Herb, your name and reputation came up several times during the Flamingo fishing outing. We will be pleased when the BNO schedule and your work schedule are not in conflict.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/16/2004 06:25:00 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Bob, I'm honored. My own Thread! What more could a guy want? This doesn't mean that I won't be getting a X-mas present does it?
Bob, post your idea on a BNO up there. I think you will get a good response.
John, I don't know what those guys told you but if it came out after drinking massive amounts of Vodka, then I wouldn't believe it.
I've not had a chance to catch up but hope you guys had a wonderful time fishing. I can't help but believe that the 60's guys were triumphant!
Did Terry make it through in one piece?
I really miss you guys and will do my best to make the next gathering.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Herb

Herb, how much did you pay Bobby to start the thread????? Love to see you buddy , we miss you.....I think John D. did have to many Vodkas...and a lot of Shorty's ......you know the 60's rule , don't believe anything these 50's farts write..... the have a memory loss must of the times anyways.....if you notice the pictures, they always start with them and end with them... Jim only posts the ones he likes ,not the real ones.....but thats ok we still know , we are the force to deal with ... they will eventually come around and admit it....

I do admit.... 50's are numbero uno!!!Hey Herb, you've got to join us next time. We're having too much fun. Do what I did, just quit.Don't let work get in your way.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/17/2004 07:38:01 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Gaston, it only cost me a few hundred bucks. A small price to pay for fame.
Marie, the older I get, the more I get attached to these critters. Sometimes I think I'd be happier on a farm. How is your goose doing?
Don, as far as quitting goes, that's a moot point. This outfit I work for will be out of business by the end of March of 05. Then you guys won't be able to get rid of me.

In the early 1960's while I was in St. Louis I also became familar with the World Wrestling Federation at St Louis was it's home. Sam Muchnick was the Executive Director and he introduced me to Lou Thez (World Champ in the 50's). Lou and I became friends and I helped him promote his dude ranch in Scotsdale, AZ...Herb it is my understanding that you also had some "ring" connections and that you actually participated in an event in the squared circle in the Miami area. Congratulations...did you win your event or did you put the fans TO SLEEP.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/20/2004 07:37:23 By john scopetta 68
I was there at dinner key auditorium and witnessed first hand as one of the wrestlers of the era famous for his sleeper hold put Herbie down for a few minutes that probably caused brain cell damage and today would warrant a substantial claim. It was not Eddie Gram or the Great Malenco or Whahoo McDaniel the fighting chief, does anyone remember who had the great sleeper hold????

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/20/2004 11:08:04 By Bob Ajhar
JOHN,
JIM PERPICH AND I WENT TO WRESLING MATCH IT WAS QUITE INTERESTING.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/20/2004 12:33:44 By john scopetta 68
Bob I remember that day very clear or at least it seams that way, we didn't believe it and when they did it to each other it probably was fake but he did put Herbie down I even recall were we were sitting on the West side of the auditorium.
A second incident I remember is the night Jim Morrison of the Doors pulled out his thing on stage and the Miami police rushed the stage and arrested him. I was there with George and Janet and had Ruthie on my shoulders. Flash back time!!!!!

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/20/2004 07:31:23 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
If you want wrestling imformation, get Edgar on the site........He will give anyone a lesson about it.... Edgar, Alan Washington and I would spend the summer on ocean drive at his Grandfathers apartment and go see wrestling religiously at the miami beach convention center...boy this sure brings back some memories.....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/20/2004 08:30:11 By Injay
Terry,
I see you didn't get the correct response to the infamous night at Dinner Key and the sleeper hold on the then 18+ inch neck of Herb!!
If those that were present remember, the first person from our group to get the sleeper hold was Andy winthers who we thought was paid to go down. The largest and most powerful Herb went into the ring with the Great Joe Scarpa, king of the sleeper hold and much to our suprise, put Herb down!! Herb, please comment on your thoughts and what you remember from that historic night!!

Gastonnnnnnnn comments about hanging around Miami Beach to see wrestling brings back memories of 5th street gym..where i used to go as a kid...knew a man that turned out to be the dean of Boxing History...Hank Kaplan... was at his house a few years ago off Kendall Drive..he had a museum of boxing on his property..he did a yearly special for HBO..dont know if still alive..those of you who are boxing nuts might look him up...he's in his 90's by now if alive

Oh Boy! Now here's a topic I like talking about.
Do you guys remember turning on the Black and White T.V and seeing Gordon Solie promote the South Florida Wrestling events from Sarasota?
The names that come to mind----Dusty Rhodes, The Great Boris Malenko (I know Kimel remembers these famous words "let me tell you this Gordon Solis"), Jack Brisco, Dory Funk Jr., Red Basteen, Johnny Valentine and Eddie Graham.
Remember the Holds? The Figure 4 leg lock, The full

Sorry for the DOUBLE CLUTCH, I got too excited, so let me continue.
The Full Nelson, The Spinning toe Hold, and did I mention the Figure 4 Leg Lock? and the Famous SLEEPER HOLD. John S., Johnny Valentine made it famous and yes it does cause brain damage.
John S, Ajhar and Injay I remember that night so well. Injay, it might have been Joe Scarpa that put the Sleeper on me but I vaguely remember some guy with the last name of Carpenter. Who knows.
I can remember coming out of it and feeling someone punching me in the middle of my back.
Terry what I felt the next few days was far more extreme then any hangover at the Goose!!
How times have changed, today they wouldn't think of doing such a thing in front of a live audience.
I'll probably catch some Hell for this but here we go. Kris Kimel and I always had a love for Pro-Wrestling, so much so that after his first marriage to Judy he exited the Church with his new bride and before God and the World, put the Sleeper Hold(without extreme pressure) on his new wife. I have the pictures to prove it but will save them till later when they will provide a source of income to me when he runs for the Governor of Kentucky.

What about some of the mock up wrestling matches beer can beach on the key after a few brews, the flying drop kick, I wish we had pictures like the counts do on their web site that beach were the Towers condominium is now has some great stories to tell.

OK!!! who dove off the old Cutler Dam and who jumped ?????.

The girls were just as bad Janet and her crew would toilet paper peoples houses all the time.

Hrebie getting you put to sleep I believe was Joe Scarpa because Johnny Valentine was the pretty boy????. You went up with about five other guys and he laid you all out one by one, we thought you had faked it.

United Scores Three Large Corporate Deals To Help Sales
By XXXXXXXXXXX

FYI Hermano:

United recently finalized three major corporate contracts worth $130 million over the next five years, which will go a long way to help the airline's revenues as it struggles to win financing and emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

It typically takes months of negotiations to conclude major corporate contracts, but Graham Atkinson, senior VP-worldwide sales and alliances, told employees in a message that his team inked the three deals in the last few weeks. "I think each of these speaks volumes, really, for the credibility that the company continues to build with some very discriminating travel buyers," he said. "These people have a lot of options; they're very focused on procurement, and they don't make these decisions lightly."

Because the agreements are confidential, Atkinson would not name the three corporations that inked the deals with United. However, has learned that one is a brand-new account for the airline and one is the renewal of a long-standing corporate relationship. The third is a global Star Alliance deal with ChevronTexaco, where United CEO Glenn Tilton previously worked as a top executive.

ChevronTexaco signed a five-year deal for the Star Corporate Plus program, which lets corporations contact the sales teams of any Star member carriers to work out a plan "that takes advantage of the alliance's collective network and service benefits and allows them to book and manage corporate travel seamlessly." Star also touts the single point of contact for the company, one agreement and one report that covers all travel on Star partners.

Atkinson reported he recently visited Denver and Los Angeles and participated in two of the airline's regular "customer advisory group meetings," where the airline invites top corporate customers to provide feedback on the product. "People are giving us really very high marks for the execution on the front line," Atkinson said. "It was very heartening to hear the fact that, despite everything we are going through internally, their level of satisfaction is so high."

He also reported that the airline in recent days invited several of its top corporate accounts to its Chicago headquarters to discuss "our cost of sales initiatives and our unfolding sales distribution landscape." Following the two sessions and hearing the feedback, Atkinson believes United is "very much aligned with many of our top customers in terms of the efficiencies we need to make in this area, which will help us not only to realize substantial savings, but will give our corporate accounts a much better deal in the process."

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/22/2004 04:38:56 By Manny Garcia 68
Hey Herb:

How much did it cost you to have your own site? You never did answer that question. I'll make my contribution to a Herb story.
I am sorry I missed that night at Dinner Key, I most have been working. However; I did not miss the meeting at BA house where we chaced you up and down the street with a frog. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time, you kept telling us you were going to kick our asses, but would not slow down.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/22/2004 05:15:20 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Ivan, thanks. I don't know where that came from but that is good news. I don't mean to be negitive but it might be too little too late.
When you look at the concession package requested of the pilots alone, it seems overwhelming. That amounts to 191 Mil. annually not counting the other labor groups. This outfit is going down the same road as PanAm but with a stronger conviction. I guess it's not the event but how you percieve it. Thanks again.
Manny, I remember that meeting at Ajhars. I had bad dreams about it for months!
I'd rather swim in a pool, full of sharks then even look at a frog. Thanks for the memories.
By the way, DON'T GET ANY IDEAS.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/22/2004 06:31:41 By Janet Eaton
O.k. since my name has been mentioned twice on this incredible, one man show thread, it is time for me to comment. The BEST paper job I ever participated in (with Peggy Shaffer) was Herb's house. We were all very afraid of Herb's dad. He was known as a strict diciplinarian, so we knew we needed to be very careful and very quiet. We did get caught, his dad came out but we had finished by then and were just leaving. So we got away!!! You couldn't even see the house because of the paper. Secondly, John, I'm so happy you remember the night at the Image with Jim Morrison. My kids think I am the coolest for being there and it has been a story growing up that all their friends are told. That night was alot of fun!!! We had alot of fun nights together. As for papering, well , I was known as the queen of paper jobs and that was my way of raising hell.

Stebbins:

What ever do you mean? "DON'T GET ANY IDEAS". I was just sharing some fond memories of our high school years. I think the brothers would like to know the BAHAMA MAMA story. This kind of died with the white horse, but let's put it back up for discussion.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/22/2004 07:42:38 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Herb , Edgar and I were regulars on what it seems every friday night in the early 60's......Wahoo Mc Daniels, The Assasins, The Kentuckians, Haystack Calhoon, John Rambo ( the real deal),Johnny Valentine,Gorilla Mansoon,Jimmy Snuka ...those were great times Edgar would get right in their faces as we always got ring side seats ....The great Malenko...I got so excited one time I tried to jump one of the Assasins...BAD MOVE ..landing on those metal chairs hurt like hell... I was ushered out and sat outside the convention center for over an hour......My Dad gave me a bigger beating than any wrestler could have given me....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/23/2004 07:11:08 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Gaston, there's a name I forgot. Jimmy (Superfly) Snuka. He was quite the showman.
I had forgotten about Edgar being such a scholar of the game till you brought it up. He was a Wrestling fanatic. As John Scopetta mentioned we used to have mock wrestling matchs. I can remember having one with Edgar. Edgar had these things all scripted out, just like the real thing. We would put the arm bar on one another with all the facial expressions to go along with it including the verbal rhetoric.
I think if Edgar wouldn't of had such a passion for baseball and weighted about 200 lbs. more, then he might have known today as the "American Dream".
Janet, I'll never forget it. What a job you did. If I hadn't of been so preoccupied with the listening to the BeachBoys I might have heard you.
I can't remember cleaning all that toilet paper off the house but I'm sure it took a while.
Terry, you spoke of the Von Eric's. What a talented family. His sons were great too. If memory serves me right both of the sons passed away at an early age.
Terry, before Garcia tells his "version" of the pig story (and I know he will), I will tell mine. Maybe later today.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/23/2004 12:12:34 By Janet Eaton
I saw Edgar last weekend. He is doing well. He was a great help to me when I took my mom and dad to Edgar's place of business to see their future resting site. It helps to have good friends when it matters.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/23/2004 03:52:45 By Manny Garcia 68
Terry:

I am going to wait for Herb to tell us about the MAMA, but I firmly believe that after that incident is when Herb became such a lover of wild things, as he is today. The Bahamas will never be the same.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/23/2004 06:12:57 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Terry, here goes the story of the pig.
Back in 1973 after the Bahamas got their Independence, my boss at the time, who owned the Bimini Island Yacht Club and Marina threw a big party. Some who attended were Lawton Chiles and some of Lynden Pindling's Cronys. It was a big shindig to say the least.
We were up all night drinking and raising Hell on the North Island. When we returned to the South Island early in the morning we were still wired.
Over breakfast the subject of the Pig came up. As the story goes, it was a large female with an attitude. People that tried to catch her ended up getting bitten and hoofed. You would have thought that someone would have had her for dinner by then but that wasn't the case.
One of the mechanics who I new well suggested a bet. He bet me along with the rest of the crowd that I couldn't catch the pig. I up the bet by adding that I would not only catch the pig but could do it without injuring myself or the pig. So back to the North Island we went.
The pig resided just east of what was then Brown's Marina. She was not hard to find.
It took me about 20 minutes to pin her down. She ran back into some thick bushes, which made her hard to follow.
Once I cornered her, we were both pretty well petered out.
She was so winded that she let me pick her up.
I sat down against a wall and put her on my lap. She was so tired that she didn't even try to run. I was carrying some cigarettes for a friend who didn't have pockets in his shirt. Before the crowd caught up to us I grabbed 2 cigarettes and put one in my mouth and one in the pigs. She didn't move a muscle. Pictures were taken and the rest is history.
One of the other pilots that was there said it wasn't the cigarettes that gave me away but it was the adoring expression on the pigs face.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/23/2004 06:59:26 By Manny Garcia 68
Terry:

OLD MCDONALD HAD A FARM EE..II..EE..II..OH!!
The other pilot that was present on the island sure tells a different tale, (no pond intended). It was brave of brother Herb to tell us about his MAMA IN THE BAHAMAS.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/23/2004 07:30:12 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Manny, was that the same picture I saw in your party last year during X-mas ??????? if it was that PIG sure looked Happy sitting on Herb's lap....Herb , looked pretty Happy himself....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 11/23/2004 08:32:10 By Terrence W. Grant
A similar situation in Bimini..I was there with a group of guys on a batch party...we chartered a plane flown by Bill & Bob Ott...during the event one of our guys (related to Richard Nixon best friend---you get the picture)"borrowed" a sail fish from the dock of a recently arrived charter boat...It was getting dark and he went running off....we paid no attention and continued to party...pretty soon we discovered Billy was missing...we went everywhere and finally found him past out in a grave yard hugging the fish. This was in the early 70's...and we too used to hang out at Browns...Speaking of Pigs...I met a gal in Ocala (holiday Inn bar) who asked me home...we went to the then small airport and she flew her plane to her home in Crystal River...next morning I woke up from a real bender with something licking my hand. I looked down off the bed and it was a large PET HOG....I really thought I was having the DT's so reached up and had a drink of my warm scotch from the night before..........Thru out my life I've been familar with the "swine" population

I won't make the same mistake I made the last time I went to a live event. I had the "Sleeper Hold" put on me and I have never been the same sense.

just being curious why did all the clubs disband i thought they would still be around

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 03/12/2005 12:55:13 By Herb Stebbins (68)
DJ, I believe one of the main resaons was violence. Up until till 1968 we handled things with our fist. From late 1968 clubs started using knives and guns. As some of the guys from 70-73 will attest, there were times when they were pulling buck shot out of there bodies.
Speaking for myself, I stayed away from a few outings in late 1968 that had that type of potential. I didn't have a problem with a street fight but guns and knives were another matter.
DJ, I can remember a night(1968) sitting in my house when another brother with a loaded 32 automatic, waiting for a visit from one of those clubs. Fortunately for both clubs, nobody showed up. Maybe some of the brothers from the 70's could better answer your question.
Have a nice weekend.

Dj...right on my man...when I was associated with the Cards in the '60's I met Sam thru Lou...I traveled to a few smaller cities with him and I helped promote his Dude Ranch in Scottadale...besides being a champ he was a gentleman...and he loved Cigars after a good steak dinner at the Cattlemans in Dallas where he lost to Fritz von

Jim Taudte...strange bird...he was a broker at Young Stovall in MIami where I traded and held my license....never knew he was a Stag until this site was set up (same as Steve Trescott) when I saw Jims name I called him and prompted him to come to reunion...a bland conversation and no committment so I moved on ...... think he lives in the tampa area

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 04/13/2005 07:54:55 By HerbStebbins (68)
Bob, Jim lives on the west coast of Florida. He was a big influence on me getting into Stags. Talk about a guy that could handle himself in street fight. I would put him right up there with Adams, Silver or Holloway. I know that we are not suppose to talk about fights here but I have to share this one with you. I was in 7th grade at South Miami Jr. High School and was walking down the hall with Jim. A older kid, his name was David David (no kidding, his parents should have been shot for giving him that name)pushed Jim and started a fight. Jim wouldn't fight him on school property and told him to meet him at the "Tracks" after school. These were railroad tracks a few blocks away where all the fights took place. This kid David David belonged to a Motorcycle gang called BRS (Bird Road Shits). Jim showed up and so did the whole motorcycle gang. Jim was distroying David when one of the other gang members jumped in. His name was Butch Tuxberry. Jim made quick work of him. After the fight he told me that if you are ever jumped by more then one person, always make an example out of the second person. That advice came in handy when I was in college.
Jim would always preach how important it was to be able to handle yourself in a fight, but only use your fist as a last resort. Great advice.
I was very disappointed that Jim didn't attend the reunion. He did answer one of my emails. By the tone I could tell that he had moved on to other things and this was nolonger a part of his life.

Pauline McMillan just e-mailed me. I haven't talked with her in years. She lives in Tallahassee and I think she would love to hear from people. Say hello to her at pjblankenship2@earthlink.net. And, we'll make her come to the next reunion...

It is wonderful to meet up again with old friends. (not old...dear friends. Old was the wrong word..)

Sure do miss you all!

Chuck, Frank was the older of the two brothers. H e was probably the worse of the two. One of the two ended up getting shot in a bank robbery and is still in jail. You probably made a good choice by steering away from him. Don't think you would look good in Pin Stripes.
Hope your doing well..Herb

Pauline, Its was named So. Miami TYKES,since we all were there at the time...It all started with a challenge from some members of Stags , during a football game at Westlab Elementary......So. Miami only had Tri-Phi ....A number of us were invited to come along by my brother (Stags 1964).... I was approached by Stags members that were in Bucks ,at ponce.....To not back down from the Challenge , TYkes became a reality ...We met at David Fairchild Elementary...put together all those that showed up and the following week , we met Bucks at Westlab,,, Beat them by more than 40 points...All of us became Stags, with the exception of one ......it became the minor leagues for Stags in the years to come....The name was given to me by a friend that played football with Kris Kimel and me at the Gables Youth Center..

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 06/27/2005 08:01:24 By DAVID
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE NAMES OF GIRLS CLUBS IN JR. HIGH SCHOOL, PONCE, SOUTH MIAMI, ETC.?

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 06/28/2005 00:21:02 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Pauline, the football game that Gus spoke about is so vivid in my mind. I remember walking up to them before the game. I think we had quite an intimidating attitude. We were an unknow and they were history at Ponce. From that day forward I knew I was hangin with the greatest group of guys with the greatest chemistry. I just wish that some of the other guys at South Miami could have followed. Juys like Randy Parks and Tommy Mueller.
Well.........Maybe so, the next time around.
Pauline, no excuses.....You have to come to this next Stags get-together in August. I may have an excuse but you better not. If I can't make it I know Bobby will. I know he would love to see you. Call Carol B. and see if you all can make it. So many of the old crowd would love to see you. Herb

Herb,Well said.....After I saw your post and went to work , I started thinking...TYKES....we were together from Elementary...Guys , I went thru a memory moment today and looked back...So. In response to Gaston's posting of 6/24 and Herb's posting of 6/28; ref. Bucks/Tykes football game. Gaston I think you've been smelling too much tree zap all these years, as for Herb, pressurizing and depressurizing several times per day have caused you guys severe brain damage.(intimidating presence my A..)

The only reason you beat us that day, was because the refs. were Joe C. and Gonzalo Ruiz, every call went Tykes way. You can ask Edgar Menenses, he was your QB, and I'll never forget, he was wearing a blue parka with a hood, I was playing line backer and on almost every play I would come over the top and grab him by the hood of the parka and throw him around like a rag doll. So pleassssssssse.... lets keep the BS down to a manageble level.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/14/2005 05:27:53 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Garcia,I would have expected as much. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the spectacular preformance of players on the Tykes team...Right??? I guess when you get your ass kicked it's always easier to blame it on the reffs instead of the "intemadating" football skills of your opponent.
Well, you've upset me so much now, that I will leave it at that!!!
Just remember this.........SUGARS GOT YOUR NUMBER!!!

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/14/2005 01:26:00 By Larry Silver
Dear Brothers who were in Tykes and played a football game with some club but not Bucks in 1964. This must have been some kind of unplanned game with some of our second string players, because I don't have any knowledge of it and I was President part of that year. I think what must have happened is that Bucks was busy with parties and arranged for Check tie to show up, or in the summer when everyone was away,or something else, manny must have tried to do this for the fun of it, please give me more data so that I can completely clear this illusion up. On the other hand I don't think Bucks played much football. My memories were simply parties. Toward the end of 64 we were recruiting other members from other schools, maybe this happened in summer after 64 year ended. Don't mine losing but would like to have had opportunity to play first.
LoL

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/14/2005 02:38:48 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Larry, you would have been in 10th grade , we were in 9th....The only party going on was our VICTORY PARTY after the game ... later after that game Tykes /Gents and Bucks became very close together....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/14/2005 03:26:41 By McMillan-Blankenship
AJHAR, ABOUT THE TRI PHI GAME; IF YOU WERE IN 9TH I WAS IN 8TH AND SO WAS CHUCK LADD ( TRI-PHI AND LATER TDT) AND SAM KENNEDY. KENNEDY ALWAY RODE THOSE HUGE BIKES, (USUALLY PARKED NEXT DOOR AT MY NEIGHBOR PETUNIA'S HOUSE, RIGHT NEXT TO SONTAG AND DONNIE R.). IF THE TRUTH WERE TOLD, SAM KENNEDY WAS B.R.S. AND JUST HUNG OUT WITH T3. AND HE WAS HUGE, EVEN TRIED TO INTIMIDATE THE SPONSORS.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/14/2005 03:39:28 By Larry Silver
Thanks Gaston, that clarifies that historical fact, the year was 65 not 64. The 60's sure has some interesting history compared to present day, huh.
I have great memories of Ponce, real drama, soap opera live time, I think back then kids were more group oriented. Every community had its special place and we were lucky, the cops were more likely to call our parents than arrest for our wild times. Feeling the humid heat today makes you wonder how amazing it was to get along without airconditioning in the schools.Gables High got air right after the year I graduated. The game I remember well, was the Blue Gray game at Ponce, when I was in 8th grade. It was suppose to be touch. The ball was tossed to me behind the line from quarterback, I was running with it when Tom Bailey came flying at me in a tackle and broke my left wrist and dislocated my elbow. Not my day.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/14/2005 04:33:40 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Larry, you are so right about those 60's....So. Miami Jr had the Orange and Green day...The police officers would contact your parents or give you a speech that made you think about the next time....Ponce had Bucks/Ck-ty,,,, Shenandoah had Gents and Dukes and So.Miami had Tykes and Tri -Phi....all three areas were different , but very much alike....those were fun days ....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/14/2005 08:10:13 By Manny Garcia 68
Gaston & Herb:

You guys are dreaming, I guess you could say that South Miami Jr. High was unknown at the time, and you both want to make it bigger than it really was, it's OK... We beat you guys like a drum, the refs. were SOLD!!! and surelly, you did not beat us by 40 points it was a hell of of lot closer than that. So please keep it real.

Larry, could you please set these boys straight?

Give Meneses a call, the last BNO I saw the marks on his neck from the parka.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/14/2005 08:59:59 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Manny . I hate to pop your bubble ...If Billy Petterson was around to speak he tell all how Tykes became Bucks best friend when you all were shitting in your pants at Bk when Dukes and Ck-Ty were about to put a number on you guys...Gents and Tykes came to your rescue....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/15/2005 09:34:02 By Larry Silver
I think you guys are mixing green apples and oranges. Back then playing football was probably more about ego than the game and apparently still is. The way I see the past was that there were individuals within the groups that were more paternal and protective of their fellow brothers and there were others who were maternal and needeed protection. So depending on the configuration of brothers at any given spot and the mixture of the opposition either produced a battle or a huffing and puffing with other groups balancing out the power. Almost sounds like chess or a video game. I think our minds and emotions were being programed in our micro world for the challenges that lay ahead. It appears from the record that the football players at Gables during the 60's could have gone on to be pro's if they had known the kind of rewards society would bestow for that attribute. I know that I got myself into a few corners and it was always nice to have someone you did not expect step up and be your friend. The part left out of this whole football battle is that Gonzalo had fun instigating the meet. I think we all loved the drama and luckily Gaston still has the memory to give us details on the stage that we were all playing in. Of course just like Manny, we all have a little different twist to the actual event.
Of course this is all fun and that is the beauty of being able to kid your friends that you knew back when you had pimples, unfortunately I still do.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/15/2005 11:22:45 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Larry. I agree with you again and you are so right ....We all have a diffent outlook and memory of the past , but all in all they were great times ....I don't remember Gonzalo being the one to put the game together at that time , but again I may be wrong.we at So.Miami had very little knowledge of Clubs having football games....The good thing from all of this , is the friendships that evolved thru those years and later in life....look at us now....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/15/2005 08:18:23 By Terrence W. Grant
Larry...the first part of your message sounded alot like a lawyer...hope to see you on the 6th.

I don't remember football games against the other frats nor gang type fights...I do remember tomato fights and the type of tomato you threw depended on the type of target. The real AH's got green ones after being tied to a tree. The good guys got the rotten ones. I think I would rather be hit with a fist(in fact know I would) than a green tomato traveling at 50+ miles per hour

Lucy has got to be the kindest heart on the planet. I have not met her, but she comes highly recommended from Herb Stebbins. She is not anybody’s cook and bottle washer. Lucy is caring and nurturing. She doesn’t get “sent” here or there. I know your intentions were to keep an upbeat on the thread.

O.K. guys don't forget the girls that were at EVERY tykes, stags football game that there was ever played from 65 through 68!!!!!! I was probably at David Fairchild when tykes was organized! Yes, we do go back. I was always so proud to see "my boys" beat the teams they played. Herb, Gaston, Bobby Injay..., perpich, holloway, edgar, and many more that my 55 year old brain cant remember. I also remember the games with athenians at gables. those were brutal! I remember doing alot of running to get out of the way of the fists that were flying. I loved going to gables and really do remember those days of being so careless and wild.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/30/2005 12:24:39 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Pauline, you're wonderful. Though knowing Terry, he meant no disrespect. I do love your character.
Janet, you are right. We go all the way back to 3rd grade. I still have that Class picture with Mrs. Ford (exuse my spelling).
I stumbled on something you might like. It is the handout for the JG Fashion Show in 1968. I will copy it for you. All of the JG Boys were used for models. There was Billy Holloway,Gaston,Kris Kimel and me. I can't remember, was Sam Vizzini a JG Boy? I'm sure I've left someone else out.
The fashion show was held at "The Stow on the Wold" in Coral Gables. I can remember how embarrassed I was modeling cloths in front of all those women. I will get a copy of it next time I go to storage. After High Scool did you ever hear what happened to Mary Flickenger? I think Mary was in Tallet. She lived on the same lake as Alex Toth and Jim Taudte. Have to run, hope you and your family are doing well.
Herb

Thanks Herb for coming to my defense... I thought I only understood Pauline's slam as against me...sounds like she's harboring other issue's and perhaps should take a "lighten up approach". Don't know the young lady but I will make a donation in her name to the NOW organization...If she is coming to the event in Miami would she bring a tray of cut up veggies....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/30/2005 03:07:41 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Terry, you and I and a lot of others here read from the same sheet of music. We have a thorough understanding of sarcasm and occasionally will display a warped sense of humor.
Sometimes this can appear to others as crossing into disrespect. I know better when it comes to you. Believe me, Pauline is one great Lady and a beautiful person. This website would be missing a lot without her participation.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/30/2005 03:09:20 By Pauline McMillan (Blankenship)
Dear Terry,
Too bad that you took the message that way. It was not my intention to single you out. The women of your yester-years may have left too big an impression on your ego; poor people need to do that: often they have children and elders to care for.

I believe your contribution to NOW would be better spent at the following e-mail address for UNICEF: vlee@unicefusa.org

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/30/2005 05:06:47 By Janet Eaton
Herb,
I think Sam was a JG boy. I remember that fashion show! I would love to see the picture. You all were so handsome. Mrs. Ford, Herb, was 4th grade. Ms. Ivanoff was third. I did not stay in touch with mary flickinger. I do remember WILD parties at her house on the lake. she had an older sister whose name i think was Jennifer. I don't remeber much parental supervision at her house so it made for a great party place. Remember Pauline that Terry is older than we are and comes from a different generation almost. I can assure you that he is a great guy. He helped me when I needed help in the hurricane and went to check on my vacation home for me. Not many people would do that. If he wants to make a donation in addition to unicef I would suggest
hillary clinton's campaign fund.

Thanks to all as I appreciate the kind words...to recap I sent a message headed HERB and implied I could use a home cooked meal (as he knows my personal situation)..I then get slammed by someone I dont know nor was the note addressed too. Then my ego is attacked as well as my girl friends of my generation. I prefer to give my contributions (100's of turkeys for Thanksgiving to charities within the US). I will apoligize to Pauline about my comments about contributing to NOW. I dont know if I could vote for Hillery but I could support another female for President if a qualified one would appear. I'm known for my sense of humor and quick wit and I will not apologize when I told her to lighten up; especially when the note wasn't even addressed to her. Other than that I'm willing to move on

Would prefer Blue cheese... or maybe (French)

Ok , sounds a lot better than before .....no opology is needed just understanding of different points of views...One from a young beautifull female and one from an old fart ...put the both together and we have a happy couple.....

Happy Couple = I'm single...what about Pauline?

Herp, Send me the handout for the JG Fashion Show in 1968. I'll put it on the site and we can all see you pretty little boys all dressed up for fashion. And have a good laugh!

Janet, your right. I get 3rd and 4th grade mixed up sometimes. Probably because I had to repeat 3rd grade. Of all my teachers I have the best memories of Mrs. Salsbury. Think she was my 5th grade teacher. She really took an interest in her students. I wonder what ever happened to the Princpal, Novacowski. I can remember the last time I ended up in his office. It was after "Show and Tell" I brought my Dad's Walther PPK 32 automatic pistol. The kids loved it. It probably would have been a good idea to have cleared that with my Dad. It would have been even a better idea to have taken the bullets out of it.
Mary Flickengers Sister was Jennet. Both were beautiful girls. Your right about the partys at her house. Divorsed parents=wild parties.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/31/2005 12:06:16 By Janet Eaton
o.k. Herb. another lesson on david fairchild. it was not salsbury. it was sulzberg. she taught us fifth grade. she was not only a great teacher but a beautiful woman. nowakowski died. he ran a cotallion club where young girls (sixth grade) would go once a week at night to learn to dance and social ediquitte. oh my god. i dont know why my mom insisted i go but i did. he was a ballroom dancer with his wife. loretta gardner, nancy brown and a few others went with me. didn't learn a thing but did learn to do the waltz that we DID NOT dance at stags parties. thanks for the correction on jennete. you are right. glad for the exchanges of apologies. well deserved. john, cant envision hillary? that doesnt surprise me, as i recall your comments during the earlier conversations during the recent presidential election.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/31/2005 12:21:18 By Terrence W. Grant
Janet:

Cotillion was for $$$ kids...I can remember getting my first dance lessons in Ponce gym and the music was Tennessee Waltz 1, 2 , 3 & 4...yes speaking of waltz...I gave the DJ at the Biltmore $5.00 to play a nice romantic waltz and all I got was LaBamba..he said the Cuban guy with the blue eyes and mustache who grows trees told him to keep it fast and Latin...here I was with a red head trying to make points and when we got on the floor got hit by frailing arms and legs and a few people laying on the floor saying they were trying to do splits. Thanks for the memories

Janet, thanks for straightening me out again. You and Gaston have wonderful memories.
For some reason, when I think of Cotillion, the Debutant Dances come to mind. I can remember going to a few of them while at Gables. I'm being a 100% honest when I say this. One day Nelson Gonzales came up to me and asked what I did over the weekend. I told him I went to a Debutant Dance at the Coral Gables Country Club. He look at me and asked. "How can I meet this girl, Debi Tant?" I think he was being serious.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 07/31/2005 06:32:53 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Herb, I've got a better one than that for you...I'm not talking about the three little Chips ...I was invited to a football game at the Orange Bowl in 1961 to see the UM play, as we waited for the game to start we were told to stand up and remove your caps ....the teams stood in attention on the sidelines and the next thing I hear is the loud speakers .....I listen to the crowd sing a song that touched my heart ...it went like this ...Oh Jose can't you see..... I spoke very little English at the time , so I thought what nice people , Jose can't see and the are standing and saluting him for being blind....by the way I got a card years ago from Mrs. Ivanoff right before she past away wishing me the best of luck in life one Christmas years ago,,,, I still hold that letter close to my heart....

Gaston, that was good! Funny in a way until you look at what you and most of the other Cuban Brothers have gone through to get where you are today. There have never been any complaints or excuses from any of the Cuban Brothers. All successful not only professionally but in their family lives. Ruiz (Both Brothers), Garcia, Scopetta (Both Brothers), Jaurequi, Tezanos and Gonzalez. Not to mention the Brothers who graduated 69 and after. All I can say is, keep up the good work! If this airline job falls on its ass I may be calling on you guys. (John could use another Lear Jet and I know just the guy to fly it for him)
Ajhar, I remember that. Jimmy told me about it. Does your Mom remember? If she does I will smooth it all over when I get home.
Nothing a little corn bread won't fix. If that doesn't work I have a pound of smoked Turkey that is sure to work.
Call you form Chicago.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/01/2005 12:03:38 By Janet Eaton
Debutants. of yes. I was asked to be a debutant in twelfth grade, was so excited, but my parents said absolutely not. That was a little ostentatious for my laid back, coumtry folk. Linda Widdershime asked me and I was so disappointed that my parents wouldn't let me. Cant imagine myself a debutant now!!! Especially during my hippie days. Does John really have his own lear??? If so, I wonder if he ever flys into Boca's Airport. I am one of seven, appointed by the state, to operate the airport.
would love to meet him on the tarmac one day.
My parents didn't have money Terry but cotallion was o.k. for them.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/01/2005 01:13:36 By Anne Jensen Harper
Cotillian really wasn't for the $$$$$$ and was nothing like debutant stuff. A lot of kids in my economic bracket enjoyed it, and I was definitely not $$$$$. The Novakowskis were the most beautiful, graceful dancers you have ever seen. They could have given Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers a run for the money. I always wondered what happened to them. They taught physical education at Gables Elementary.

Herbie I think email got through. Also left message on machine. Terry yes I know George Beckman. This is a shock that you brought up his name. Herbie and George are my favorite people from those airline days. Terry were you a pilot with Nationsl/Panam? If so I do not remember you. Terry if that was you that posted about "teaming up" Im in a long term relationship. Im sure you were kidding. You do sound charming. Herbie I will leave future conversations to speed mail. Sounds good Patty. I got the email.
Terry, I don't know if you like Country Western Music or not but I would like you to do a favor. Listen to a Song sung by Toby Keith. The name of the song is AS GOOD AS I ONCE WAS. Turn the volume up high!
Janet, I don't think John has a Lear Jet right now. He did at one time. I saw pictures of it. A beautiful piece of hardware.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/05/2005 06:02:33 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Herb, How funny you mention that song by Toby Keith....I always listen either to oldies or Country Music and everytime I hear it I think of Terry and a lot of other guys in STAGS....

Janet, you broke my heart.......I always wished it was me.....thats life Herb, I wanted to be a pilot .....But found out I was afraid of heights....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/16/2005 06:05:11 By janet eaton
Gaston, your mistake was not letting me know. You would have been surprised that I always wished it was you too. Well, life has been good to us and we did find our mates after all!

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/16/2005 06:11:42 By Herb Stebbins (68)
Gaston, don't you just hate a tease?
Believe it or not, I can't even get on a later.
The way I make it work is, I just don't look down.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/16/2005 06:14:41 By Herb Stebbins (68)
That was a ladder. It's hard to believe I attended college.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/16/2005 06:35:49 By john Scopetta 68
Hey! Gaston you would have been perfect for Janet, she always liked the cute guys or as Arnold calls them now Girlymen.

Herb, explain to us how you land the plane without looking down??? With Gaston as a pilot the flight attendants would never have a dull moment.

Hey Herb did you read about the knew Cobra Mustang for 07

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/16/2005 07:01:18 By Herb Stebbins (68)
John, he is a Girly man isn't he?
As for landing, I've got that down to a science. I never look down, I look to my right at the Co-pilot. When he gets that look in his eys of "I'M GOING TO DIE" I simply pull the throttles to idle and lift the nose up a few degrees. It works like a charm. Next time you talk to Kimel just ask him.
That Shelby Mustang is something. It would be hard to find a new car that will go 170mph+ for 40 grand.
I think you would look good in one. I remember your Mustang. This new one will probably go a tad faster.
Hope all is well.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/16/2005 11:14:18 By 68
The way those JG girls had us back in those days reminds me of the Almond Brothers song Tied to the Wiping post?? The word Wippy appears a few times in my yearbook writings from the brothers, does anyone remember what it stood for?? Specially does JG boys that were never allowed to hang out with the guys. Can anyone remember all the JG Stags parings that were in play 67 and 68? I can think of a few.

We should get together and buy one of those new Mustangs we can keep it at Herbs house and call it the 68 Stagsmobile when herb is out of town we can take turns using it. Any takers. I am in for 20%....John

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/17/2005 08:13:49 By Herb Stebbins (68)
John, like you I find the word Whippy used throughout my yearbook. Please let me know when you find out what that is referring to.
There were a lot of us that dated JG's.
And you were right about the JG Boys.
Were there any Stags in the Class of 68 that didn't date a JG? I'm sure Gaston or Janet would know.
I'm in for 20% on the Shelby Mustang (Stagsmobile). I think we will need to have it painted ourselves sense Purple and White is not a factory option.

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/17/2005 09:42:27 By marie pogue
Janet, now I know one more reason that I didn't get any of the guys (I wasn't a JG). Herb don't forget to call if you land in Ft.Myers

Dear Tech Support:

Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0. I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child processing that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system activity. Applications such as Poker Night 10.3, Football 5.0, Hunting and Fishing 7.5, and Racing 3.6 I can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications. I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0, but the uninstall doesn't work on Wife 1.0. Please help! Thanks, A Troubled User. (KEEP READING) ______________________________________ REPLY: Dear Troubled User: This is a very common problem that men complain about. Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0, thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING!!! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 7.0. It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system once installed.

You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed to not allow this. Look in your Wife 1.0 manual under Warnings-Alimony-Child Support. I recommend that you keep Wife1.0 and work on improving the situation. I suggest installing the background application "Yes Dear" to alleviate software augmentation.

The best course of action is to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will return to normal anyway.

Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance. Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs, such as Clean and Sweep 3.0, Cook It 1.5 and Do Bills 4.2. However, be very careful how you use these programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program Nag Nag 9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend Flowers 2.1 and Diamonds 5.0 ! WARNING!!! DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Secretary With Short Skirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system.

Best of luck,
Tech Support

Marie ,I told Janet that she broke my HEART, but if I remember correctly ....You were my 1st kiss , playing spin the bottle in the U.S.A and I still lost Herb , if you do go to FT. Myers call me and give me a date and we will get the old fart ( Terry) to join us ....He loves the late 60's people....

Re: HERB STEBBINSPosted at 08/18/2005 12:16:46 By janet eaton
gaston, it seems like marie did it to me twice! first, taking you from me only when we were wee youngins (by kissing you first) and then she took MY boyfriend, David Brown, away from me and MARRIED him!! Even after all that she remained my close neighborhood friend! Someone should have done that with George, then maybe I could have gone for you or John!! Oh well, life has happened one step at at time for me and I'm at a good step now. By the way John, whats the talk of me liking girlymen! I did go after the cuties. George, my first husband, but I can't say my husband now is a girleyman. just the opposite. macho and rugged.
