Re: 1971Posted at 06/03/2003 08:12:55 By Johnny Gibson
Hi Pam,

This is John Gibson's sister Susie. His family calls him Johnny. I am sending this e-mail to you as he is traveling. Last night I picked his brain (did pretty good for a 50 year old - HA!) and sent a list of names to Gaston Ruiz. Johnny mentioned that John Chrisso was the keeper of the scrapbook(s). I also gave this information to Gaston.

When I asked Johnny about remembering any of the Sweethearts /Sponsors your name was the first one he mentioned. So, if you get a chance I'm sure he would like to hear from you.

I am going to be coming to the reunion as our older brother - Larry is a Brother of Stags, our sister Cielo was a Sponsor and then there is Johnny. I am the only one in the family that was not part of this wonderful group of people but I do feel a part of because my family was so involved I feel a connection.

I look forward to meeting you!

Susie Gibson

I am so excited to hear from and about the guys in Stags who not only helped me out but literally saved my life. That night I was on my way to a Stags function going over the Rickenber Causeway (Key Biscayne bridge) and was in involved in an auto accident. Three or four cars of Stags guys were behing me. Immediately after the crash, the guys helped save my life on the bridge. Also, they assisted my family with love, compassion and helped us all through my recovery. There will always be a place in my heart for the brothers of Stags. Thanks guys and remember we are still number #1. May God's blessing be with you always.

Love,

Pam (Drake) Holmes

Yes, I did just marry John (Johnny) Holmes, former Wheel club President. Looking forward to seeing you all.

PS. Ralph Tezanos, pulled off the door and helded my mouth open so I wouldn't die. Thank you again and again....All of You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's about 5 hours South of me. This is going to be a fun time - to meet the brothers who came before and the ones that came after. See you at the reunion. Semper Fi Sarge

Guys , give us some input about your times . Get involved . Why did Stags stop??? What went on back then ?? You all were the last . Let all of us know.

Re: 1971Posted at 06/13/2003 10:10:52 By Denise DeBerard Roussel
Gaston - I tried to research just that ...why did Stags disappear? Apparently all sororities and frats were dissolved because of lack of interest. Things like school clubs and school sports became more important. Several of my age group stayed and became conselors and/or coaches at Gables and that was their conclusion. It wasn't just the clubs we were involved in but all of the clubs. I guess everything has its era. It was a wonderful time to be a female... Stags brother were always there to defend your honor..I could only wish my daughter could know guys like you.. it was a very special time and I consider myself very lucky to be sweetheart of a club made of up men who defended not only Stags honor but our honor. - Denise

Re: Stags 1973 - 74Posted at 06/14/2003 01:05:20 By Carlos Solis
it became very difficult to recruit new members
in 1994, interest in clubs was low,to much drugs
i guess.also we were pretty pickie who we wanted
in the club.Stags was always Known for having the most popular guys in school also the toughest
i think our standards were preety high and not enough of Those guys were around
finally 1974 was the last year
everyone went there own way,

Re: 1971Posted at 06/15/2003 01:27:20 By John Dannelly, 1957
Gaston, I guess American Legion Post #98 had a number of the brothers playing for them for several decades. Before my days Stags from the early 1950s played for #98. When I was playing, 5 or 6 Stags played for the Gables Post.

Re: 1970-1971Posted at 06/15/2003 08:26:31 By John S. Holmes/Pam (Drake) Holmes
I am assuming this is the same Nelson who was in BUCKS at Ponce and then Stags at Gables. Am I right? This is John Holmes. I believe I was in 7th and you were in 9th and we were in BUCKS together. I was dating Cindy Rose and then eventually Gaston Ruiz won her heart and now I am married to a BUCKS sweetheart (68') and STAGS sponsor (71'). Her mothers side of the family are from Puerto Rico (old San Juan). They are are in the electronics business and were the pioneers in bringing Panasonic to the island. Oh, by the way, my wife is Pamela (Pam) Holmes. Used to be DRAKE.

John , im not the carlos that married lola
yes george portela was in stags , and in 1973
we had about 30 to 40 stags members ,
they use to call me Chiqui i grew up in Pastorita
sw 9th st & 35th ave , i was suppose to join the
athenians but instaed became a proud stags

Re: 1971Posted at 06/16/2003 03:25:01 By Carlos Villalta
Hello Gaston Ruiz,

Yes,my older brother George did play ball
for Post 98 as did I.I think the coach was Sal
Perretta.I believe the gloves back then were the
four finger type.I signed with the L.A.Dodgers
in 1972 and never showed-up.What was I smoking?
I think thats why Pam could not find anyone from
the class of 71.We are the "Lost Boys".

Re: 1971Posted at 06/16/2003 05:34:37 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Carlos , say hello to your brother for me . Those were good times . We had a few Stags on the team back then. Coach Peretta son, Pete was also in Stags during my older brothers years and played on the team.

Re: 1971Posted at 06/16/2003 06:36:28 By Caleb Estes
Gaston. Speaking of your older brother, when is he going to get his address on the brothers list? Does he know were any of the other brothers from 65 are?

Re: 1971Posted at 06/16/2003 07:15:00 By john Scopetta
Carlos, I dint think you looked like the other guy, but I think Lola used to hang out with my brothers, George Scopetta, group, her name was Lola Gutierez. Athenians, I think originated in Pastorita, most of the members in my years where the same age so I don't think they had a long history. Many of the members in my year 68 were good guys and some would have made good Stags brothers. You definitely made the right choice, because I heard that the Athenians became almost a gang in the later years. I still stay close with a few of their members, some of them you might know, Eddie Merlano, George Suarez, (Negro) Lazaro Rivera, Bobby Guell, before his death was a very close friend of mine. I was very good friends with two of Ralph's Tezanos brothers, Luis and Arturo. I also know Josie she is a real sweetheart not only a Stags sweetheart. ...take care my Brother,....... John

Re: 1971Posted at 06/16/2003 07:50:47 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Caleb, my brother Gonzalo (65)will be with us at the reunion . He is always traveling all over the place , but he will for sure be with us.

Re: 1971Posted at 06/16/2003 08:28:46 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Carlos , I have to agree with john. The seniors from all the clubs at gables in 1968 would have made good Stags brothers . (with the exception of a few) The seniors in Athenians, Wheel and Chinks all got along plus most of us grew up together. There was mutual respect . It was the younger guys that brought trouble upon us all. At my wedding my court was representative of those years . My best man Stags the rest Wheel,Chinks, Athenians,(OOPS) Cresents.

Re: 1971Posted at 06/26/2003 11:07:03 By Pam Drake
Hi Pam:
I know where Joe lives, I don't see him that often, but will try to go by his home, to let him know about the reunion.
I will be out of town during the week of August 7th, but will try and get a group together to go to the July 11th gathering.
Once again it is great to hear from everyone, I am really looking forward to seeing some old friends and I hope that we make this a tradition, much in the way that Stags was a tradition many years ago.
In answer to Gaston R's and Denise's pondering as to why did the clubs fade away, I think that in the mid 70s, drugs had a lot to do with it, I could be wrong, but it is just a thought.
Love you all, Paul

Re: 1971Posted at 06/26/2003 11:11:00 By Pablo Acosta

Paul,
Thank you for all the info. about Joe if you see him tell him I'd love to see him. He knew my Dad well. Sorry we will miss you on the 8 &
9TH. Stay in touch always, We should have a party often. We all had such great memories of high school. You guys Bucks and Stags were such gentleman. You guys spoiled us. Thank you....... Always Pam

Hey Paul, I am so sorry to hear you won't make it on the reunion weekend. I was looking forward to seeing you since it has been YEARS. Do you or anyone else know what happened to Andy Bretz? I saw his name on the deceased list, what happened? Denise

Re: 1971Posted at 06/27/2003 06:26:47 By Carlos Villalta
Hello Denise,
It's great to hear from you. I have many good memories of you as far back to Shenandoah JR HIGH.
"Good news", Vance Bretz a.k.a. (Andy Bretz) is alive and well. I got this info from Super Sleuth and brother, George Scopetta. Professor Bretz, sorry
if I blew you're cover, but now we can put away our hankies.
Hey George, I'm having lot's of fun reading the
threads from the class of 68' and before. I don't remember us fighting that much,
but it seems we had a party every weekend. Didn’t you and I along with Juan "Papa" Fernandez, Luis Ortega, Ralph Tezanos, beat the "crap" out of those bad boy's of
Athenians behind Lum's? I think Gaston Gonzalez was also there. Soon thereafter we took a trip to the Key's.

Re: 1971Posted at 06/27/2003 11:13:16 By Denise DeBerard Roussel
Carlos - I wondered when I saw the Vance Bretz, how many Bretzs graduated in '71? I can't wait to see you guys! I think I going to wear my Gents sponsor disc too. If you read the '68 message board they all seem to be from Ponce and Bucks. But alot of the guys in Stags were from Shenandoah and were in Gents. Do you know what happened to Pepe Saavedra? Denise

Re: 1971Posted at 06/28/2003 05:42:47 By Carlos Villalta
Denise,
Last time I saw "Pepe" was about seven years ago. Remember we used to come over you're house and Max (German Shepard dog) would scare us to death. I think, thanks to Max, we were always on our best behavior. I think Julio ( Julin ) Manguart, might know about Saavedra or I’ll ask Scopetta

Re: 1971Posted at 06/28/2003 06:09:23 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Carlos, Pepe saavedras #305-671-0457Have a some one from your time contact him.

Re: 1971Posted at 06/29/2003 01:21:00 By Denise DeBerard Roussel
Thanks Gaston, I called today and got a message, sounds like it was his office. I told him about the website and the reunion in the message so I hope he responds.
Carlos, Those were fun days, it seems I could count on you guys to stop by every Sunday afternoon after the beach! Remember waiting for all the traffic to clear because we had the old bridge that opened every half hour? Good ole Max, he liked Julio but otherwise he was suspicious of every one else, especially Pepe! Last time I saw you was on the Key in front of the 7-11. Probably 25 years ago. I can't wait to see you and your wife in August...my scariest dog now is a Saint Bernard named Sophia, the only thing to fear is the slobber! Denise

Carlos , thanks . I'am glad Andy is alive and well. Pepe I have not seen for a long time ,its been a while since Arturo Tezanos would take his car away and I would take Raul Gutierrez car and race them down Dixie Hway. They did have the nicest and fastest cars back then.

Carlos

I won't know if We are going until the last minute. If I don't make it, I hope we don't have to wait another 32 years to get together. We should all get together more often now that the Stags list is getting longer by the day.

Re: 1971Posted at 07/26/2003 12:16:45 By Pam Drake Holmes
Rick,
Thank you? I think we are all so blessed for the friendship we had and how we will always be able to stay in touch, becasue of this wonderful site. Thank you (and to everyone else)who has helped to make this possible......It's awesome. It really is a miracle!
I can't wait to see everyone, but please its whats inside that makes us who we are not the outside, some of the past 33 years have been a bear, and sure hasn't helped my looks, but it sure has made me a better person. I think it is also called maturity...........

See you soon!

Love Pam

I worry about everybody north of Miami and on the west coast. BTW- there is not a Publix here in the mountains of east tennessee, or I would bring you some brew. 00-000 Jerry

I know this is planning ahead but supposedly the Key is having a big reunion next July 4. You might want to go, ya'll spent enough time on the key to qualify.

GASTON, DON'T FORGET A DESIGNATED DRIVER, JUST MAKE SURE IS NOT VILLATA.

Re: 1971Posted at 11/22/2004 03:34:15 By Carlos Villalta
Hey Rick, that's Villalta as in definitely not a good choice for a designated driver on BNO.Last one I attended, David Steiger followed me home to make sure I got there alright,if that wasn't a sign of brotherhood then was is? Thank's again David.Rick it was good talking to you again the other night, I think ?????.

Ricky, are you planning to be at Stags Night Out on 8/6? If so you belong on the Stags Night Out thread beating the drums to get the 70's boys there. And get them to let us know on the thread or reply to Dannelly letter, the thread is best. Your the man, make it happen!

I am glad to see you all had a great time. I was told about it by Gibson, but was unable to attend do to a family crisis.

Boris, Pablo, Carlos, John, etc. look like they are having a ball.

I am glad to see Ignacio was there, last time we spoke was when he was with the Gables Fire Dept.
