swim team class of 58Posted at 02/29/2008 04:48:05 By Art Paterson
Anyone out there from the swim team?

Art, I remember some of the swim team that were Stags in that time frame. Dave Whitfield, Jim Fitzgibbon and Keith Jobson.
Art, I hope you are going to be able to make it to the Stags Reunion. I know it's a long way from Colorado, but I promise it will be worth it. We all had a ball in 2003 and this time will be better.

Jim

Art...I (while in high school) used to drink beer with Coach Burrell at Duffy's...Does that count? I also used to lust for Gail Dio...does that count?

MY MOTHER EVELYN CLEIN, USED TO TALK ABOUT YOU BECAUSE OF THE TRIPS WE TOOK IN THE SUMMER, SHE USED TO SAY, IF ART AND FITZ ARE IN STAGS YOU'L NEVER BE IN THE CLUB. Bob:

I dont know you but I sure want to meet you. Damn it make it a point to at least show up Friday night July 11 at the reunion. I couldnt remeber the name of the girl Burrell was ...... and you mentioned her. If you read some of my crap on other sites you will see where I used to drink beer with him at Duffy's and he was my history teacher. The Jobson brothers usually show up so you'll see them also.

TERRY, GAIL DIOGUARDI [SPELLING MAY BE OFF] LIVED IN MY AREA AND WE WOULD PICK HER ON THE WAY TO PRACTICE, SHE WOULD HAVE TO POINT HER TITS OUT THE WINDOW BECAUSE THEY WERE TO BIG TO FIT IN THE OLD CHEVY MY DAD DROVE. THE JOBSON BROTHERS ARE ANOTHER STORE, I FIRST SWAM AGAINT LANCE THE 3RD YOUNGEST IN 1954, THEY LIVED IN ST PETE AT THE TIME. DON WAS THE BEST SWIMMER IN THE FAMILY, THEY WERE ALL GREAT AT GETTING IN TROUBLE. I STILL LIVE IN MIAMI AND HAVE STORES ABOUT ALL THE GUYS IN STAGS THAT USED TO SWIM.I'M NOT SURE ABOUT GOING TO THE REUNION AT THIS TIME, BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO TALK OR MEET, IT WOULD BE OK WITH ME, BOB

Bob: I note some hesitancy in coming to the reunion...if it is something you'd like to discuss with me please give me a hollar on my phone or e mail me personally...if there is a problem...I will handle it or get it handled quickly. There is NO REASON that all Miami brothers cant show up on Friday night

Gail...in my class and a great gal...i mean A+.and that dark italian skin tone!!!!..she had a problem with one of our other since deceased brothers Del Moore (honorary member last sememster of school). This was many years after graduation. Word had it that he tried to kill her in an alcohol rage...did some time then did more time for this or that. Then I heard died of booze.

Hey Art you graduated in '59 not '58.

If I remember correctly, the Jobson’s moved to Miami so that Don, could swim for Burrell. Keith and Lance followed in Don’s footsteps. I believe Don was in Gentry. Burrell divorced his wife and married Joyce Argo. Quite a scandal in those days. Burrell died of a heart attack. Not a big surprise. I can remember him screaming at us during swim practice, veins sticking out in his neck, face all red, and his blood pressure through the roof.

Gail DioGuardi swam backstroke. It was the only way she could get any speed in the water with that chest. She was a knockout. She made all of those hours in Venetian Pool worth it for us horney young teenage boys. That tank suite didn’t leave a whole lot to the imagination. I can still see her gliding through the pool with the only thing sticking out of the water …… Well you get the picture.

FORWARDED FROM JACK LAMB:

Jim,

I am not sure which thread this information needs to go on so I will give it to you and see what you think. We had some really bad storms this past week here in Northern Colorado and one (tornado) hit directly in Windsor, CO. which is where Art Paterson resides. I emailed him and got some information that I would like to pass on. He and his family seem to have gotten through it fine but he indicated he lost two businesses. A day care center that had about 180 children in it was the center of many stories out of this area belonged to him as well as a storage center that was 90% destroyed. The kids were all fine with a few cuts and bruises. He is very positive about the rebuilding stating that is retirement is on hold and the rebuilding is going to be full time. I am sure he could use some encouraging words especially from old friends and classmates. We had been trying to get together to discuss the Gables Days but I imagine that is on hold with all he has to do now.

Glad to see a few more names added to the reunion list. Miami guys are notorious for being late comers. Maybe it has to do with the current dominating culture. Looking forward to hearing all about it and seeing the pics on the site. You do a great job that many of us take for granted each and every day. I look at the site almost daily and love to hear from everyone who is involved. Keep up the terrific job!!
