Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/06/2003 05:56:32 By Jim Kavney
OK, guys and girls time to start planning some fun times for 2004.

First things first, which is a Ski Trip to Salt Lake City to ski at "The Canyons" in Park City, Utah. My son and I skied The Canyons two years ago and it was great. This year we will be staying in Salt Lake City at the Sheraton and have a rental car for transportation. You could stay there with us or find a place of your own in Salt Lake or Park City. The main thing is meet some where and ski together and have a good time. We will be there five nights and ski four days, you may only want to ski a couple of days or maybe for a week. We will keep the whole thing flexible that way everyone can have as much or as little as they want. Ever if you never skied before it's not to late learn, a few day in ski school and the next thing you know you'll be on top of the mountain. Once you do it you'll want to do it again. Take a look!
www.thecanyons.com

We have a lots of people talking about fishing and all the big ones they caught. Well, now the time to show your skills and prove it. Think about this, a fishing trip to Belize with a bunch of Stag Brothers. This is the time to put your money where your mouth is. This trip will be in June 2004, no exact date yet. I spoke to the owner today and it we get a decent size group we can get a discount and maybe an extra or two. This is a 4 full days fishing with 6 nights lodging, one day free for touring. The price is $1,098 with 2 people per boat and room or $889 with three people per boat and room. Add to this approx. $20 daily for food. Airfare will be around $400 to $450 from Miami. This is not cheap but after looking at approx. 20 other fishing places in Belize this seems to be the best and we could do a little better with a big enough group. The fishing in the rivers is great for snook, tarpon, jack, cubera snapper. The flats hold a lot of bonefish and permit. The reefs are only seven miles out and who knows what you might get out there. Check this out: www.actionbelize.com

If you have any interest in either of these trip please call or e-mail me ASAP. Once I have an idea of who is interested I'll be able to fine tune the plans and see if can save a little money here and there. I don't expect a commitment right off the bat but if it's a maybe let me know.

Jim, come up with a real figure for the whole package .....Maybe we can get Scopetta to lend us his Jet plane and Herb fly us down.......

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/07/2003 09:49:41 By Don H.
Looks like simple math to me:
Fishing/lodging $1098
Airfare

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/07/2003 09:53:13 By Don H.
Double clutch, sorry about that:
Fishing/lodging $1098
Airfare $450
Meals $120
Misc. $ 150
Total $1818 +/-
What kind of insurance does John carry?

Don , Math was not my best subject.. ...Glad to see yours was.. ...

Fran and I won't be able to make the ski trip cause I've got stock to feed in the winter. However if any one wants to make a side trip after skiing with Jim your more than welcome here in Idaho. We've got skiing, snowmobiling and horses. Ask Yvonne Downing if you can have a good time in Idaho. She and a friend were guest at Hidden Creek shortly after the reunion. Semper Fi Fran and Sarge

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/10/2003 04:16:14 By Terrence W. Grant
As a few of you know I've done the actionbelize package and had a great time..three to a boat is good and the guides are great. the hotel they use is like an old holiday inn with a pool. In the morning you get breakfast and pick up a box lunch...dinner they cook your catch and you pay $6 for salad pot and des and drink. The airline is TACA and is a FIRST CLASS carrier. I think the rate for the airline is lower than quoted but could be wrong. Also the town has a few good eating places but remember this is 5th world country.....fishing is unbelievable both river (snook & tarpon) and outside everything. I'm in JUne 1 thru 20th) but I need a single room and will pay the difference. Also, local med school houses all their med students at the hotel...mostly females from US that couldnt get into US schools...of course these are young ladies and dont need any of you hounds disturbing their studies.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/12/2003 05:43:31 By Terrence W. Grant
If Gaston signs up for fishing I want him on my boat so I can keep an eye on him and his actual catches...so many snook you can reach over and scoop up with a net (which I'm sure he will take advantage of)...by the way these guides have been taking people out for 25-30 years...and for those interested and didnt know Belize used to be called British Honduras so english is the common language and that Belize has the second largest Reef in the world

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/19/2003 09:24:15 By Don H.
How many of youse guys are signing up for Belize? This should be a great trip.
dh

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/19/2003 12:00:35 By Terrence W. Grant
Terry G. will be going...but I get the first opportunity to fish with Gaston...I want to teach him what fishing is...not standing in the back of the boat while guide hooks you up and then hands you the pole after you finish your beer.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/19/2003 03:14:05 By Don H.
Think I'm going to fish by myself. How much extra does that cost? <*))))><
:-)

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/19/2003 07:20:48 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, I hope that I can make the fishing trip, I can't wait to have the honor to have an old timer like you show me the ropes (I Mean Fishing) you are one guy that I could without a doubt look forward to team up with and kick some ass. After all I have the smallest Dolphin on record and you have (what was it ?????) a red ,snook and bull shark . You and I can only do better anyways ......

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/19/2003 07:56:32 By Terrence W. Grant
Guys... i fished three to a boat plus guide and had a good time boats about 20 ft plus. never had a problem of getting in the way...that brings it to $889 + air and thats a good deal..but it is also 3 to a room

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/19/2003 09:09:55 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, I don't care how many to a room . But I'm sleeping in a bed.... Not the floor or the sofa.....

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/20/2003 12:23:20 By Terrence W. Grant
OK youseeeeeeee guys, for months I hear alot about fishing prowess and we only got three studs at flamingo...Belize is a great spot and if you.....'s can't get away without the bride they can go to the Mayan ruins or take river rides or go to the reef.

Jim has developed a good package and by the way Taca operates out of Hou and New Orleans as well.
Gaston you will have a bed dude but I fear you will not be able to get up at 5:30am to fish.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/20/2003 01:43:29 By Jim Kavney
Gaston, if any body has to sleep on the floor, remember seniority prevails. So you better make sure someone on the trip is younger then you. Start looking because the floors down there are extra hard.
Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/20/2003 05:53:52 By Don H.
I have a sleeping bag for some of the junior brothers,...if they don't mind the pitter patter of little feet across their faces at night.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/20/2003 06:05:10 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Dear OLDER Brothers, don't penalize us for having grown up with a/c ,carpets and Televisions. But I'm quite sure that we can adapt to any situation.......

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/20/2003 06:50:31 By Terrence W. Grant
Gaston........no television in rooms in belize (at least not a few years ago)..Just fish and swim and smoke a good cigar by the pool and of course watch the female med students frolic in the pool. Perhaps even you could visit one of the local pubs but dont call me to come get you.

Call Billie if you can convince him to come fishing with us.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/21/2003 08:24:21 By Terrence W. Grant
Gaston...I must apologize as I was looking back at old Stags pictures and you really caught some nice fish when you were younger. With talent like yours how about spoting me a few fish..or lending me a snook for dinner. With Jim's approval I'm going to donate one or 2 trophies for largest Tarpon(brought to side of boat) and Snook caught. I bet you would cherish having such a trophy in your collection. Got to think what to name the trophies.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/21/2003 11:21:09 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, I would love to spot you some fish , but the place that I use to go buy them at closed down a few years ago.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/22/2003 06:23:42 By Jim Kavney
Terry, what do you mean with my approval? It's a super great idea, go with it. I'll even help you with the wording for the trophy. I think you should call the trophy.
"Stags Club Fishing Tournament 2004"
and the inscription should read
"This trophy is presented to Brother Jim Kavney for the Largest SNOOK caught in Belize"
Terry, please make sure you spell Kavney with a "K" not a "C". The tarpon trophy you can figure out but the snook's mine.

Jim Kavney

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/23/2003 11:00:27 By Don H.
Now we all know that a tarpon is much harder to land than a snook, so my tarpon trophy should be bigger than Jim's snook trophy. And, there are more letters in my name so I will need a bigger trophy than Kavney with a "K"......

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/23/2003 11:01:37 By Terrence W. Grant
The trophy will probably be called "On behalf of Stags Club -The Terry Grant Annual Game Fishing Trophy (Snook)" same for Tarpon...This makes it easy as the engraver already has my name to use 2 more times... For the younger guys we will have one for the most catfish and grunts caught.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 12:20:14 By john scopetta
I would like to sign up for the Belize trip, I really think it would be a great experience learning how the pro's from the fifty's due it. I grew up on Key Biscayne and worked on the charter boat Doc's Out as a part time mate. So most of my experience has been fishing outside in the open ocean. But I know some of our Brothers from the late sixties are excellent fishermen in the snook and tarpon categories. I myself have only caught one tarpon in my life and that was with a spear gun over at Mr. Grant's Island before it was Fisher.
Belize has excellent fishing and I am sure the accommodations have improved greatly since I was last there fifteen years past. At that time they still had open suers in Belize City and it was not a good place to vacation. The reef fishing must be incredible and the diving is out of this world so I say," let's get a good group together because it will be a great time."

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 12:38:35 By Terrence W. Grant
John: You bring some real CLASS TO THE TABLE and it's neat that we have a professional from the younger set....open sewers some on the river thru the city ( iwas there 3 years ago)...but fishing is done miles from there.....second largest reef in the world and scuba is good...tell Jim directly your interested...i think we have at least a dozen with interest so far...i would like to fish a day with you as we are going to rotate.. for two reasons:1) share some Latin America stories 2)get out of the rut of having to listen to Don H. and Jim K with their BS fishing stories. Get your buddies Herb Gaston and Art to go...cant think of a better group to sit around the pool at night and smoke a cigar and BS unless of course it's a Female med student

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 02:24:33 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, I see you are getting worried now that you begin to see the younger kids getting involved . We are not fooled by you telling John about class....... Face it we are going to wip your butt, while having a drink and smoking one of Herbs best cigar. Just give us the trophy's now .........

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 02:53:53 By Don H.
T-
We only fished together for one day. I hardly got started with my fishing stories. Do I sense that these yougsters want to have divisions by age group so that they will have a chance at the trophies?
John, shame on you for spearing a tarpon. We'll have to have the tarpon ritual to cleanse your soul-ten shots of scotch with a beer chaser, all within 30 minutes!
Let's go to Belze!

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 03:52:55 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Jim, the earliest I could make a commitment to the fishing trip would be May 1, if you intend on leaving in June. Would this be too late?
Herb

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 04:44:02 By Terrence W. Grant
Don H....good observation about John spearing a tarpon...what kind of stuff is that? Last fish I saw speared was for my dinner at the Tippa Toppa restaurant in Managua..hope Ivan reads this as it may bring back memories. Herb..Jim I'm sure will find a way for you to work your trip biding in...a fishing trip in Belize without Stebbins is boring and uneventful..by the way guys there are some cigar stores (import) right near the hotel but seem expensive

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 04:54:23 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Guys I called TACA twice, just to make sure. (1-800-535-8780). They will not be flying to Belize in the month of June. I called American and gave them a wag and said I would be leaving on June 1st and returning June 6th. They said they could accommodate 9 people going on June 1st, but could not guarentee the return for 9 on June 6th. They have one non-stop a day in both directions (737-not alot of overcapacity). The departure out of Miami leaves at 11:20 am and the return is a 1:38pm departure.
There maybe other carriers that fly to Belize, I don't know. Americans fair if you were to purchase today is $724.00 round trip plus airport fees and charges. Those charges will be between $40-$100 round trip. I'm sure a group rate would reduce the fare. American reservations is 1-800-433-7300.
Herb

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 05:01:28 By Terrence W. Grant
Guys:

I think Jim should contact Actionbelize and find out what they do in June for their other fishermen and have his son look into group rates..I know for a fact that they used to have a group rate that was cheap..after finding out what their deal is then we can compare...this could be a serious problem as I know there will be more than 9 guys going.........jim if you have any updates please share them...the $700+ fare is high as far as i'm concerned

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 05:28:55 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Terry, not that it should be a factor but if we travel as a group on a US carrier and I can purchase a refundable ticket, I will try to get the cockpit jump seat. If I do we can take my round trip fare and divide it up amongst the group. This might save everyone about 80-90 bucks depending on how many guys go.
Just a thought.
Glad you made it back in one piece.
If you ever need directions on how to go back and forth to MIA, just ask me. After 12 round-trips I think I have it down pat. What a ZOO!
Have a Great X-Mas!
Herb

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/24/2003 09:36:49 By john scopetta
If you take notice, the time line on my spearing the tarpon would make it sometime around 1963 or four I swam across from the dump after riding my bike there with a couple of friends. The tarpon was about five pounds and would rival the snook that is in one of the pictures taken recently on a trip down to Flamingo by some of the fifties brothers. The baby tarpon would swim in the mangroves in about 6 feet of water and yes we would shot anything that would swim except a manatee or a porpoise. The mangrove snapper were sometimes a couple of pounds and the lobster were everywhere. We would also eat everything we caught including the tarpon and bonefish if you were lucky enough to find one digging for crabs and could blast him with your four band Arbellete. Belieze here we come.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/25/2003 07:43:32 By Jim Kavney
OK, I know the airfare to Belize is expensive, just ask American Airlines. So, as an alternative I propose that we rent two motor homes, equip them with a keg of beer each, leave a week early. I just printed a map from Yahoo, all we have to do is leave Miami, head over to the West coast catch 75 North, then 10 West into Texas, then South into Mexico, then head back to the East into Guatemala, stay East for a day and we will be in Belize. We should made it in six and a half days, if we diver 24 hours a day and only stop for gas and to refill our kegs. We can get Terry to spring for another trophy and race all the way the 50's guys against the 60's guys. You sixty guys will be seeing our tail pipes all the way!
<* ))))><
But, I realize the about plan may be a taxing on some of you younger guys. So, let not worry about the airfares, my son is working through a wholesaler and we should be able to get the approx. fare I quoted in the beginning of this thread $400 to $450. The wholesaler won't make their purchases until the middle of January then we will know for sure, right not I'm only 95% sure, if we can't get it we've still got Plan B (above).
<* ))))><
I've been talking with the appropriate amount of whinnying to the guy who handles the bookings. I was able to get a better price, I got him to give us the 2003 prices instead of 2004 which had an increase.
6 day, 5 night (standard room) 4 day fishing package.
Double Occ. (2 in a room and boat) $ 998 per person
Triple Occ. (3 in a room and boat) $ 789 per person
<* ))))><
(Deluxe private room add $250.)
<* ))))><
The above package includes necessary ground transportation (including airport transfers), fishing equipment, fishing license, taxes, boat, guides and ice on the boat. Fisherman may have the option of fishing the river, reef or flats on any given day.
The package DoesNot include food, drinks, tips and lost tackle.
<* ))))><
Estimated food expense: Continental breakfast and box lunch on the boat is $10 per day per person. The best deal for the evening meal at the hotel is to let the chef prepare your catch of the day and serve it to you with potato, salad and vegetable for $7.50. If you don't catch a fish its a $5 cab ride to downtown to find a restaurant or eat from the menu at the hotel.
<* ))))><
The above price is based on at least 10 to 15 of us going.
<* ))))><
Sometime in January I'll be looking for deposits. The date for the trip is June 15th departure and June 20th return. This can be moved a couple of days one way or the other if you have a problem but let me know ASAP.

<* ))))><

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/25/2003 10:56:23 By Terrence W. Grant
Jim:

You have out done yourself again...that is a fantastic deal...follow up on getting enough seats on the flights during that period as TACA not flying....I'M IN

Guys where can you get 4 whole days of fishing for $750..in the Keys it's $600 a day to pull your pud and then hit a school of Dolphin for 1/2 hour........take my word this is fishing and very scenic..visit the site www.actionbelize.com but dont do anything seperately with action..let it go thru Stags and Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/25/2003 11:02:00 By Terrence W. Grant
Jim: Those dates are fine with me as I have to be back no later than 21 JUne...if you don't catch a fish I will supply or buy you dinner. The reason for the lost tackle possible charge is that Gaston and his group are used to the mate wearing the fish out and thus the rod and reel are safe from being yanked into the water by a tired fish.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/26/2003 00:28:39 By john scopetta
I also agree with Terry that the pricing is very good. I think the trip will be super, the only suggestion I have is that if you plan to eat your catch don't go fish in the river and there was a saying in the old days that if you go Taca you never come backa I hope the service has improved with time.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/26/2003 07:32:01 By Terrence W. Grant
John:

We dont fish in the city river...we fish miles away in little river areas and then at sea...when I went there a few years ago the Jets were first class as well as the service on TACA...it looks like we will be flying American anyway

As far as worrying about eating your dinner; you should probably bring some loose change as the only "Whopper" you younger guys will see will be a BK Whopper.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/26/2003 09:45:17 By john scopetta
I guess if the pilots get on the plane we don't have to worry and if Jim eats the fish we can all eat it. I use to have a good acquaintance in Belize by the name of Barry Bowen or 007 as we would to call him because he crashed his private plane and had to have recustructive surgery on his face and had the doctor make him look like a combination of James Bond,( Roger Moore ) and Richard Branson from Virgin fame. He is a true adventurer and owned Belican Beer and the Coke bottling company in the country. Anybody know Barry???

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/26/2003 11:07:49 By Don H.
T-
We have to have some rules for these trophies., e.g. line test. We don't want to give one away when some amatuer lands a big snook on 20# test and live bait and one of us semi-professionals lands a similar one on 8# test and a plug. What do you think? Us old timers need to get a lead on the guides, hee, hee.
Wish we were leaving tomorrow. Looking forward to reuniting with everyone. What does it look like so far-Jim, you, me, John S., Gaston, Herb, Leidy, Tony Cook, who else?
In the Bonds
dh

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 12/26/2003 04:52:53 By Terrence W. Grant
Don when I went there all fishing was done with different type plugs etc...cant remember the name but the tarpon lure was about 7 inches

Hector is the best guide by the way the guides pick you up at the hotel around 5 30am in a van and take you to the Action dock area..if i remember correctly we fished till 3 or 4pm and then they clean the fish

I've got some pictures somewhere of my last trip i will start to look for them

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/06/2004 11:07:27 By Jim Kavney
Just a little up date on the trip, so I talked to or had e-mail from the following Brothers show a high level of interest in the Stags Belize Trip:

Don Humphries
Tony Cook
Dennis Kennedy
Keno McNeil
Bob Leidy
John Scopetta
Gaston Ruiz
Terry Grant
HerbStebbins

I'm sure there is more out there that would like to go, so let me know. So, far I see little competion in this group for my Snook Trophy.

Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/06/2004 07:06:54 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Jim, this is looking like a 50's late 60's& 70's deal..... We need to get Bishoff and Helmly involved.....to pair up with Dennis and that way all three decades will be present.....

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/06/2004 11:13:14 By Terrence W. Grant
Where are all the fisherman Ivan, Billy and so on....Yep Jim I might as well give the trophy to you now...as I dont see any fisherman listed except for maybe Leidy and his frigging ASCOT that he wears around his circuit in Palm Beach. If I had his money I'd treat us all to a good cigar around the hotel pool.

Jim get cash from Leidy...don't take a check!!!!

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/08/2004 06:23:18 By Jim Kavney
Terry, if Leidy come on this trip wearing an ASCOT he'll get the red ass so bad from the guys, he'll think he's pledging all over again.
Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/09/2004 12:40:04 By Don H
Now how can you guys even consider Jim taking the trophy when on our trip he only caught one lady fish.
dh

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/09/2004 04:40:15 By Terrence W. Grant
Don, give him a little credit he did unhook the mammoth shark I caught

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/09/2004 06:13:00 By Jim Kavney
Don, it's always ladies first!

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/09/2004 07:02:03 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
I read a lot of disagreement between you guys......I think the younger guys may have and advantage ... since we think and act as a total unit of strength......and we have our S... together...

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/09/2004 07:52:24 By Terrence W. Grant
I agree you have your S together so much so that if given an enema could bury you guys in a match box

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/09/2004 08:54:10 By Don H
Go Terry, Go!

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/09/2004 09:14:08 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, only time will tell..........Shit flows down hill and I do believe you guys are to old to keep up.....

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/14/2004 07:23:51 By Jim Kavney
OK, guys looks like we've got another fisherman Brother, Brooks Henderson (56) is joining this group of adventures.

<*((((><

Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/14/2004 07:40:50 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
It looks like you are trying to make us younger guys look bad....... We are only trying to keep up with the time and respect our elders.....

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/14/2004 09:42:55 By Terrence W. Grant
by the way Brooks was inducted in U of Florida Hall of Fame...not as fisherman!!!!!

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/15/2004 06:46:17 By Jim Kavney
Terry, please fill us in on Brooks and U of Florida Hall of Fame or are you just letting your mouth run away again?

Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 01/15/2004 07:46:43 By Terrence W. Grant
"Mouth running away again"..i've been testifying for 25 years and never been accused of that...don't speak with forked tongue.

Birdie was inducted into Hall for Basketball and was drafted as a pro

Terry your a God and loved by us all, young and old! Not to mention you have excellent taste in women!!!!!!!

T- I think the 60's pups have been intimidated by your fishing prowess. Anyway, don't they have to be home by midnight?
dh

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 02/29/2004 07:41:03 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
We don't have the word intimidated in our vocabulary..... by the way we pay $20.00 dollars at the docks for our pictures.....

Don , we are trying to work things out .....with the guys......00-000

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/05/2004 07:01:15 By Terrence W. Grant
Gastonnnnnnnnnnnn...what are you trying to work out? Are you taking a collection from the guys of the 60's to get the $250 deposit so you can send one guy who will come back with tall tales dreamed up while he was sitting by the hotel pool puffing on a cuban cigar...I've been to Belize and the fishing is GREAT Jim save a spot for Herb as I told him I would loan him the $250 deposit and he will sign up if flight rotation is good....John S wants to go I heard but is spending too much time trying to charter a plane. I'm re considering ordering championship trophys if only a half dozen guys show up.. Much love to the brothers of the 60's

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/06/2004 05:47:31 By Jim Kavney
Come on Terry don't pick on the kids!

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/08/2004 08:45:37 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, Jim and the rest of you old farts, that were born before the invented hooks and fishing rods , be ready to meet your challenge . The boys from the late 60's.........

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/09/2004 06:21:40 By Terrence W. Grant
Gastonnnnnnnnn

First there isn't any challenge for in order to have a challenge you have to have participants. The guys of the 50's are there and one brave guy (John S)of the 60's...We consider John S as part of our group becuase he has the intelligence to sign up and be part of this great venture. Nothing to say about his intelligence being the only guy from the 60's sitting around the pool at night putting up with the 50's BS...but John, Herb and I have hung out in some of the same tough places in Latin America and he can handle himself besides being a good fisherman. The next guy to sign up will get a camera shot of Don H. cleaning one of the new singee's first catch. The second guy to sign up will get a personal introduction by me to Vivien (waitress table #6) at the LODGE.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/09/2004 10:02:25 By Don H.

Got a check from John Scopetta today so he's in for the trip to Belize. Come guys don't miss this one it's going to be to good to miss out on. I can hear those fish stories growing even before we get there.

Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/14/2004 07:12:55 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Jim , you should have my check no later than monday. This will be money well spent since I know that at least Scopetta and I will be there to kick some Ass. Two 68 guys ,and you saw the picture I sent in, can kick at least half a dozen guys ASS any given day.....

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/15/2004 07:49:05 By Terrence W. Grant
Jim

Once you receive Gastonnnnn check please post for verification and also take it to closest police station for them to put it under microscope to detect any foreign substance...cause his kicking 6 guys ASS shows he's smoking something..now with John at his side that's a different story.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/15/2004 02:27:18 By Terrence W. Grant
i figure i could lure Ross Downing into coming and Tampa could be for the guys in middle of state and even ME but i'll drive to miami and get a hotel if i have to.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/15/2004 08:04:36 By Don H.
T-Did you talk to Ross? He keeps a boat ( big) in either Palm Beach area or Miami. I sent him an email about the trip and he didn't respond. We taked by phone and he was going to call me in New Orleans, lunch, etc. I haven't been there in a couple of months. Will probably resume in the summer( not to interfer with our trip). Have already put them on notice. Maybe they'll terminate my contract.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/15/2004 08:07:08 By Don H.
T- After thoughts-sorry to clutter up the message board. I think Miami is the only departure point for Belize. Jim would know.

I got the same reaction from Ross..was going to return my call according to wife

I had the pleasure of inviting Steve Bishoff to join us in Belize and he is pretty sure he can make the trip. I you don't receive Gaston's check by Monday, I will go get it from him and send it in. We need to recruit a couple of additional sixties guys to insure the friendly competition will be evenly matched.
We realize that there will have to be some concessions granted on our part due to age differences and the skill factor of our fearless leader and play by play commentator Mr.Ruiz who will guide us to victory in the swamp.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/16/2004 07:42:00 By Terrence W. Grant
Gastonnnnnnnn may be a play by play commentator (like Joe Buck) but like BUCK I question his ability to play in the big leagues...of course we old timers are always anxious to give a rookie a chance....John great job getting Steve to come along and I know he will be an asset to the group and have a great time

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/16/2004 10:08:21 By Don H.
Hey you 60's brothers, the deciding factor for the trophies will be the snake hunting trip AT NIGHT! Experience will prevail.:-)

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/16/2004 12:10:25 By Jim Kavney
Don, the snake hunting was supposed to be a secret. Your going to scare these kids into not going or they will show up with boots up to their waist and a flak jacket covering the rest of them.

Jim

HJ,
Builds character!

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/16/2004 10:04:26 By john scopetta 68
Hey! No one mentioned anything about SNAKES! I always hated those critters. When Jim mentioned he lived in the Key's with three hundred and some snakes I thought he was referring to his neighbors in Islamorada That can be a very rough crowd.
I petition we keep it to fishing only and forget about the snake hunting part. Gaston and I are not the hunting type anyway. The only time we ever went camping as a group in 67 we ended up setting the everglades on fire and wrecking our car trying to escape from the forest rangers.
Besides Gaston is the king of the lady hunters anyway? He sure knows how to snake them away.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/16/2004 10:33:28 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
John , you are right ...I don't care for those critters also...this is a fishing trip , not a snake hunt....'67' was enough for me ....those were the days.....John and I will keep the local women happy while you old farts ,go play with your snakes.....thanks ,but no thanks....

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/17/2004 06:58:53 By Terrence W. Grant
Wait a minute this old fart doesn't like snakes either. But I take exception to the comments from Gaston and John...hell they been playing with their own snakes for years...Next subject...there is a tour of the Mayan ruins if you want to go...you can climb up a pyrmid type structure and see where the people were sacrificed. I didn't especially like the climb DOWN the structure. As far as the women are concerned remember this used to be called British Hondurues (spelling)and the women wouldn't be able to understand Gastonnnnnnnnn Cuban dialect. At the same time they seem to worship the tall (6'+) white haired type males who exhibit great fishing wisdom, don't speak with forked tonque and carry little blue pills

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/17/2004 10:47:39 By Don H.
Don't count out the grey beards with the pursuit of happiness. Why do I keep getting these emails from the 60's girl? Right Terry?
dh

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/17/2004 11:16:33 By Jim Kavney
Boy! Did I tell you they'd wimp out or what? But it's OK, I hate to hear them squealling. Snake hunting is a man game anyway. I bet after a day of fishing they will be in bed by 9PM, just when the snake and woman start coming out.

Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/17/2004 12:42:53 By Terrence W. Grant
For you guys that dont know it..we will be fishing in three different areas...rivers snook and tarpon...and you can see the parrots and monkeys in the distance ...really nice setting and relaxing...then there is great snook fishing on the inside even next to the runway at the airport (small single engine) then on the way out there is GREAT TARPON fishing and you run into schools of bonita, jack for some minor fights...then towards the outside i caught a nice cobia and hooked up with a massive ray that i fought for 1 1/4 and took picture and cut line...by the way if things havent changed each guide has many years of experience we should rotate guides two to three fishing per boat..boats are open and about 24 feet...poles are provided and most of the time we use lures. At one time I was using a lure which was bigger than most of Gastonnnn fish.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/17/2004 06:15:16 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, it must have been a BIG LURE ......I can feel by reading you older guys posts.....that fear is beginning to show.....we will take it easy on you guys , after all our parents always told us to respect our elders......

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/18/2004 09:22:06 By john scopetta 68
I think the monkeys and parrots would best describe how we the 60tys group view our competition. If Terry fought a ray for sport he must have been using dead mullet heads for bait in the murky river water and the guides let him think he was fighting a big cubera. The use of dead mullet heads is not allowed under the Cuban Santeria culture so Gaston and I don't have to be concerned with hooking any of those winged monsters.
Steve has informed me that we should bring our own takle so we are contacting the Action Belize management for suggestions. The best way to insure the proper bait and takle is to bring it with you.
If we can get Abney to detach from the summer concert series to make the trip he might be able to convince Tatiana [and friends] to tag along for the trip. As you know when you are visiting these countries and you want to enjoy the finer things, the best way is to import them. Then again Gaston is the king in that department.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/18/2004 08:15:35 By Terrence W. Grant
I've learned in my profession to take ABUSE...we didn't use Cuban (bait) mullet heads...We didnt know it was a ray until surface...anyway I would really like to see Art and Herb come on the trip as they would add a little CLASS to the 60's group...Bring whatever bait you want but knowing you guys you'll find an easier softer way.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/18/2004 08:49:30 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, you are getting worried .....I will bring my YOYO to show off.... who needs rods and special tackle??????

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/18/2004 09:00:28 By Don H.
Don't you youngsters know that a mullet head can be deadly for big snook. Looks like we're going to need a referee for this contest, and no yoyos.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/18/2004 09:40:17 By Terrence W. Grant
Gastonnnnn'S YO YO = A MIRROR

luv ya bro

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/19/2004 00:30:21 By john scopetta 68
The lures needed are pictured in the Action Belize web site. It appears to be mostly artificial diving lures and some pretty heavy tackle. It says in the action plan that the fishing this time of year favors the Snook and Tarpon. I have only cough Tarpon by accident in Government Cut and snook with snag hooks as they slept beneath the mangrove in Pines Canal. But Gaston and I will be studying the videos that I have ordered and consulting with our expert colleague Steve and we will be ready for the battle in the river. Steve has informed me that he has in his tackle box a few secret weapons given to him by Bouncer that those fish in Belize have never seen and wont be able to resist.
As you know the Yoyo's are deadly for the days we go after the Rabirubia and Pargo which just looking at Gaston's picture in the Stags web site should put the fear of God in to the competition. They don't call him the Mr. Snapper for nothing....see you Thursday, Love ya... John

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/19/2004 01:56:04 By Terrence W. Grant
Mr. Snapper--------I love it-----good one John and some of the secret stuff out of the box Hooks by Trojen

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/19/2004 08:53:32 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Hey , guys stop picking on me ....I 'am going for the fishing and the drinks by the pool side everything else is meaningless to me..... By the way Terry no snappers and trojans ... Spelled correctly ...... for an American guy you sure can't spell......Whats Carcasas??????????

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/19/2004 09:41:15 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
I was just reading past post on the web and looking at past pictures of BIG TIME fisherman. It made me wonder if all of those stories and pictures were actually real....John Gibson ,Ivan, Chocho, Helmly , Billy Bear and so on and so on.....I guess my sardine was real and the rest were BS stories or fish borrowed at the docks.....

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/19/2004 10:16:20 By john scopetta 68
Gaston, that is so funny about the spelling of the Trojen men I dint see that??? I promise we will stop picking on you when we get down to Belize and the competition starts getting hot. Blood in the hands and sweat on the brow the life of the Stags fishing adventurers. It will read like a Hemingway novel gone wrong, except even funnier. My side is hurting already reading the posted comments. I can just imagine what it will sound like after a couple of drinks and a long day of fishing.
Heard from Herb today, HE'S ALIVE!!! it was so nice to hear his typing again. See you Thursday. Que te cresca.... John

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/20/2004 09:54:00 By Terrence W. Grant
Great fisherman were never known for their spelling and especially me...I just type and let the letters fall...i will share my Trojan story around the pool...John glad to hear Herb is around I hope he's bidding trips so he can go fishing with us....Gastonnnnnnnn your the best and I know you can take my stuff in stride...For those of you that have scanned this site from the beginning ...don't forget the med school!!!!!!!!!

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/20/2004 06:32:30 By Jim Kavney
John, you guys can fish with yo-yo for Rabirubia and Pargo pequeno on the reef, but in the rivers you better stick to rod and reel for the Pargo grande. Or Mr. Pargo might get pulled overboard and get swallowed up by a Culebra Grande. Just remember the trophy for the Robalo Grande has my name on it!

Jim

I went to Sunset Movies on US1 in the early 50's where you got a double feature, 3 cartoons, 1 serial 1 news reel and a little action in the back rows and like you say it was less than a quarter

Hell...Herb will tell you scary things about paths at the Blue Goose in Panama and some of the brothers from Managua about Hortensia's and the Chemise and my little place located near the stadium...Tell Herb to come down for 3 days

Also does anyone remember Nettlows or the Hex on Galloway/Sunset

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/22/2004 09:05:14 By john scopetta 68
how did you guys go from fishing to watering hole stories so quickly??? I the 67.68 years Stags had is own reserved section on the Miracle Theater in Downtown Gables. In fact we had our own entrance via the side door. It was cheaper than even in the fifties.
Getting back to fishing, Jim, the Yo-yo in Cuba was very effective against the Cubera because you could use your body as drag and with the heavy line 150# create great pressure on the fish. Most of the fish cought were not eaten because off the Siguatera problem. The ones in the river will be very interesting to see how they fight. Do they ever use lobster like here?? Gaston told me as a warm up he is going fly fishing in the Carolinas for the next ten days. I told him that would make great training for Belize because those illusive Carolina Horse flies are very difficult to smash on top of the water and they bite like the devil. The overhand tennis swing works best. See you guys soon, john

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/22/2004 10:48:59 By Terrence W. Grant
Good line's John...ok just one more 50's thing on this site...tropicare drive in....we used to go in via two ways...trunk or Under newspaper in the back of Bill Days truck...the ticket taker must have thought BD was some kind of pervert going to the drive in my himself

The last time i went fishing in belize some guys were fly fishing on a river and told us to go back as this was theri spot..I was driving the boat and proceeded to kick up a little water around them

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/22/2004 05:28:23 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
you old farts better be ready... after John's assistance on the proper way to go fly fishing , you better watch out........

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/22/2004 09:33:09 By Terrence W. Grant
with the BS that you produce...you won't have any problems with flies

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/23/2004 06:36:55 By Terrence W. Grant
Don...I dont think snook will be a problem...the problem is going to be Tarpon as to either weight or lenght because of just bringing it to the side...when i was there the boats were about 20 to 24 feet...i've fished comfortably with 3 + guide and of course 2 with guide make sure you bring a good hat and sun screen...the hotel packs us a lunch and water...and the neat thing is you take your snook back to the kitchen...go to your room rest and shower and go down to dinner and eat your snook they did charge about 6.00 for all the rest ie tea pie salad potato...also i went to a couple of local eating joints at night...good but a little $$$...which doesnt matter ot 60/s guys as they got $$$$...it's us old farts on a fixed income that need to conserve.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/23/2004 06:59:00 By Jim Kavney
On December 21, 2003 the chairman of the awards committee (T-mouth Grant) wrote the following statement:

"With Jim's approval I'm going to donate one or 2 trophies for largest Tarpon (brought to side of boat) and Snook caught."

So, we don't have to be concerned with sharks, rays and logs. But, Don you have a great point about weight or length. Let just go with the length. We don't have to have a ruler we can just measure them with a line tying a knot after measuring nose to vee of tail. Of course you must give your Stags Honor, along with 3 wittiness and photos taken from 3 different angles. Terry remember who's name go on the Snook Trophy. And be sure to spell it with a "K."
Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/23/2004 08:22:37 By Terrence W. Grant
as in KENO

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/23/2004 08:27:36 By Terrence W. Grant
yea lenght best...that way we dont have to have Gastonnnnn empty his pockets before we leave as in hiding weights and stuffing down the throat of the fish for extra weight....got a laugh out of the Stags Honor comment backed up with witness's and pictures...

so do you guys want trophys or each chip in $100 for best two fish and split the 800 to 1000 lets vote i will buy the trophys myself

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/23/2004 09:49:57 By john scopetta 68
Instead of trophies why don't we have some daily Calcutta's the will make it very interesting and satisfying 20 dollar pools per person per day should be just perfect to keep even the pool and drink dwellers interested.
This trip will someday evolve in to the Stags fishing tournament and at that time the trophies will be more appropriate??? Love you guys, but can the sweethearts and sponsors come???

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/23/2004 10:36:07 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
John , Sweethearts and Sponsors are welcomed to come ....and if that means that ,I will have to give up fishing with the guys and protect them and take care of them by the Pool bar..-...

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/24/2004 09:05:26 By Terrence W. Grant
John an excellent idea about dividing the money into a daily wager...also remember the guys that draw Gastonnnnnnnn as a fishing partner for that day will have to spend hours helping him untangle his line. Speaking of fishing partners what is a good simple system of rotating partners.

I agree on sweetheart and sponsors...but with these boats there is no going below..we just hang our lure over the side...i was communicating with one sponsor who is a pro fisherwomen from Ocala think her name was Heather..I said come along and she said she'd kick all our ass's, but couldnt get away as she's a nurse. Now that ok with the gringo's but you guy's south of miami that would be devastating to the macho image.

Come on guys we need feedback on the wagering and rotation

Hey! A twenty dollar a day pot sounds great to me. I think we should hold off on the rotation until we get there. If we set it up now and get more people we will be doing it again and again.

Jim

$20 per day sounds good.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/25/2004 09:18:37 By john scopetta 68
I agree with Jim the rotation should be based on the No. of attendees' we get on the trip. The competition can be either individual or in teams of two anglers or In groups divided by the years you attended high school. Don and Jim should set up a points per species depending on the degree of difficulty in catching it. One example. Tarpon snook and cubera should all be 100 points over a minimum size. Other lesser but still Game fish such as snapper and yellowtail and grouper 75 points barracuda shark and yes even rays 50 points.
Carolina Horse flies don't count unless you are fishing with Gaston. Then each horse fly is ten points. Of coarse there should be additional calcutta's for largest fish of the day, best fish story of the day. Biggest lie and so on.
I have been consulting the experts on what lures and tackle to use and we are putting together an impressive arsenal of secret weapons for use in Belize.
Let the Ladies come we can handle the pressure besides we have Gus and he can charm them all....John

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 04/25/2004 10:09:21 By Don H.
John,
Now you're talking. Let's make this so complicated that Gaston will never figure it out and we'll get some of that money that getting moldie from being buried in his back yard. Leave it to Kavney, he'll come up with a plan satisfactory to all.
Overall, I think it should be daily competition, by each boat or team sounds goods (at least Gaston will be able to ride on some team). But he'll have to take his own fish off the hook if he does land one.Wouldn't it be funny as hell if all we get skunked!
Biggest tarpon should be interesting, at least to measure. As you well know a 100 pounder will knock your lights out. Good thing we'll have guides to take care of us city slickers.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/02/2004 12:39:58 By Jim Kavney
Boy! You can tell Gaston is on vacation the website been quite all week. Come on guys lets make like we're still alive. Gaston is in North Carolina trying to fly fishing, practicing for Belize no doubt. What he catches in NC, we would be using for bait in Belize. Better move over to the coast and try salt water if, you want to practice.

Lots of Luck!
Jim

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/02/2004 11:50:15 By john scopetta 68
Jim as I mentioned to you in my E mail, I truly feel those brothers that enjoy fishing should make an effort to make this trip. It is a wonderful opportunity to fish for giant Tarpon Cubera and snook in some very strange surroundings. The experience alone is more than worth it coupled with the fine group of brothers that you can share it with. How can you miss???

Keno has had his full payment in for over a week now. Steve got his out yesterday too. There only one slow poke in the crowd, I'm still trying to get your name as it is on your passport for two weeks now. Fart around some more and you'll be paying full air fair ($575 or more). Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/07/2004 01:12:13 By Terrence W. Grant
WHEN I WENT DOWN THERE SEVERAL YEARS AGO I HAD MY PICTURE TAKEN WITH ONE OF THE"MED STUDENTS" SHE MADE BO DEREK LOOK LIKE A #2.(AN OLDER WOMAN MAYBE 23)..TRYING TO LOCATE PICTURES I TOOK DOWN THERE AS I TYPE

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/07/2004 01:28:02 By Terrence W. Grant
ALSO WHO IS GOING TO BRING THE FIGHTING BELT TO STRAP ON ME AS I AM BRINGING IN A 50 POUND TARPON

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/07/2004 04:17:33 By Don H. '57
Rookie, shouldn't need a fighting belt for a 50# 'poon. Remeber, BOW to the jump. Can't wait!

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/08/2004 06:44:54 By Terrence W. Grant
YES I KNOW THE TENDENCY IS TO PULL BACK ONCE YOU SEE FISH BREAK WATER..RE FIGHTING BELT...I NEED ONE AS I HAVE 6 PAC ABS AND CAN'T BURY THE POLE IN MY GUT AS SOME OF YOU GUYS.

ANOTHER THING I JUST REMEMBERED IF YOU GET "SUMMERS" AS A GUIDE HE HAS A SNOOK PLACE OVER BY THE SMALL AIRPORT AND IT'S FUNNY LANDING SNOOK AS THE PLANES LAND OVER YOUR HEAD AND I MEAN OVER

HOW COME WE DONT SEE OR HEAR FROM KENO ON THIS

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/08/2004 08:03:55 By john scopetta 68
You guys sound like you got this fishing spot down pat. Gaston and I are getting a little nervous we don't have the expertise that some of your veteran anglers are showing. I hope you guys don't object to a bit of handicapping based on years of experience and familiarity with the fishing grounds we need all the help we can get.
On the social side we got you beat hands down because we got Gus and when it comes to turning on the charm if there is any ladies around from 23 on up they cant resist those blue eyes and the gift of gab. So as the time nears and the excitement builds we will prepare our strategy to insure our team a certain victory. By the way we are getting uniforms, and bringing our own tackle and lures this will give us a psychological advantage and as you know it is better to look good than to fish good.....John

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/08/2004 09:10:00 By Don H. '57
Don't think Keno knows how to use the computer. John, the plan is to rotate each day with fishing partners ( I think). Uniforms OK, but don't wear a tie on the boat. Rule no.22, if you bring your own fishing gear and tackle you're stuck with it through out the trip even if it isn't working. Got any secret lures? The Gray Beard Team doesn't have a clue as to which lures to bring.

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/08/2004 09:26:20 By Terrence W. Grant
FOR THOSE OF US THAT HAVE NO CHARM...THERE MIGHT BE A TEXAS HOLD UM POKER GAME WITH SMALL STEAKS

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/08/2004 09:35:47 By Terrence W. Grant
ONE OF THE THINGS WE FORGOT TO MENTION IS THAT GASTONNNNNNNNNN HAS EXPEREINCE WITH PARROTS (PARROT JUNGLE) AND HE MIGHT USE HIS CHARM WITH A SPECIAL PARROT WHISTLE TO LURE HIS PREY...BUT GUYS WEAR A HAT BECUASE HE MIGHT USE THE WRONG CALL AND GET US DUMPED ON.....

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/08/2004 09:47:21 By Terrence W. Grant
ALSO JOHN DON IS RIGHT WE WILL ROTATE FISHING PARTNERS ON A DAILY BASIS AND WHO IS FORTUNATE TO FISH WITH DON ON THE FIRST DAY HE WILL LEARN ALOT ABOUT FISHING...IF YOU DRAW ME THE ONLY THING YOU GET IS ALOT OF LAUGHS AND HEAPS OF BS (BUT CONFIRMED BS)...GUYS DONT BRING YOUR OWN TACKLE UNLESS IT A MUST...THEY HAVE EVERYTHING...ANY OF YOU GUYS GOT SOME OLD CHEAP POKER CHIPS TO BRING

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/08/2004 01:46:42 By john scopetta 68
Rotation is the correct way to insure the validity of each catch. There should be a team member from each group on each boat everyday. The lures are being handled by Capt. Bischoff and since he has chosen to remain silent in the battle of words, I don't know yet what he has up his sleeve. We don't play cards we only play Dominos and we will bring our white undershirts and large gold chains to go with the Dominos and we will somehow sneak a small Cuban coffee pot and a bag of Pilon for those early mornings. Gaston being a retired banker has agreed to become responsible for holding the calcutta money and insuring that it remains safe during the trip....John

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/08/2004 03:16:05 By Terrence W. Grant
GEEEZZ JOHN THAT WAS A BRILLIANT BIT...YOUR ELOQUENCE IN PRESENTATION DOESN'T EQUAL THAT OF A GABLES GRAD MUCHLESS A STAG...I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING FUNNY...EACH DAY WHEN WE LEAVE THE "DOCK" WE GO DOWN THE RIVER THRU TOWN...DON'T STAND UP IN THE BOAT AS YOU MIGHT HIT YOUR HEAD ON THE BRIDGE WHILE PASSING UNDER IT...DON'T FALL OVERBOARD IN THE CENTER OF TOWN UNLESS YOU HAVE A BOTTLE OF TIDY BOWL STRAPPED TO YOUR WAIST...ONCE OUTSIDE (SEA) AND IN THE RIVERS OF THE JUNGLE CRYSTAL CLEAR...I'D LIKE TO LEARN DOMINO'S SOUNDS GOOD AS I USED TO EAT THEIR PIZZA'S

Re: Stags Fishing and Ski TripsPosted at 05/08/2004 04:45:24 By john scopetta 68
I attended prep school in NY for 9 Th. and 10 Th. grade and some of that most have survived the Gables years otherwise I can't explain it just comes pouring out.
I was all Stags in 11 Th. and 12 Th. and at Gables ran with the best of them yet always under the watchful eye of the little Ukrainian that those who served him feared like the devil. Coach Kotys.
I have been to Belize a couple of times but only to the capital and the airport. I believe the TAN flight from Tegucigalpa stopped there to and from Miami but that was when they still flew Electra's.
I have been fishing and diving for many years and my motto is if it has fins I can catch it also a Key Rat so fishing is in my blood. Gaston has a better one if it has a nice tail he can catch them. It will be great to share a boat with any of my Stags brothers I am sure it will be a blast. However Gaston has to hold the money if Jim is going to set the rules. John
