when we had no worries and all knew and loved each other. Lets assume that's still true and go on planning this event with love in our hearts. Thanks John,
for the compliment. You guys were great to me in high school and I will never forget it.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 08/03/2007 08:17:39 By Tim Yero
Brothers and Gentlemen:
We have a whole year to go! Don't waste all the good stuff so soon! I leaning towards Janet's comment; for maybe letting the women run this! Everyone will run out of firepower too soon if it continues at this rate! Save some for later!

Without the "dark ages' there would be no Stags... I for one appreciate the foundation of our great associations with everyone from our beginning all the way to the end; and will comply with the wishes of the leadership of our early Brethren who formed the greatest outfit in our lives...

One thing I am sure will not help is not being cooperative in every way required. Let's be a little more classey! We are all in this together and everyone deserves respect at the very least.

I'm with John and Jim on this one - end of story.

PS Terry - if you slip me $10 as the DJ I'll play 2 songs for Dawn and yourself...(and donate the $10 to the Memorial Fund)... of course, you could buy me a drink too! That may be worth another 3 songs!

John, yes to your question. I know the individual. In regards to getting back to work, I got bored. The Flager County Sheriffs Office is very small along with the school system. I will be conducting internal investigations and working with the FSO.

I am looking forward to seeing many old and new faces at the reunion.

Gaston, Herb how you all doing? Like to see the old 70's group, including Pam,Jeannie, Boris, Carlos, Ralph, etc.

Janet, was your father Judge Eaton? I met him several times back in the 70's.

Terry, my wife is looking forward in meeting you. Have lots of stories to share with you.

Janet, thank you for responding back to me. I did meet your Dad inside the courtroom when I was in police work. He is a wonderful man and full of knowledge. I hope he is enjoying retirement.

Looking forward to meeting you at the BBQ and sharing stories of the guys from 68. I graduated in 71 but was not in Stags, but had many friends who were.

Take care and say hello to your Dad for me.

No, I was not a memeber of STAGS while in high school but my heart was always there. I am proud to be associated with a fine club and its members.

During the last three years I have made more new friends, Herb, Gaston, Gonzalo, Luie, Billy, Tim, Chuck, Steve, Manny, Ivan, John S., John D., Art, Larry, Terry, Jim, Jerry, Bobby and the Christman family. If I forgot any names please forgive me.

And don't forget the sweethearts and sponsers of all the years.

This, along with all the guys I knew from my days in high school. Love you all.

Thanks for making me a part of your family. I will always cherrish the thought of being a part of your family. Just like in Law Enforcement.

Maybe I can become the first in the class of 2006-07, (HA-HA).

I knew members in most all the clubs but STAGS was always the first one. Even though I was not one of them they took me around and showed me the ropes. I thank those individuals who were part of my life back then.

I credit them for making me what I am today, growing up with no parents was rough and those guys treated me like I was always family. I learned alot from them, even the fighting part which I thank them because what I learned made my job much easier.

Thats it for the musshy stuff. Can't wait to see new, old friends again.

Love David

I'm switching off the "other Doozie" site to say thanks to those that support me as an AH...Kavney was in Panama/Costa Rica for 2 months and now gone again...time is of the essence to reach out to those that dont participate on this site. To answer your question...Jim and I didnt hang out in high school as he was to busy chasing snakes and I chasing other animals...his closest "brother is Don H." another snake hunter looney. I've told Don & Jim I thought this reunion should be done by committee of 6 or 7 representing each time period. I've also said less DIAS speeches, honor our sweethearts & sponsors but dont spend 1 1/2 hours and I'm not sure of the pricing idea Friday free and Saturday $100. And last but not least some music in English...Timmy will handle that as I've already bribed him.

Again those are just my ideas...I can tell you this we got a helluve deal at the Hyatt in the Gables....screw the Biltmore and the Sheraton in the Grove a rip off.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 01/26/2008 04:53:21 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry,we have over #270 Brothers ,Sweethearts and Sponsors registered on this site.....It a must that we find ways of getting as many to join us at the reunion ...there is another # 100 missing...our goal should be to contact those we know about ,make sure we update the last imformation we have on them and do whatever we can to locate those missing....Putting our energy and time to do become more productive other than finding fault or stupid he said I said bickering.....lets put it into motion as we did back on 2003........

Terry:
Is country music considered English? Most of our parents said they could not understand anything anyone was saying on rock 'n roll songs either... so I am at a loss to know exactly what 'English' music is... (U 2 is Irish!)...

I will have a variety - some of which is not understandable by some... like just what is a 'macarana' anyway?... (not really... this ain't a wedding!)...

Maybe some Gloria Estefan and some J-Lo, Shakira and definetly some Secada mixed in for those who like to sleep during a rock n' roll fantasia...
I can't play Endless Summer and Everly Bros all the time, but will work it in - maybe you'll hang around and here it this time!

Something will be mixed in... for everyone...(Except for maybe Herb who only likes the Beach Boys!)...

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 02/06/2008 06:43:43 By Jim Kavney
Well guys it's time to turn up the volume for the Stags 2008 Reunion. July 11 &12th is still a ways away, but it will be here before you know it. A few things have happened already, but there are many thing before us. The first postcards should be in the mail within a few weeks.

I would like some volunteers to help, please call or e-mail me. Gaston has called and Terry has already come up with several excellent ideas. Of course Tim has long ago volunteered to be your DJ. Steve Bischoff said he'll help with the phones and David Steger is already working on the 70's guys.

What we need right now is up dates of addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses. Check your own information on the web site lists, make sure everything is up to date. Then check all the people close to you. Moving and changing phone, e-mail providers has taken a toll on our membership listing over the past five years. We have to find the Brothers on the missing list, take a minute and go over the lists. You may have seen or talked to someone on the list and didn't remember they were on the missing list.

It's time to register and get your money in. For this reunion there will be NO PAYING AT THE DOOR on Saturday night. We have to make up name badges in advance, so we will have to have a cut off date for registration. No one needs to be sitting at a table on Saturday night trying to check in a bunch of last minute deciders. Take responsibly and do it NOW.

Jim

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 02/07/2008 12:03:14 By David Steger
Jim, I have tried to e-mail several members of the 70's ref. the reunion with negative results.

I will mail them the info. in regards to contacting you ASAP if they are attending the reunion.

I will ask them to contact me if do not wish to attend and I will let you know.

If that does not work, I will then attempt to call them.

I hope that will work.

David

P.S. Hope all is well with you.

Obiviously in my statement above Where's Yours is directed to all and let's get this train rolling. There is NO REASON you high rolling guys can't send in a check..Here I am a poor ole guy who will be living in Texas by reunion time and presently walking around with diapers and I found $200. This is chump change (plata, dinero)to the Benz set

Terry, "Poor ole guy" ? My arse ! At least you aren't gonna be living in Mtn. City ! We have a quota on "Floridiots", and it has been met for the next millenia. However, refugees are not counted in the quota. So, "Good Luck" gettin in here and not being harassed. We count every breathing body that comes in and out of the county and try to keep the flow under control. Especially the "half-backs" (the Yanks that moved to Florida and then half-way back)need to keep truckin'. No offense. Come on through ! "Through" being the Operative Word.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 02/20/2008 08:30:58 By jack lamb
Jerry, I love ther term "Floridiots" which I had never come across before today. I did not know Tennessee was known for it's wonderful nomenclature for the "different" types from the Sunshine State. I will be sure to pass it on to those who still think Florida is the progressive place to be. Colorado has it's issues to be sure but remember every zip code has some problem that the locals are probably unaware of.
Here, we are mostly concerned with the "Californication" of the area. Maybe those people you are worried about are really just 'Floridafornication" groups. Anyway, with brother Fidel stepping down or going off into the ozone finally, maybe life in FLA will improve. Some may wish to stay or even head south. I was glad to see brother Grants name on the list of those attending the reunion. Like you said "the check must have cleared in the bank" or else you would still be on the waiting lsit. I am still undecided about attending with the possibility that I will be back in the Rockie Mountains for the summer but the buildup seems to be leading to a wonderful event with lots of subplots and who knows what can transpire. Anybody out there ever find Al Mata or Bill Harris. If those two guys show for the reunion, I can guarantee another ten who will show up just to see them in the flesh.

Its not friggin Washington .. ... Its "FRIG WASHINGTON! " I love the "Californication" slang !
Terry, you know that you can still get into Tennessee (for the time being). Soon though, you will not be able to leave the US without a "special ID". I'm glad you are free to fly around the country. Freedom is something we should not take for granted anymore.

I received my postcard "Stags Club Reunion" today. You should have or will receive yours within a day or two. Please take the time to download the registration form, fill it out and send it to me with a check.

"Who Going To Be There" is up to date. The day I receive the check, the names go up. There seem to be lots of people that say they are going to be there, but don't take the next step. I said before and I say it again. If you can't come to the reunion, you will get your money back. Delays in sending the money says a lot about you, but it says more about Stags. Don't you guys realize we get 35,000 to 40,000 visits a year on your web site. What do people think when they see that only 10 people thought enough of Stags to get behind this project and do something to help make it happen?

I said many times "STAGS STAND TALL". Well I'm wondering now. I know we did once and everyone knew it too. What happened to us? Where is the enthusiasm? We should be happy that we have the opportunity this late in life that we all will be able to get together again. We should cherish it. Think of how different our lives would be if we had not come together five years ago. Think how much ours lives have been enriched by the fact that we did.

The last reunion we had 222 dinners served on Saturday night, I expect to do the same or better. Let's all get a positive attitude and make the Stags 2008 Reunion the best. Let's not cry about the little things that sometimes frustrate us. Together we can build anything and have a great time doing it. Remember "Stags Club Is The Best"

Let make each other proud, again!! !!!

Jim

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 02/28/2008 11:30:32 By John Dannelly, 1957
For a long time I have been saying that Stags Club is good for your health. Connecting with brothers and sisters is beneficial for your emotional, mental and physical health.

I plead "guilty". In recent months I have not pushed other things aside and made an appropriate investment in maintaining contact with my friends connected through Stags.

The following is paraphrasing from an article that appeared in the Business Section of the 02.27.2008 issue of The Miami Herald...

When we get overly busy the first thing we do is reduce time for friendships. That is a mistake. New research into stress shows making time for friends, especially same gender long-time friends, can be life-enhancing--a huge stress reliever that has significant physical and emotional benefits.

So, if you needed justification for investing the time and money to attend Stags Club Reunion 2008, here it is!! IT IS GOOD FOR MY HEALTH.

Fill out the form, issue the check and mail it to Kavney.

There are some of us whom will be registrating at the Hyatt. Someone needs to get a Tee-Time on Saturday, John , Toto, Robert, George K. Thursday I go in for Rotor Cuff surgery so be prepared to be giving lots of strokes!!!!!!!

Money is on the Way!!!!!

Everyone needs to put their money where their mouth (fingers) is !!! Come on guys lets fuckin eat, Drink, and PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Donna is leaving town to Upper New York for a week vacation the week after the reunion. It is not a sure thing at this time that she will be coming with me or not to the reunion. Being the DJ will keep me rather busy and she wants to be the one to keep me busy if you understand (As the DJ I prefer to work alone)... I do not know yet for sure but will keep you posted.

Just checked with Donna and she will be with me at the reunion. I am an outsider but I have a thought that might be of some help to you. If you can not get enough alumni to participate then why don't you go to Classmates and try and steer up some interest there. You might make it a Stags and non-stags type reunion. This way you can have the reunion and off set your expenses. You could think about a multi-frat reunion. Combine a few clubs and include the girl clubs. I don't know how long something like that might take to do but the data bases are availible. Good luck to you all.

Sounds kinda like a class reunion to me. Or maybe get all the people from CGHS that have a sense or two left in their noggins and WHAM ! Gone, all at a blink of an eye ! Just winkin' here folks :>)}

Nice to see a few more on the list. I wish a few of the dudes in south fla would sell some more landscaping or mow some more lawns so they could attend. We will miss them.

It's great to see the guys of the 50's responding so well especially '56. For those guys of the 50's viewing this Chris Christman is our beloved MEL who changed his name because his x wife called him Mel.

On another front I think that horse I made reference to on another thread----died and someone stole the saddle bags with the checks....

wow I'm truly sorry you won't be there..I was looking forward to meeting you. Well I didnt ride in on a pony express horse....if I had that would be messing (stolen) with federal property and if caught 3 to 5 in club fed...

Well, the checks are starting to come in and it about time, so I want to thank you that sent them.

Some of those checks came as a result of hard work by a few Brothers and the results are interesting. At this moment we have 7 Brothers that have volunteered to call members of their class. Here they are!

Harry McCabe 1954
Ray Thaler 1955
Terry Grant 1956
John Dannelly 1957
Billy Adams 1966
Herb Stebbins 1968
David Steger 1973

We have a leader in the classes as far as checks received.

1956 -- --- 3
1957 -- --- 2
1958 -- --- 2
1968 -- --- 2

Other classes have just 1 so far, but that will change soon. Congrads to Terry he's our leader!! !!!

Get involed now send your check and volunteer to call all the members of your class. You can call other but your responablity will be your own class. Just call or e-mail me and lets all get to work.

Jim

Jim, I spoke with Dennis Fantis class of 73 he will be coming and I advised him to download the form.

Thanks for thinking of me as a STAGS Brother but I don't want to get anyone upset. I was NOT in STAGS, and graduated in 71. I am friends with alot of brothers from 70-73.

Thanks

David

P.S. I will keep trying to make contact with them and remind them.

Jim already posted the info regarding any difficulty in attending due to lack of finances and/or whatever reasons on the main page showing the reunion info. Email him directly and in strict confidence. We all should be together regardless of individual and personal situations once again.

Where there is a will, there will be a way. We should all pull together in making this a memorable event (QUICKLY) as there may not be that many more possible. No one will regret the extra effort it may take to get a great attendance but may regret they did not come due to something that may be overcome.

A thought to follow up on the expence of attending the reunion. It would be a nice gesture if some of the guys or girls that live in the South Florida offer a room for a night or two in your house. This would help cut the expence down and make the reunion more meaning full to both parties. Just a Thought!! !!!

I've got more allegiance in my pinky then you could ever imagine. Jerry just a quick thought here. You might be in over your head. More challenges here will only provoke me. If you want to get ugly I welcome you. The best defense is the truth tainted with honor.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 03/13/2008 08:09:43 By Jerry '65
Being with you sounds like an UGLY place to be. I'm more into soft allegiance, and honesty about who is posting whatever. In over my head ?, sounds like a threat (or challenge) from somone with whom I should have no squabble, if he is a Brother. "I've got more allegiance in my pinky then you could ever imagine." Quote from the offended. The word after "pinky" should be "than".
Maybe you did go to CGHS after all. I just want folks to post their names !

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 03/14/2008 07:01:45 By Tim Yero
Dear 'creepy'... if this is a war of words you have selected the wrong venue. This site is for brothers to communicate, not for cowards. Bring it on and send me a personal email... I'll honor whatever cahones you apparently do not have if you want to be anonymous but don't plan on not being totally slammed and admonished.

All of us 'real' Stags post entries with who we are. You are evidently 'no one' and will be treated as such. By being 'no one', you are not that good to begin with and deserve '0' attention on this site.

If you were really a pissed off Stag, you'd say so, say why, and face the music. We do not run and hide.

My email address is conveniently listed if you know where to look.

Have a wonderful day.

Creepy looking brighter:
I forgot to mention we have tracking mechansims built into this site that will locate any posting.
You are probably not smart enough to know that any entry on an internet web site can be determined... you may or may not expect a call from one of us shortly so we can address an alternate solution to your problem.

I'd highly suggest you not use this site to air such b.s. anytime in the future (meaning as of now) as there can be rather severe consequences for doing so.

once again<
Have a wonderful day...

I just noticed that my friend, brother, mentor Scrapper Smith has just sent in his check. Ralph was instrumental in the changing of TDT to STAGS so that the fraternity was able to continue thru the 70's. Each of you should take a little time out and remember how much STAGS meant to you while in high school and at that moment you might want to go to the reunion and thank Scrapper and some of the other old timers.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 04/22/2008 10:31:21 By Terrence W. Grant
Basically we were under alot of pressure from not only Gables School but the whole school system to throw our ass's out of school because we were in an illegal fraternity. Through Scrappers dad and his connections with the Elks Club, we were able to convince the Elks to sponsor us as a "CLUB" instead of a fraternity. We were still on the fringe but legally nothing could be done with us.

There was another club Phi Delta's that became Gentry and they even had their composite in the Gables 1956 yearbook. We didnt go that far nor did we want to.

I dont know who sponsored Chinks nor will I make any great effort to find out as it's probably on their site and I dont go into that area.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 04/22/2008 12:41:47 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Terry, after a fight on school property, myself along with Kris Kimel and two members of Counts were called into Mr. Cowart's (maybe Coward) Office. We were told that they had a list of all the members of both Clubs. He said unless we disbanded, he would be forced into expelling all of us from the Florida School System.
To the best of my knowledge we all graduated.
I made a point of giving the Stags Grip to a few of our members in front of the faculty following the graduation festivities. I think it pissed them off, also that I was wearing my Stags Pin when I recieved my diploma.
What's that old saying "If you can't take a joke then .... .."

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 04/22/2008 02:30:39 By Tim Yero
Stags was in jeopardy many times over the course of it's history (I know Coach Kotys saved our butts more than once - probably a good idea on his part as he would not have had much of a team without all of the Stags who were stars through the years).

It is so great to know we survived through it all with all the fortitude that some of the members had, like the guys above... I bet they were not even thinking about us still being together (and having a reunion) in 2008... most could not dream nor count that far in advance - I know I couldn't either!

Thanks to you guys for making all the memories possible.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 04/23/2008 10:50:33 By John Dannelly 1957
In response to Tim Yero's 04/22 post on this thread (What did Scrapper Smith do to allow TDT to survive as Stags Club?").

As it was told to me...
Scrapper was boxing in a program sponsored by the South Miami Elks. He enlisted the support of South Miami Elks to sponser TDT and the name was changed to Stags Club.

South Miami Elks were very trusting of the Club. In my years in Stags I never saw or talked to a representative of the Elks. To my knowledge Stags Club never submitted a report to the Elks. Elks kept us "barely legal" and the Club, during my years, never had a significant public or school relations problem resulting from inappropriate behavior.

To this day, about 54 years later, South Miami Elks is a strong supporter of youth programs. My Boy Scout Troop (T457 Miami) provides support for South Miami Elks on Flag Day and the Elks provide encouragement and recognition for scouts seeking the Eagle Scout Rank.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 04/24/2008 07:58:00 By Tim Yero
Thanks John... goes to show the dedication of our wonderful brothers like Scrapper... this had long term results - not even comparable to any others... the very survival of the Club. It happened more than once during the foloowing years but being the first means a lot (nothing at all would exist if he had not gotten involved as he did)...

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 04/24/2008 05:08:01 By Terrence W. Grant
Elk's supportive!!!!!! if you look at the pictures of TDT Alumni Association 1958 alot of those pictures were taken at the Elks Club. Where else could we have parties like we did considering our age. Many of us later joined that Club. I've been a member since the 60's but demited a few years ago over to this coast.

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 04/24/2008 09:56:11 By John Dannelly 1957
Sorry Terry. I heard about those parties I missed beginning in 1958. I didn't realize they were at the Elk's Club. While you guys were having a party here in the states I was in Europe protecting your butts! Not really, my service time was more like civilian life than military. I had a great time stationed with USAF Security Service (communications intelligence) in a lot of countries. The most difficult adjustment was getting used to the more liberal sexual attitudes in Europe compared to the U.S. The first six months I was in Germany I was way overactive and constantly sleep deprived.

I'm not trying to start trouble but I don't understand why the south Fla clan won't send in their money. Can any of you explain that to me. Don't these guys care for the club and what pressure it is putting on Jim? If this fails it will all fail. What do you all think?

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 05/20/2008 07:38:41 By just a friend
who is Kathy???????? why do you care???????????............it will happen ....relax and post your name next time .....if you want to be recognised on this site ...if not STAY OFF......

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 05/21/2008 06:47:42 By Terrence W. Grant
The old chief can't resist this one...Just a friend...as posted is telling someone else to post their real name or stay off the site. Just a friend you abide by the same rules....as for Kathy's comments, I made the same comments on my post Doozie posting of a few days ago. My comments had nothing to do with Jim but had to do with the South Florida guys who won't get off their ass's. True if the reunion isn't a success you can kiss this site goodbye. Not a threat but reality. I would suggest that you read the Doozie sight and to see how much fun everyone had and I drove hundreds of miles and dont even play golf

Re: Stags 2008 ReunionPosted at 05/21/2008 10:53:26 By Ken
Kathy, you are right my take on the local guys is that they don't give a damm about our club and keeping the tradition alive. Just look to the north and see how great the doozie took place. Now, not all our brothers have that love for the club like

Herb,Billy,Manny,John,SUPERMAN,Tim,Gaston

and the non brothers they all have the love for their old friends. I have always been straight up with everybody, Jim is out there with some great expense, to give you the pleasure to have old memories returned to your hearts. If you want to kill this bond stay quiet and do nothing.

Thats all i have to say about this.

Much love to all

Forrest!

TO ALL my STAGS Brothers:

This year our 2008 Stags Reunion will have something for everyone, regardless of their class year. Friday is on your own day - play golf, play cards, play in your room - but play! Later on that evening join everyone; meet and greet each other - catch up on some old times, setting the stage for what should be a wonderful Saturday evening with all your old STAGS Brothers, friends and family.

Saturday, rest by the pool and prepare for an evening to remember forever. A great dinner, great memories, music with a WIDE VARIETY of tunes you will love once again (and may not have listened to in years).

Watch the highly customized projected slide show while you go about your evening (prepared especially for our STAGS Reunion by yours truly). 3 hours + of every event yo
