Terry, I knew it was your idea, I thought about saying something, but I wanted to see how long it was going to take you to say something to set the record straight. You took longer then I expected, I bet your were biting your tongue. Well, good job you have to watch these young guys all the time.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/16/2004 09:06:11 By Terrence W. Grant
Injay:

You wouldn't remember me but I knew you when you were a toe head...your dad was my hero and took me from the depths of despair (when I was injured)and offered me hope and I hadn't even entered CG. We met when he was "scouting" the leagues. When I joined an illegal frat I told him and he said I shouldn't do that "with a wink"...He is and was a man's man as I'm sure you are. I hope one day to again shake your hand and to say thanks to the son of a man who really was a big influence in my life. Look at me now---I'm going fishing with some of the biggest BS artists around.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/20/2004 10:36:54 By john scopetta 68
I just want all of my Stags Brothers and sisters that with Kris kimel's help and the brains he inherited from his mother my older son John Paul got accepted to medical school at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. In these times of turmoil and ugliness throughout the world I find it intriguing that a friendship from thirty-six years in the pastwould hopefully make such a difference in my sons life. Kris, I publicly thank you are a good person.
Maybe now he can get married one of Janet's daughters???

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/20/2004 11:20:34 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
John , congratulations to you and Linda on your son's John pAul acceptance to medical school.... In ref to Kris assistance it comes as no surprise to me , I have known Kris and his family since our Jr. High days at So. Miami Jr High,I too was one lucky young boy to have come across the given kindness of the Kimel family...Mr. Kimel, gave me the opportunity to have the chance to be involved in sports at the Gables Youth Center by providing the needed registration fees to allow me to participate, when my parents were not able to do so.......I have been for ever gratefull for what he did and I have never forgoten ....and that was 40 yrs ago...

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/21/2004 08:25:02 By Terrence W. Grant
JOHN CONGRATULATIONS FROM DON H, JIM K, KM,AND MYSELF ON THE ACCEPTANCE OF YOUR SON IN A GREAT MEDICAL SCHOOL.HE IS SOMEONE TO BE VERY PROUD OF I'M SURE. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THIS LEAVES A SEAT OPEN IN THE RENOUNED BELIZE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE FOR A BLOND FROM THE "IT'LL DO BAR" IN HOUSTON (OFF TELEGRAPH ROAD)TO BEGIN HER MEDICAL STUDIES AND TO ABSORB THE AMBIANCE OF THE BILTMORE HOTEL.....FOR THIS WE THANK YOU

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/21/2004 10:45:54 By john scopetta 68
Terry, you laugh but Belize was one of his options if he did not get in. The good thing about Belize medical school is that they speak English the same as Granada. My suggestion is that we hop an overnight flight to Costa Rica to improve yours and Gastons chances by the pool. From what I have been told about the Belize nightlife??? You better like fishing!!!

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/21/2004 12:48:29 By Terrence W. Grant
BELIZE NIGHT LIFE = CORNER OF DOUGLAS AND BIRD..WHEN I WENT FISHING THERE 8 YEARS AGO I WAS BEAT FROM THE SUN AND ARMS TIRED FROM THE BIG ONE'S (BOY COULD I USE THAT MATERIAL IF POSTED BY SOMEONE ELSE) AS YOU KNOW I'M NO LONGER A LOUNGE LIZARD...SO I'LL TAKE YOU GUYS TO THE AIRPORT IN YOU WANT TO GO TO SJO

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/22/2004 09:38:11 By john scopetta 68
Terry I don't get your analogy with Belize nightlife being like the corner of Douglas and Bird??? Other than there is noting there. A few years back there was a bar there that the last name I believe it Used was Uncle Charlie's. Please clarify your statement.
Where is the picture of Jim with the snakes you guys keep talking about???

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/22/2004 11:38:16 By Terrence W. Grant

Thinking of all of you.

Pam
ps..Gaston, did you plant the trees?

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/24/2004 07:11:57 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Pam, good to see you back on the site.... trees not planted yet ,hopefully we start this weekend.....

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/25/2004 00:38:41 By john scopetta 68
Hey Pam, welcome back, so many of the last year reunion duelers have not posted for a while but we figure they all still read the threads and it only takes a good event to bring them out. I don't know if you have kept in touch with all the postings but the July 4 class of 69 Gables reunion weekend, appears to be gaining some steam. Maybe with you showing your pretty face some of the guys will come out of the woodwork. I don't know if Gaston and I are just a couple of nostalgic romantics or two kids that live in never never land but we are having a ball with this site as you can probably tell. Good to see you back kid, Love Ya. John

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/26/2004 01:24:51 By Janet Eaton
congratulations on your son John. If either of my daughters married a doctor I WOULD BE SO PROUD, AND IF IT WAS YOUR SON I WOULD EVEN BE MORE PROUD. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE WEDDING????????
My daughters begin at the University of Florida in about a month. Just returned from orientation up there. The whole time I was there I was wishing it was me beginning school! Hi Pam, great to hear from you.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/26/2004 10:14:14 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Janet, John and I have talked about this before...you have two beautifull daughters and we have two fantastic sons .... this could be a match made in heaven.... a Doctor and an Attorney ....can life get any better.....we can have the wedding reception at Pro Player Stadium, Televised.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/26/2004 11:07:45 By john scopetta 68
Janet it would certainly be a good one we have to invite George and Ruth for old time sakes? JP is looking at seven more years of school so there is plenty of time, he has just completed six can you imagine??? He got a masters in Cell, Molecular and Development Biology....see you soon. I played golf with Toto on Sunday and we think it would be great to have the next BNO at the Hard Rock Casino on Griffin Road and the turnpike any seconds???

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/27/2004 00:12:48 By Janet Eaton
John, my friend, max osceola, (the chief of the seminole tribe) opened that casino. I was there opening night and it is a great place! Perfect for BNO. You can win some money there too. the hotel is beautiful. You should be very proud of your son. i've lived long enough to know that anything can happen in life. who knows? if there is a wedding everyone in stags, including george and ruthie, will be invited. i'll come say hi at the bno at hard rock.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 05/28/2004 10:43:25 By john scopetta 68

I was descending into Chicago yesterday from Salt Lake City when I recieved a message from United Airlines Flight Operations Dispatch Department. The Co-pilot saw it first and took it off the printer and handed it to me. He was puzzled by the content and could not understand it. The message said "Hi Herb, hope you're doing well. COUNTS is having a reunion October 8-9. Talk to you soon, Jim Hansen."
For those that might not remember, Jim was in COUNTS and graduated in 66 or 67. Jim was a Flight Dispatcher for Eastern Airlines and now is doing the same work with United Airlines. After arriving in Chicago I phoned Jim and volunteered to help find some of their old members. If any of you keep in contact or know how I could reach any of their alumni please let me know.
I think it would be wonderful if they could experience what we had.
BTW Jim was married to Linda Miller. Linda was a Stags Sponser in 1966.

Bob Ajhar has moved out of St. Johns Rehab. Center and now resides in a assisted living facility.
The name of the facility is "North Lake Retirement Living." Address is 1222 North 16th Ave. Hollywood Fla. 33020. He doesn't have a phone yet but you can still reach him on his Cell at 954-494-4126. We should have his computer set back up by the 14th of this month.
Thanks Art for all the help in getting Bob moved in. I owe you a Cigar and a little Havana Club to chase it down with.

Hanson went to Columbus High School and I think he graduated in 1966. He played football and was one tuff guy. Another Count guy who went to Columbus was Mike O'Brien, He lived on the Key and he was at last I heard still on the Key working at the Beach Club. Tuff guys ! Mike saved my ass more than once. I was a freshman the year he graduated. Ron Folts won't make that
reunion. The one thing I remember about the guys
in Counts was the lack of true brotherhood, but then what the hell would I know having spent H.S.
at Columbus and having the best of brothers in
STAGS

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 07/06/2004 07:05:09 By H. B. Stebbins (68)
I was able to spend a portion of my last two weekends with Sam Vizzini in Albuquerque.
I got to meet Sam's wife Pat (Sam was so fortunate to find such a beautiful lady) and talked about old times over dinner with Sam, Pat and Sam's Mom. Mrs. Vizzini hasn't changed a bit. As all of the guys from the mid-60's know, Mrs. Vizzini and Mrs. Ajhar were friends while we were growing up. They kind of lost touch over the years. I gave both of them telephone numbers and now their back in touch again.
Sam is quite consumed with his work and will be through the election. He is looking forward to the next Stags reunion and will definitely attend.
While visiting with Sam I shared pictures and memorabilia from Jr. High School and Gables. He and the family really enjoyed them.
I just wish we could of spent more time together.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Herb

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 07/10/2004 08:32:58 By john Scopetta 68
Herb, is good that you got to see Sam. He is someone Stags members can be very proud off and admire. Tell him if he needs any help with security down here in Florida Stags in more than willing to help out. After all we have Terry that can organize us with his vast experience in the field. Kidding aside, Sam he is a tribute to our country. Give him my best. PS Tell him he should have been voted cutest in our class instead of Nagel....John

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 07/15/2004 08:57:06 By Janet Eaton
i communicated with sam during the reunion time last year. i loved sam vizzini. he was a handsome, class act guy from the first day i met him at south miami junior high school. his dad was the police chief of south miami and I suspected that sam would follow in his foot steps somehow. looks like he has one up on his ole dad. he has done well. he can protect me anytime!

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 07/24/2004 07:09:42 By Terrence W. Grant
it's something that my friend and brother (ART) would smoke during a break

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 07/24/2004 06:54:33 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)

Terry, just to clear my Brother Art from being accused of smoking something not legal , I thought I give you some imformation on the "TUMBADORA"

Cuba
Tumbadora- the less common Cuban name for the conga drum, a barrel shaped drum played with bare hands on the thick skins. First made of hardwood staves, it is also made of fiberglass. The name likely comes from an earlier version, the tambor de conga. Although some players use as many as 5 0r 6 drums, the early style (and most common for rumba) is to play on only one drum. The largest is called tumba, the smallest high pitched solo drum the quinto; in between are the conga and segundo. Most often a band musician plays a pair. The main drum for rumba, it entered the bandstand with the son-montuno.
So Terry my Brother , don't forget Art plays the CHELLO.......................

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 07/27/2004 08:25:29 By Manny Garcia 68
Art:
Don't listen to Gaston, he sounds like a channel 2 documentary on CUBA. A TUMBADORA is the cuban name for a BONG, T was right. We'll talk on August 7th. Hey Gaston is Augst 7th a special day in cuban history?

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 07/27/2004 09:35:58 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Manny ,glad you asked ....on August 7th 1960...Fidel Castro order the seizure of #26 United States companies doing business in the Island...this was brought on do to the United States cutting the sugar quotas . The dollar value of the nationalization of these companies was in excess of $ 1 billion .

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 07/28/2004 07:55:57 By Manny Garcia 68
Gaston:

I am impressed, but I still think that TUMBADORA is the cuban name for a BONG.

On another subject, Herb Stebbins turned 55 this past July 23rd (he looks more like 65, but who's counting) lets all send our best whishes to brother Herb. He's trying to outlive his parrot Sugar....; Go for it Herb.
I still want to see her flying across the lake holding an M-80 on her claws.

Marie, at least I feel 35 inside. Thanks.
Garcia, I will be buying 30,000 shares of Clairol at the open today. You better get in early because I'm heading for Wallgreens about 11 o'clock.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 07/29/2004 10:00:51 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Terry, Sugar is my pet Macaw (large Parrot). Macaws have about 500lbs/sq in. of crushing power in their beeks, half that of a great white shark, so Brother Garcia normally keeps his distance.
Terry, when I set up my retirement plans, two things never factored into the equation. One being Social Security, and the other being any defined pension plan.
In the airline industry, as you know there is way too much competition to fund the plans that have existed over the past 25 years.
Unfortunately the funds at UAL will end up just like the plans at Pan Am.
They will fall in the lap of the PBGC.
It's not a total loss though. There will always be a constant stream of beer money.
Tell your better half that I said hello.
Herb

The address for the Aug. 7th. "Stags Nigh Out" is 12980 SW 89 Ave. Miami. I'm going to try and have a printable Map of the location on the website sometime next week. I'm waiting for Brother Dannelly to return from vacation to draw it and get it to me. Once I have it I'll post it. The place was a little hard to find last time. Work on your '73 guys and get a big turnout, I talked the Chirsso a coupled of weeks ago and he's said he would be there.

Terry that statement went right over my head what on earth did you mean??? That you performed as both sexes??? Or that you were known to bat from either side of the plate or that your testimony would swing both ways I don't get it???

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/03/2004 10:01:02 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Thanks Janet. It's so great that we can still chat here after so many years. I just happened to come across that picture in 4th grade, (Mrs. Forbes) while going through some material in storage. It's hard to believe that its been so many years ago.
Funny how the memorys last. I can still remember the complete layout of David Farchild Elementary School.
A while back I was riding my motorcycle through our old neighborhood and decided to go by the elementary school. The faculty was nice enough to let me walk through the school. 95% of it is still the same. That really took me back.
We grew up in a neat time.
By the way, that was a joke about coloring my hair. My hair is a natural light brown color. Only a coincidence that it matches the Clairol Light Brown M9 Color.
Terry, if they only new the half of it.
I hope they didn't talk with any of the natives in Guatemala.
Herb

Terry, wouldn't that be fun! Only if I could get 7 days off in a row.
We could take Manny, John, and Gaston and hop around the continent introducing them to our old stomping grounds.(I'm sure Scopetta has a few of his own).
The only problem would be, being able to muster up enough self control in order to return in one piece.
On second thought, we might need a month.
Herb

Herb,David Fairchild was a great school. Do you remember Mr. Lang, the PE teacher? He was very cool. I loved that school. My kids know the david fairchild song, word for word. I too have gone by there (my parents lived in the same house until 2 years ago)and walked through the halls. Weren't the colors turquoise and pink? wow! i remeber your house only a couple of blocks away. we used to walk to allens drugstore after school to get a cherry coke. Yes, we did grow up in a great time and it is very special that we are still talking!!!!

Manny,

You came out of hibernation to call Herb's date a pig, what do you have against Herb?? Has he ever done anything to hurt you in any way first you want to kill his bird, insult his ducks and now discrediting his memories about Terry and him in the Latin American bordellos? I don't get it but I am glad you have returned I love your sarcastic humor. If we can only get Cielo to reappear she can match you step for step. Have a great time on Saturday!!!! I am sorry I will not be in town I hate not seeing everyone.

Janet, the colors are right....I still have the DFC school Beenie.......Saw Mr. Lang about 5 or 6 yrs ago.....Allen's drug store ,Vanilla Coke.....Funny thing happend to me at Allen's drugs ...Mr. Allen caught me stealing gum, in 1965 for Chip Presby while pledging Stags.....In 1972 I was in banking and was promoted to AVP at the Commercial Bank of Kendall , went to my induction presentation at the Holding Co....Guess who I met with ...Mr. Allen himself and first thing out of his mouth was, Gaston how is your mom and dad ,,,,,next, I guess you learned your lesson and found the right way to do things in life after your little insident........Love this Country..

Sorry to hear you're not going to make it to the BNO tomorrow it should be lots of fun like always. Can't wait to hear Gaston's stories I am in awe at how much he can recall, heck I can't even remember what I had for lunch today, and I am much younger than him.
See you soon.

Herb, Janet, Marie, How funny that we all took a ride thru memory lane in the old school.....what special times we now cherish ........think of the time that has gone by and the memories that we can share for ever.......for me ,what a special time ,new in this country , not knowing what to expect ,a language foreing to me, but as children it had no bearing on what it would be like , the fear , the strange , the unknown......But what a surprise and great feeling to have met such wonderfull innocent children like myself which turned out to be so kind and wonderful.......thanks for being there with open arms and a part of my first impression of what it was to be the greatest moment of my life...I 'am so greatful to have had you all around then and now.....Injay ,Tommy and the rest of you.......LOVE YOU....

thanks marie. birthdays are days i dont particulary look forward to anymore. Getting older and older. marie, i think we went to allens drug store every day didn't we???? I remember when you stole some candy, got caught, and your mom made you go back up and return it( they must have called her on the phone). I hate to admit but allens drug must have had a shoplifting problem between gaston, you and me (i never got caught)!!!! It was so tempting, the whole candy display was right by the front door!!!!

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/08/2004 11:45:30 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Marie, you mentioned the YMCA.
Remember as kids how large the "Rock Pit" seemed.
There was the large rock in the center that we called the "Mountain".
There was a stone walk way to it just across the street from my house. It seemed like it was a mile high.
I walked it a few months ago and could not believe how small it really was.
The "Mountain" is still there (maybe 20 feet high).
It took about 5 minutes to walk from the Steve Trescott's old home to the YMCA.
It's funny how magnified our perceptions were as kids.
Janet, Allens is still there.
The soda bar has not changed much.
What memories!
Garcia, she might not have been much to look at but she had a heart of gold. Next time I'm at Brown's Marina I just might have to look her up.
Herb

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/09/2004 06:52:27 By john Scopetta 68
Herb, Browns Marina is gone, the owner Julian Brown now runs the Complete Angler down the road. Besides, Bimini is a place were almost everyone that has visited has had a Bahama Mama experience at one time or another.
I had the pleasure of visiting with Kris and having dinner with him and his wife in this great little town outside of Lexington, (see pictures) in pictures of today. He sends you all his best regards.
What you guys did for Bobby Ajhar deserves recognition of the highest kind. God Bless you all !!!!!

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/09/2004 07:43:22 By Herb Stebbins(68)
John, its been quite a while sense I have been back to the North Island, so I only remember the layout.
Back in 1972 I flew for Jim Richardson, the owner of Bimini Yacht Club and Marina.
Back then I would spend every weekend there or in Normans Cay.
I had a flash back about a week ago after watching "Silence of the Lambs".
At the very end of the movie when Anthony Hopkins is telling Jodie Foster that he is having an old friend for dinner, there is a lengthy shot of the main street on North Bimini looking west to east.
I did a double take and played it back.
Sure enough, in the credits they acknowleged the Bahamas for there assistance in making the film.
Herb

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/09/2004 09:56:28 By john Scopetta 68
Richardson wasn't he the owner of the hotel in south Bimini??? He saved Arturo Hoyo and I one time when our 23 single IO Scotty Craft broke down between Bimini and Andros Island and we were stranded in Bimini after being towed back. He flew over a mechanic named Tony that had been sent back by Bahamian Customs, after trying to enter via Chalks. I think he had a twin engine Piper that I would see land all the time. We gave him 200 Lobsters that we had poached from the traps while being stranded in the middle of the Bahama Banks.
Kris said to say Hi!!! and I told him we never get to see you any more. He is going to try and make it down this winter. I am planning on going to Keenland, to see the horse racing when it opens in October we should get a group together and go for a day. Is a lovely place!!!!

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/09/2004 10:16:07 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Yes John, Jim Richardson owned the Hotel on the South Island. He would give you the shirt off his back, a real great guy to work for. He had 3 Piper Aztecs and a Cessna 337 (Push-Pull AKA "The Doctor Killer").
Jim also owned Opa-Locka Flight Center. I was his Chief Pilot and worked with Joe Claytor and Bill Compton (Cresants).
Those were wild times.
I don't know if you ever came across Joe or Bill but they both should have been in Stags.
Joe is now a Captain with Southwest Airlines an Bill is the retired CEO of TWA.
I better get off my fat ass and get something done on my 2 days off.
Talk to you later Pal!

Herb...you always liked them WITH HEARTS OF GOLD.also I didnt realize Southwest Airlines CEO a Gables grad..sorry I missed the 69 reunion...but after looking at all the pictures I'm sure I would have gotten into major trouble...The Biltmore should have signed those ladies up as ads in Vogue...as for John S. for a canned ham ad.....

Herb, do you remember playing capture the flag at the ymca? we would go play ALL day on Saturday?? That was great fun.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/11/2004 05:07:56 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Terry, he was the CEO of TWA. Bill graduated from Gables in 1966. He stayed on with American Airlines through the merger then retired a year later after the transition was complete.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/11/2004 05:42:43 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Janet, I sure do.
Also the summer activities at David Farchild were a lot of fun.
I can remember riding my bike over to Tommy Ott's house then both of us would head over to David Farchild for the day.
What a great friend he was.
Have you been back to Gables sense we graduated?
Gaston and I went back and got a tour from Harold Cole (Athletic Directer of CGHS).
They have added on and updated but it's the same school.
What surprised me the most is the relationship between the faculty and the students.
The students have a closer relationship with their teachers then we had. There doesn't seem to be any barriers between them.
It seems to work.
I can only remember having that type of relationship with one teacher. That was Bob Nelson (Stag). During the week he was your teacher and over the weekends he was just one of the guys.
It was great seeing Bob and Sue at the reunion.
Some of the guys that post here will remember the help Bob gave us that very special weekend on Key Biscayne. I'm sure Garcia remembers.

Jackie:

While having dinner with Kris, were you exposed to a mosquito bite? You know the West Nile thing these mosquitos are carrying may cause people to hallucinate.
What the heck are you talking about;
"A WHITE HOARSE" I worte A WHITE HORSE.
If you need explanation on "The White Horse he rode in" ask Gaston, he probably has a tale for that one too.
We missed you the other night, maybe we'll see you at Hooters soon.

Manny

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/11/2004 05:55:07 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
I guess some of us are more educated than others , so Manny I won't hold it against you for not being imformed about happenings in life ...I was lucky to have been giving the gift of remembering the things that happend in my life.... " White Horse" Antonio Maceo wrote a white horse ....Learned that in school at La Salle de Miramar in Cuba as a child ....I don't know of any other white horse....It you all have the need to pick on something or someone ,please pick your nose instead.....

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/11/2004 06:40:20 By Manny Garcia 68
Gaston:

Maseo was that guy worked at Tropicana, the late show, some people called him Superman, or was it Tamacun. Any way; he did not ride a white horse he use to drive an H2, yellow if remember correctly.
So get your story staright.

Manny

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/11/2004 10:02:48 By Terrence W. Grant
Manny.....you are correct my friend...yes he was called Superman...I saw the show several times and I believe Herb did also...

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/11/2004 10:33:08 By john Scopetta 68
Many, sorry about the farce with the hoarse is the Cuban accent, after all I was the first Cuban born in Hialeah and if you can figure that one out you are a better man than I I don't know what the horse sh..t story is all about but it must be a good one. kind of like the one you made up about Janet being the drink lady and Cielo something about standing her up and starting the Key Biscayne fight because Meg was cheating on you with Steve Bass is all that True??? I also forgot to mention the indirecta at Gaston about his age or something like that. Tell us more as your memory exits from the fogs of time.
Sorry Terry but Herb would have been about eight in 58 I don't think he got to see superman and you probably dint see him either since I read somewhere that it was made up for the
Godfather movie and it never really existed. Unless you were looking in the mirror at the Hotel National.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/12/2004 06:13:11 By Terrence W. Grant
I'm only quoting Herb as earlier he had nicknamed me Superman and I asked why and he said because of that show....I did see a show several times where there were girls, donkey and this black guy named Superman (well endowded)

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/12/2004 07:54:13 By john Scopetta 68
Gaston and I are correct, Maseo was a mulatto revolutionary that led the Cuban revels to victory against Spain at the turn of the century with a little help from Teddy and the US Marines. Terry as I thought, You are Superman!!! we always suspected it but could never prove it. We love you my good friend. Check out the word Jamonero in Cuban dialect.

Tal vez deberemos llamarlo el viagraero!

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/12/2004 12:45:25 By Terrence W. Grant
For the first time I detect some computer fraud...there is a listing today 8/12 under my name Terrence W. Grant that says Herb nicknamed me Superman...he did do that back in 2003 but I didn't do the listing of today....whoever is handling my Public Relations it is appreciated but now I have to live up to my image which is impossible unless of course I can locate "George of Belize" doctor friend.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/12/2004 10:23:57 By John Dannelly 1957
I don't know if the "Superman" story from Havana is true or not but the story has been around since way before the "Godfather" movie. I first heard the "Superman" tale around 1956 or 1957.

I am having more trouble understanding the writing of the brothers from Cuba than their speech...
Is it "wrote a White Horse (a book)" or "rode a white horse (an animal)"? I'll have to remember to have one of you guys explain this to me at the next BNO.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/13/2004 08:49:54 By Terrence W. Grant
Thank you John for being our official HISTORIAN...also if you note one of our brothers wrote White Hoarse...which of course could be a medical condition...and most of them have a condition called....bullshittossis...

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/13/2004 09:00:31 By Terrence W. Grant
Isn't it good that we have "the ole guys" around to set the facts straight...does anyone remember the ferry boat to Havana back in the 50's? How about Cubana Airlines where every pilot was a jockey and wore 50 mission hats and tended to bounce a few times on landing.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/13/2004 10:07:35 By john Scopetta 68
To clarify the statement once and far all there is no f..king white horse is a joke like what color was George Washington's white horse and some people can't figure it out. We use Maceo since he also rode a white horse when we ask the question.
There was no live sex act's in Cuba that I can assure you there was everything else but no live sex acts.
The superman story is a mith and only that. Probably created after one to many Cuba Libres in the streets of Havana in the 1950s.
The main reason you can't understand our jokes is because they are insider stories that happened in the late sixties and you guys were not there. The last time I looked this is the late sixties thread correct???

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/13/2004 10:40:39 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, a Ham can be many thing depending how it is placed in ones usage of the word in a sentence or matter of speech ...(1)"Ham" The thigh of the hind leg of a certain animal specially a "hog"...(2)A licensed amateur radio operator....(3)A performer who overacts or exaggerates.....John is none of those......Now a "Jamonero" is a widely used term by Cubans ,in describing a person who takes it upon himself to get a free feel when given the opportunity to grab , touch or feel with certain gusto the body or any part of the opposite sex and getting away with it and not get into trouble.....for that, many of us , could qualify for being consider Jamoneros....

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/13/2004 06:09:49 By Manny Garcia 68
Gaston:

You hit the nail right on the head, Herb is a JAMONERO, he got an elegal feel in the Bahamas and messed around with someones dinner, except it was not a hog;(I'll give him that much).

Jackie; you're still confused about the white horse, it was not Maseo or Washington that rode the horse, it was SUPERMAN as he satepped out on stage "at the Copa, Copa Cabana The Hottest Club Down In Havana", and the women would come out behind the horse in a single file, and help SUPERMAN off the WHITE HORSE, and then they would do all kinds of nasty things on satge; (not to the WHITE HORSE of course...of course!!!) So please let the WHITE HORSE GO.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/13/2004 11:27:49 By john Scopetta 68
I give up on the stinking white horse, I am hoarse from talking about the f..kin horse. And yes confused as I can be. Manuelito what did poor Herb do to this Bahama mama that has remained in you're feeble little mind all this time. We are all brothers here let's hear the 411 on the subject. Gaston that is an excellent description of Jamonero, could it not be used to describe the governor of California??? The Tropicana was a Las Vegas style review more like the Sigfield and Roy show. I don't believe the Cuban Mothers would allow the showing of live sex act's on the stage even if it was tourist only. Many when are you going to get permission o go fishing with us???

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/14/2004 11:31:46 By Manny Garcia 68
Jackie:

I can go fishing any time, as long as it is in the US. I will be taking care of the WHITE HORSE for the next few days. Let's play Golf.
I'll be busy for the next few days, my son blew out his right knee on the first day of practice and we're waiting for the MRI results. It's either a partial patelar dislocation or torn ACL, both of which will require surgury, we're hoping it's just a bad sprain.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/14/2004 04:33:49 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Manny, I thought you were a legal "Alien" .... How come you can't go fishing outside the U.S.A ??????? Let us know about BIG RED and how it all goes for him....

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/17/2004 05:39:18 By Herb Stebbins(68)
Well, it just might be better to tell the story then to listen to Garcia ramble on an on. I can always blame it on my youth.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/18/2004 10:31:15 By Herb Stebbins(68)
John S, refresh my memory. Why didn't Arturo Hoyo get in Stags? He was liked by everyone.
Lets make sure he's at the next event.
When you see him again please tell him that I said hello.
Gaston, wasn't Arturo in Tikes with us at SMJHS?

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/18/2004 10:54:36 By john Scopetta 68
His parents were not in favor or maybe it was his girlfriend Karen Anthony that he went with for many years??? Unlike the rest of us he actually considered his parents wishes. Good kid. One of the closes friends I have ever had.

Wanted to let everyone know that I spoke with Jeran recently. She called to ask about our safety from the hurricane. She is doing great, just purchased a vacation home in Longboat Key, so we should be able to see more of her.

Kay, I have no idea what the Hell Nights were like when you graduated, but I have fond memories of mine.
I doubt that anyone in there 50's could tolerate the abuse without suffering life altering consequences.
I do remember the morning after when I got up. I went to the bathroom to view the damage. It was ugly but worth it.
I'll never forget the pride and happiness I felt the following day.
The great friendships and memories will last for ever.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/23/2004 07:31:17 By Kay Spitzer
Herb,
For all the right reasons. I never attended a Hell Night but from what I heard they were no picnic and in some instances stupidly dangerous. I'll let the guys elaborate on the subject.
Kay

Kay, you really don't want to know .....in my year and after it became a totally bad deal....and it became harder as the generations tried to top the years before.....I was not an angel I did beat the crap out of the new guys ,thanks to my brother and cousin who were sadist and known for it,I got even and enjoyed it ,,,,,,,,ask Roberto Suarez and his class of 69-70......

"FOOD FOR THOUGHT".....Should we or not...........Quote; 8-18-04 We are going to have to change the Constitution and the by-laws of Stags Club(Honorary Members)..Herb Stebbins Class of (68)....8-18-04 Great idea. why don't we take in new members and continue, Stags tradition into the future John Scopetta class of (68)......What do you think??????....

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/27/2004 00:15:00 By john Scopetta 68
I think it will largely depend on the evolution of the relationships that are leading the re emergence of Stags Club. The organization had been Idle for thirty some years and with the wisdom and curiosity of some senior members of the group it has come back to life after thirty dormant years to allow for it to slip in to obscurity would be a real shame in my opinion. I for one would be proud to see it continue through the ages as something really special and meaningful to so many.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/27/2004 07:05:31 By Manny Garcia 68
I vote for the WHITE HORSE, he should be an honorary member, that way Jackie can get to know him. Herbs Bahama Mama should also be considered, let me know what you guys think.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/29/2004 03:37:44 By Terrence W. Grant
Manny I agree with the White Horse and John and if you saw or heard about the act...the horse also had a very small but passive role...as far as hell night is concerned...the MEN of the 50's had it just as tough as the BOYS of the 60's and 70's..we just didnt brag or complain about it....remember back then we were in transistion from TDT to Stags and had to keep a very very low profile about Hell night. By the way a fore arm pick both front and back at the same time was the same in the 50's as the 60's, same as licks, or strenght of tabasco sauce, cow manure.

I'm against new members as it was very special to go thru the pledging process and the true meaning of brothhood at the time and at present....instead of getting new members the guys should get to know brothers of different ages..I'm really glad that I've had the chance to get to know Gaston, John S, and Steve B...this was done by attending the different outings

Also I'm using this site to try to get my sense of humor and wit back on track...as you know I love to bust ass especially at the expense of the guys of the late 60's...

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/30/2004 05:26:47 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, you are right the hell nights had a lot in common thru out the years,,,,except "COW MANURE" ...in our days the wagon trains were no longer around and the only cow we were aware of was the one on the label of the milk cartons ...sorry we missed out on all that fun..-...

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 08/30/2004 10:06:20 By Terrence W. Grant
Getting back to the White Horse and Superman...me being in the legal profession I like to base my comments on documents produced by the other side(late 60's guys)...on a thread on this site Phase 1 dated 6/25/03 at 7:09pm...which infers Superman status by a member of the late 60's contigent.

Re: Class of 66-70's (Phase II)Posted at 09/03/2004 10:20:05 By john Scopetta 68
Janetsita, good luck with Frances hope everything turns out well I think is going north of you but you might still get some pretty strong winds. This whole thing with the Hurricanes has been incredible, and they keep coming off the coast of Africa like there was no tomorrow.
Gaston you got your own storm how did you manage that??? I have always wanted a John or a Jackie but nothing. Maybe we can get a tropical storm Manny or Herby.
When is the next BNO? I am still pushing for the Hard Rock Cafe at the Casino, or the bar that Larry suggested in the center of the casino.

Gaston, I know how Ivan got his, that man can move mountains in Washington for him to get a storm is no big task. I think Terry has been named. But maybe Ivan can confirm if there has ever been a John or Jackie I would even settle for the female version of my name. That is what made me so tough it was like the song a boy name Sue. With Jackie and Escopeta I had no choice but to defend my honor. You guys did not respond on the BNO any plans???
