COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 08/29/2005 05:51:12 By Jim Kavney
<* )))) >< STAGS TDT <* )))) >< COSTA RICA <* )))) >< FISHING TRIP <* )))) ><

We leave from MIA on Nov 5th.(Sat) and return Nov 11th (Fri) Current air fare $275 round trip.

We will be staying in the beach town of PLAYA JACO, about a 2 hour drive from San Jose.

We will be there 6 nights and can fish 4 or 5 days or 1/2 days as you perfer.

The boats will be 24 ft with a Bimini or tee top. They will be rigged with two out riggers and two flat lines. We will be fishing in the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. On the outside we will have a shots at Sailfish, Blue and Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado plus several others. Near shore around the rocks Rooster fish, Cubera Snapper (several other spieces of snappers), Mackerel, Jacks, African Pompano, Grouper and Snook.

The boats are $350 for the full day or $200 for the half day. Fishing either 3 or 4 to a boat.

Cars: will will need one car per four Brothers. A medium size with air is approx. $35 per day plus gas. That around $60 each with 4 to a car.

Rooms: I working on two small hotel in the middle of town with air at $50 per night with two per room spliting the cost. Everything is in walking distance to the hotel. You could walk from one end of town to the other in twenty-five minutes and everything you may want is there. That is except from the boats they are a twenty minute drive form town to Playa Herradura.

This trip is designed to offer a lots of flexibility you can fish half or whole days or don't fish at all that day. There are many things to do other then fish. One day I'll take anyone who wants to go to the Rain Forest for a walking tour at the end we can ride the zip line. Talk about a blast! You love it!
When we get there we will try to do a set up with a restaurent to cook our fish and maybe make lunches for us. Or the Mas o Menos super market is right of the main street fro lunches and drinks.

So, far these are the Brother going: (Plus a few on the fence)

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 08/31/2005 04:48:05 By Terrence W. Grant
The only thing you have to do is look at the Belize fishing trip and look at my smiling face..I laughed for 5 straight days...this will be the same. I would like to see Herbie, Art Abney, Steve B, and Bob Trescott go....and of course John S. and as Gaston some of the guys of the 70's that think they can run with us...12 guys would be perfect for this trip...that would give us 3 or 4 boats...on the belize trip i was traded to the 60's group for a bucket of beer and look at my results....i fed all those fools with my catches. sign up guys

Guys: Will you save me a fish sandwich? We don't have a whole lot of fresh fish here in Gainesville. Sounds like a wonderful and fun trip. Be careful!sa

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 08/31/2005 03:43:25 By Terrence W. Grant
Sylvia...you know these guys will be careful with me as chaperon on this trip...this trip is just a warm up for when you and I take on the snook off Crystal River...tell Joe I said hello and why didnt I get any peach cobbler (sugar free)

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 08/31/2005 04:11:55 By Don H. '57
Commodore,
Do you think you can handle a snook by yourself?

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 08/31/2005 05:56:59 By Terrence W. Grant
With a backup like Sylvia and her working the net or gaff due to large size we can prevail...of course I will use all the skills you have taught me.....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/01/2005 10:15:51 By sylvia jenkins atwood
Terry: I'm willin and ready,"to go fishing"!!! and with your next visit, the peach cobbler is on the menu. Have a great week-end. sa

Gastooooooon,
Do you feel a little out numbered with the solid turn out from the old farts? Get your boys going.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/06/2005 08:54:49 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Don, how can I feel out numbered????? Injay and I can out do you guys.... wait till John S. Helmly and Steve Signs on ...you all be running for cover and even better. if we could get Abney and Herb to come along , you all will probably , not even show up . if they all came along ,you all will make excuses to stay home.... don't forget Terry is with us....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/06/2005 09:17:19 By Don H. '57
The Commodore will be lost without his fishing mentor. The old farts won't flinch. Bring as many rookies as you want.We are ready!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/07/2005 06:21:37 By Jim Kavney

Ok. WeŽll be waiting for you and your group from 11/6, and weŽll have ready 3 boats

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/07/2005 07:57:54 By Don H. '57
Sure hope there's someone to fish rivers and shoreline. There no better fight than a big tarpon. And,you don't have to ride around smelling those exhaust fumes while rocking up and down on the swells.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/08/2005 05:16:45 By Terrence W. Grant
Don: I'm planning on fishing at least one day that way..I have to keep my skills honed as an all round fisherman...

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/08/2005 06:17:20 By Jim Kavney
Sorry, guys no tarpon on the Pacific side. But in close we will have fun catching Snook, Grouper, Jack, Snapper and my target Roosterfish.

Jim

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/08/2005 06:20:57 By Jim Kavney
Another up date!

Today I reserved four rooms at the Hotel Poseidon at Playa Jaco. The hotel is between the beach and the main drag that is about 1/2 block either way. I was able to get the premium rooms at a reduced rate of $50 per night. The hotel has a pool, restaurant and 2 bars along with a little night life. I think we are real going to enjoy the hotel, the fishing and the whole trip. I'm staying in Costa Rica an extra week and then I may extend that. Who knows!

Check out the Hotel Poseidon at:

Don: As tight as you are with the $$$ I dont doubt it let's see that would be $ 12.50 a piece per night and hell you and Keno cant afford it

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/11/2005 11:53:40 By Terrence W. Grant
Jim: Hotel looks great as does the action in the bar area for my brothers who have a few...make sure rooms have air conditioning...as says and/ or...now we need a place to cook our carch and make lunch...

Once the brothers of 60's look at this place they will book trip

by the way whatever happened to the picturs of Steve, John ,Gaston and I in the fountain pool side in Belize I would like to have a copy

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/11/2005 12:24:43 By Jim Kavney
Terry, the Belize fountain picture of the Boy's getting cleaned up, is lost forever or in a bank vault. No one sent me a copy of it, if they had you know I would have shared it with all.

Yes, Terry one of those rooms has your name on it. I'll work out the fish cooking a little later along with the lunch situation.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/14/2005 04:39:06 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Terry, that Photograph of you Steve and John has been put away ,in the never to show file....Maybe if we can get John and Steve to fish in Costa Rica , we will take a new one...

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/15/2005 09:23:50 By Terrence W. Grant
i will call John this weekend...Gaston did the picture come out and if so send me a copy...hell I've posed before and my agent is willing to give you a release

Commodore,

Commodore booked and again is the first to respond to the cause. Seat 17C going down and guys there arent that many seats left. I'm not sitting next to Jim as he would bore me to death about the snakes that he would like me to catch on a road in the middle of the night....I will be too busy in my room planning my approach for the next day's activities........

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/27/2005 06:24:52 By Don H. '57
Booked! 22C going and 21C coming back.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/27/2005 09:28:59 By Jim Kavney
Good news we've got KENO on board, the secret weapon of the 50's team. You 60's guys better do some recruiting and fast.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/28/2005 06:44:57 By Terrence W. Grant
OK...got the first boat filled..Jim, hope you gave him flight info...let's see we have 4 old farts (several with medical conditions) who have made a committment to bond as brothers and to have a good time fishing and busting my butt about one thing or the other. As you know busting my butt ads fuel to the fire and I would think the woozes of the late 60's would want to pile on

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/28/2005 08:40:30 By Don H. '57
Jim,
Re:General info.:
Are they suppling the tackle for fishing( rods and terminal tackle), and do they take credit cards down there?
And most importantly do they have pee botles at the bait store(for you know who)?

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/28/2005 10:06:08 By Jim Kavney
They don't know the concept of a bait store down there, the same with a pee bottle. So you know who better bring his own. If that don't work, I know a cab driver who can fix him up with a catheter and he's a specialist at painless insertions. He only charges a few thousand colones, less then ten bucks. You know if it's to small to hang over you've got to pay one way or the other. All tackle is supplied. We can use credit cards for just about everything except the boat, they deal in cash, the US dollars will be OK.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/28/2005 12:57:45 By Terrence W. Grant
Is he the same cab driver we had in Belize or his MD cousin........Pile on guys the Commodore can take it..I will bring my own bottle, catherer, and certified scale so that I can get a World Record "Rooster" to go along with a Picture sent to both of you...being as slow as you guys are you might not understand

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/28/2005 01:28:15 By Don H. '57
Daaa, I don't get it. What is that pic supposed to mean?

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/30/2005 09:02:58 By Don H. '57
What's the latest tally on the trip?

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/30/2005 04:45:03 By Jim Kavney
So far we have 7 confirmed for the November 5th trip to Costa Rica.

Terry Grant '56
Don Humphrise '57
John Dannelly '57
Jim Kavney '57
Gaston Ruiz '68
Bob Injaychock '68
Keno McNeil '57

We have a couple of other sit on the fence, let hope they fall our way. More people more fun!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/30/2005 04:49:03 By Don H. '57
Good thing this isn't a tomato fight. The 60's boys would be in big trouble.:-D

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 09/30/2005 05:56:46 By Terrence W. Grant
Like the Belize trip, I've been asked by the late 60's group to fish with them; which I'd be glad too if the number stays like it is. Of course I wouldnt mind rotating to give each of you the benefit of my skills. The group looks like a good time and I would like to see a few more guys especially John S and Steve...they supply me with alot of material....

What would really make my day would be a guy from the 70's to learn more about the frat back then.

Terry 56 Old man on the trip

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/02/2005 07:11:42 By Terrence W. Grant
there's a rumor out that we are up to eight fisherman and a new face just joined...good need some new material

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/02/2005 09:34:08 By Don H. '57
Come on Commodore, who is it? One of those 70's rookies?

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/02/2005 11:27:38 By Jim Kavney
OK, guys we do indeed have an eighth man on the trip. Who has already booked his ticket to San Jose, CR. I asked him to post on this thread that he's going with, but after three days I guess he's like Keno, a little shy. Terry stop salivating, he's going to be easy picking. SO, anyway he going to be a help to the 60' team. Welcome Brother Keith Jobson, 1960.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/02/2005 08:10:53 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Ok guys , I'm booked for Costa Rica, we the 60's are the under dog ...we will be out numbered by the 50's guys , but we are waiting for John S and Steve to sign on... Buena suerte 60's ......( good luck)...we will rule.....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/03/2005 06:22:26 By Jim Kavney
Gaston, the 60's boys are going to need all of the "Buena suerte" you can get. If thing stand as they are and we don't get any more guys. The 50's guys will probably trade you T. Grant for a round of beers. That's if we can get a release from his agent. With TG , you, Ijay and Keith you guys will still get your asses kicked by "TEAM 57."

You guys better pray for Scopetta and Bischoff to join the party.

Buena suerte!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/03/2005 07:54:04 By Keith Jobson "60"
O.K. brothers, I have booked my flight from California to Costa Rica. Arriving San Jose on Nov.4th....I wanted to get a jump on you guys so I will meet you in Jaco at the hotel on the 5th. Look for me at the bar around 3:00 p.m. I'm confused; went to Gables 58-59-60 I'm not sure whether I should be considered and "Old Fart" or a "Young Buck". Since I'm such an expert fisherman, any team that chooses me has a distinct advantage and is sure to get the prizes for the biggest, the most, and the prettiest fish! Jim, you have a GREAT website, I wish I knew as much about snakes as I do fishing, but I can only be an expert at one thing. :) By the way, are handgrenades allowed for stubborn fish? If so, I will bring a few...but I may have trouble with customs. Can't wait to see you all in CR and discuss "the good old days". P.S. Is it o.k. to drink beer on the boat?

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/03/2005 07:58:41 By Keith Jobson
Not only will our team get the prize for the biggest, the most and the prettiest fish; I expect a prize for the "farthest distance traveled" to be with the Brothers (San Francisco to Costa Rica).

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/03/2005 08:10:14 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Keith, you are a 60's guy...year of graduation , is what we go by....you also sound like a 60's guy.....looking forward to meeting you....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/03/2005 09:18:04 By Don H. '57
Uh oh Commodore. It looks like you've got some competition for the biggest BS'er on the trip! Keith, glad you can join us.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/04/2005 12:11:58 By Jim Kavney
Keith, beer is in, hand grenades are out. But, you can use Yo-Yo's if you want. I'm sure Gaston will be more then glad to give you lessons. And BTW in fishing pretty doesn't count.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/04/2005 05:23:17 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Jim, there are a few pictures of me and my YOYO , showing the satisfaction of bringing in that "MONSTER", Mano a Mano.......Don, I can't compete with the Silver Foxxxxxxxx....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/04/2005 05:34:49 By Don H. '57
Gaston,
I know, it hard to keep with his fog. :-D

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/07/2005 07:03:06 By Terrence W. Grant
Keith:

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the group...your level of BS has been compared to mine which makes you a CLASS ACT...as you note I've been traded to the 60's group for a case of beer which means I will be fishing with you. If you go to the Belize pictures you will be able to absorbe some of my fishing techniques. Also since I'm senior on this trip I have the priviledge of inviting your most wacky brother Don who came to the STAGS Reunion to go fishing with us. Don was also seen in the 56'(45th) reunion year book looking down the dress of my then girl Russi.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/07/2005 01:07:54 By Don H. '57
Commodore, you're correct! It takes a 5:1 ratio for the 60's to keep up with the 50's. And did the Alumni Pres. approve that trade. As VP I don't remember that subject coming up at our last business meeting which Jim and I held in the back country west of Islamorada while drinking a Coors Light in the shade of a giant mangrove stand.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/07/2005 03:22:14 By Jim Kavney
Terry, if you check out my offer to the 60's boys made on 10/03, you will see that the offer was for a round of beers. I would never start the offer as high as a case of beer. I figured if I went that high they would turn off and we would have to offer them a more valuable fisherman like Keno.
Don, you are very astute to notice that the 60's boys did not accept the offer at this point. I have been working behind the scenes to pull off this trade, but as I told you in the shade of the giant mangrove stand. I did not think they would go for it. The good news is Gaston said they are meeting to discuss coming back with a counter offer. So, we still have a chance. Team 57 keep your fingers crossed!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/07/2005 03:40:51 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Terry, we never offered a case of beer....We will hook you up with a barmaid, so that we the 60's guys can get a free case of beer...We would never put a price on someone as knowledgeable as you.....as for Don ????? he better be ready to put up a fight in Costa Rica....Injay and I are ready for the Challange....with the addition of Keith and Commodore's experiece, we shall defeat " THE 50's SENILE DEMENTIA GANG".. which I believe are having a very progressive premature deterioration of their mental faculties in their old age.. ...

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/07/2005 03:51:02 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
To all (50's) Brothers , I will be having a seminar at the Jungle Inn , on the proper techniques of fighting the Monsters of Pacific Ocean and landing then in the boat while using a "YOYO"....mano a mano......

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/07/2005 05:29:16 By Don H. '57
I thought we were fishing Lake Okeecobee. Have I missed something.

OK Bar maids right up my alley and with the poquito espanol yo tengo ( i know not grammerically correct nor spelling ) I might be able to get a 6 pack of Balboa cervaza...I love being on the trading block but I should reap some of the vig (for you sports bettors).

Don't put down my brother Keno as he is a better fisherman than me...he's just on a bad streak and fishes with John D too much...John has him leaning overboard looking for his dropped watch, telephone, pliers, and drink.

As far as Gaston is concerned one of the all time great HANDline fisherman....I heard from John S today sure hope he can go...told me it's worth the price of admission to see JK in action in CR...I agree but I must say Jim has promised me a great catch so I cant be too rough on the old fart.

I have a change of plan. Kavney suggested that I stay in San Jose the night of the 4th and wait for you guys. I will be staying at the Hampton Inn by the airport and after you pick up your cars I will meet you at the hotel lobby or bar.
Gastonnnnnn, your suggestion about the Commadore and the barmaid is good but how about leaving the Commadore at the bar and bringing along the barmaid and the free case of beer on the boat? With my fishing expertise we may be able to get by without the Commadore. I'm sure he won't mind!

Jim, you say tackle is provided, does that include fishing sticks and reels? Do they have steelhead fish down there? If so, I will bring a box of magnets for Gaston's YOYOs.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/07/2005 08:48:14 By Terrence W. Grant
Keith love you brother you already fit in...see they compared you to me CLASS ACT's...don't know if Don J. told you but I don't drink but I sure can hussle the maids for my buddies. Staying over in San Jose is good idea that way you can get a lay of the land...let me know if you need a name of a Good Watering hole...try Delray Hotel lounge...doulbe button back pocket and dont flash anything over a GRANT (that's a fifty for the unimformed))..in fact break the $50 to two $20's and a ten...Seems as though you doubt the fishing ability of the MAN thats OK I get better odds on bets with these turkeys.

Since I'm the oldest and infirmed I've purchased some medical insurance just in case I hurt my back from catching the big one or being bit by one of Jim's pets...in case your interested

globaltravelshield.com I paid $29.95 for $100,000 medical for the trip which includes jet to states...it's an AMEX company

I did the same in Belize and it gives me a sense of comfort

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/08/2005 06:14:37 By Jim Kavney
On this trip I know Keno will shine bright with the biggest fish, so we have to hold on to him at all costs.
John D has a new outfit with Velcro pockets, so it's safe to be around him when he bends over.
Terry, don't hold your breath. The only action I can promise is with your team mate the great HANDlines.
Keith, I have to research the rules to see if magnets will be allowed in this contest. I think you are now to something for those steelhead seatrout that are all over the place in CR. Be sure to bring a whole lots of magnets for all your team members. I'll have to rules researched by the time we get on the boats.
Gaston, you'll need extra heavy line for your YoYo's.
Commodore of the Enema Fleet, please don't lead younger Brother Keith astray. He'll be way to far from the Del-Rey and the Key Largo to drive. He'll need a good nights sleep for the days ahead. I doubt there'll be any early night once we get started.

You guys out there it's not to late to join the party. You'll be sorry it you let this one slip by!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/08/2005 06:30:40 By Terrence W. Grant
Jim, to me the best time in Belize was meal time with everyone together...we have to make arrangements with a place close by that will cook "MY" fish for the group. Also need a place to get sandwiches for fishing day. Also, we have 5 days down there and 4 days at sea might be enough for Don H., Keno and I so we might take a car and explore something...no snakes please just something for you to think about.

With Injay just staying 3 days you might start thinking about fishing plans deep sea and shore..and taking a poll of guys on how many want each and number of days...i'm flexible but I did promise Don that I would fish the shore with him one day to show him how to (set the hook) catch a Rooster

What's the best preventative for sea sickness
(other than keeping your ass at home)?

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/08/2005 07:11:09 By Terrence W. Grant
Don, I was just looking for my drops which Russi snuck out with her as they are $12 for a small bottle...I will go to a nature store if i can find one around this god forbidden place and let you know the name. Small bottle red label with dropper...two drops one hour before taking off and then as needed...doesnt make you tired or anything

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/09/2005 01:47:59 By john scopetta 68
As a former team member,Don, the best cure for sea sickness is to drink enough the night before so you can blame the puking on the drinking. Take comfort that the pacific ocean is much calmer than the Atlantic and make sure you fish with Keno, who does not mind coming in early.
The accommodations sound a bit like, (see it like a native) which you don't want to do unless you like dressing in a white T shirt and gym shorts your whole life? I would suggest you pressure Jim to have somebody check the place out. I will conduct some research on the area and phone some people I know to get some info on the areas attractions.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/09/2005 03:01:05 By Terrence W. Grant
Wacky Jackie:

Sounds like a few valid points...even more important sounds as if your going to make the trip..you are a key guy for the 60's group (and me as well) and knowing Keith you guys will make a great act...let's see what to name the act...how about...Null & Void

Hope you get your ass on the plane and make sure Jim has a room for you at the Ritz, which has a total of 14 rooms...a few more guys ...we can hang our banner in the lobby and buy the place (with your, Jim & Keno's money)

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/09/2005 06:28:41 By Jim Kavney
Terry,
I've already talk to the hotel owner about cooking fish, it's no problem but I'm not happy with the deal he offered. We bring in twice as much fish as we want to eat, they will give us the dinner with 30% off the bill. I think that sucks but I don't want to start looking for a better deal via e-mail. There is the mas o menos market near by we can get the making for sandwiches there along with drinks, beer, water, ice etc. NOW stop trying to plan the trip minute by minute, lets all relax and agree to fish outside the first day and get a feel (OK, Terry, I know I'm leaving myself with my choice of words) for things. The next day we'll play it by ear. I want to do near shore fishing myself, we'll cover all the bases. Remember one day or a half day I'm taking you guys to the Rain Forest. We walk down a mountain trail hopefully seeing a little wife life and later ride the Zip Line. It's all safe and you'll love it!

Don,
There's three pharmacy in Jaco you'll be able to get whatever you need, I'd be real careful with any drops Russi left for Terry. I buy something sealed.

John,
Gee, your a little late with your suggestions the place is booked and I think it will be rated higher then the place we stayed in Belize. But, I do agree with Terry you do have one valid point about the night before.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/09/2005 08:41:32 By Terrence W. Grant
Looking forward to seeing some wild life...but the Zip not to sure...this is a family site so I wont go into the Zip line....isnt that where you plunge 100's of feet...Don this is what you need the drops for besides a little Charmin

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/09/2005 09:09:18 By john scopetta 68
Keno should get smart and go out with the sixties guys were they take turns instead of hogging all the rods so they can claim the glory at the dock. Gaston does not really care who catches the fish and will allow everyone to have a shot. Terry has to be the worlds luckiest fisherman or the most underrated he catches fish in spite of himself. I think you guys will rally enjoy the place and i have been told the fishing is phenomenal and the rain forest slide is a real treat. fifty dollars a day for a room sounds like a steal great job Jim.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/10/2005 00:03:07 By John Dannelly 1957
Don, regarding your question on preventing seasickness...
The best preventative I have found is Transderm Scop. I have not had severe seasickness in 25-30 years but the 5 or 6 times I did get sick were so bad I thought only death could be worse. Until I was in my 30s I never realized how bad seasickness can be. Those 5 or 6 experiences was so negative that I still take precautions in severe weather and on long trips. The Transderm system is a patch (about the size of a dime) that is applied behind the ear. The patch delivers the medication gradually and is effective for three days.

I used Transderm when I was fishing the Tortugas on 3-4 days trips (leave on a Friday and return on Monday without ever getting off the boat) and it was effective for me. It was even somewhat effective during one 15 hour period of unexpected 45 knot winds and seas exceeding 30 feet at times. We left Key West in 14 knot winds and a forecast of decreasing to near 10 knots. Winds stayed at about 15 knots and the second day out the wind increased to 35-45 knots. Everyone got their ass kicked that day. Fishing was impossible, it was a scary situation. The captain cancelled the rest of the trip, confined the anglers to their bunks and took the long way home from the Tortugas to Key West through shallow water--a 10 hour return for what normally would have been a four hour return.

I have not purchased Transderm in 3 or 4 years but the last time I purchased it a Rx was still required. The cost was 4 patches for about $20. If you have a physican that knows your medical history he will probably phone in a Rx for you if you want to try Transderm.

If you have a history of getting sick in moderate conditions you should bring something. In known severe conditions stick to the inside that day and we can fish together.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/10/2005 06:27:28 By Jim Kavney
Don:
I would take JohnD's advice on the Transderm. If you can get it beforehand with or without a Rx but I wouldn't pay for an office visit just for the Rx. I don't know it they would have Transderm in CR. but they would have a substitute you can buy without a Rx. I use to buy some Rx there and save a bundle on my Zocor, until TG put me onto Canada they have a generic Zocor there which save me around $1,200 a year.

Terry:
You are zip line material (I can hear the scream) there's going to be a couple of chicas with us so I know you'll go. You sure don't want to disappoint them now do you?

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/10/2005 06:28:16 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
John, don't leave me and Injay alone .......your posting gives me an uneasy feeling that you have ruled out comming.....We need you and Steve, the next year will be pure "HELL" listening to the 50's over the hill gang.....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/10/2005 07:59:33 By Terrence W. Grant
Jim I saved you $1200 and now you want to take advantage of a weak old man and use the chicas as a lure. Your heart was repaired many years ago and it's like new..my heart as well as bowels cant take any roller coaster type events. Now a Japanese parachute I wouldn't mind...for all you novice's look that up in your Funck & Wagnells

Gus, agree John S. does sound a little ifffffyyy. But i GUARANTEE YOU that with Keith, you, Injay & I you wont have a more fun time. If you dont hog the poles we might even catch some fish

John D...thanks for your war stories Don H just called me to fedex him some Charmin for tonight let alone for trip...Hell the old Commodore can't handle 30 foot seas....John S can as he raced the big machines across the Ocean but i'm more of a stay at level shore with the Chicas

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/10/2005 08:06:52 By Terrence W. Grant
and secondly spend more time worrying about my BOX LUNCH and less how how to make me scream...I can find screaming on my own lol

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/10/2005 09:58:43 By john scopetta 68
have not ruled out going to CR., in fact I have a trip to Honduras about that same time and maybe I will pay you guys a visit and jump on a boat for a couple of days. Lets see what happens. By the way what hotel are you going to be at??? Terry have you researched the nightlife??? No, Russians as far as I can tell but there is a couple of casinos and Jaco beach looks like a real nice please. Gus I am trying if I can make I will be there. After all you know what they say fish were the fish are and you will catch fish. Even if this does not hold true for all of us. I heard There is at least one casino and for those sigle men on the trip go to mytica.com and meet the lady of your dreams looking good!!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/11/2005 02:08:26 By Terrence W. Grant
John...went to site they want $100 up front as a dating service then you go to gift shop site and buy & mail themn a gift...No Russian's but Jim is like a big guy with a feather in his hat in a pink suit driving a Caddy you get the picture...he's taking care of the man...i may be down there a couple of months Jan/Feb so I have to find a lasting relationship who has a day job working in the library or in a nunnery as I'm thing about becoming a Trappiest Monk..if i can just get Keith to stop taking notes on my plans

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/11/2005 04:40:37 By Jim Kavney
Gaston:
I can't believe your giving up the battle already if you don't have John and Steve with you. You guys are going to be like putty in the hands of TEAM 57.
John:
There's more then one casino within a five minute walk of our hotel. There'll be plenty of nightlife for those that want it, all within a conformable walk of the hotel.
Terry:
My pink suit a little faded, but if I can borrow your white suit, I still have my hat with the feather, we can make do and I'll deliver. If your becoming a Monk, I'll be happy to give you a Monk's do. I'm getting pretty good at shaving heads these days. No charge for a Brother.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/11/2005 06:44:22 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Jim, I'm not giving up....John and Steve ,would sure make life a lot easier, but I do believe the "68" guys can take on anybody...Injay and I just want to spread the glory amongst all of us.....We will circle the wagons and defeat the late 50's ...With Terry and Keith , early 50's & 60's and 68 's involvement we already see the Trophy in our hands again...( remember no bait fish allowed this time).. ...

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/11/2005 07:13:49 By Jim Kavney
Oh no, if you can get bait fish, you fish with them if you want too. Bring your castnet.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/11/2005 08:31:05 By Gaston Ruiz 1968
Jim, when I say Bait Fish >>>>>its the stuff you and Don brought back and claimed were catches...See pictures of Belize...Bait fish is for catching fish ....does not count as fish caught....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/12/2005 06:38:53 By Jim Kavney
Gaston:
That was the day Don and I went out to the flat and fish for permit and bonefish. We were catching 10 inch snapper, we would throw them back and the captain dam near sh*t a brick he want them for his supper. He keep us fishing for them telling us this was where we'd get a big Cubera snapper. We had been had fish for his supper. We never tried to claim those fish as a catch. Remember that was the day you guys won hands down, of course it was the only day. I'm glad to hear you aren't throwing in the towel before we start but it was sounding that way.

Ok, fishing Brothers...I'm leaving tomorrow for No. Carolina to relax and get ready for Costa Rica...try to get more guys involved... I won't be on the site for the next 10 days....see you then...Sylvia , I'll be having lunch at Dillard house , I hope I remember to use the right local language you taught me....

Gaston: You will be full for a week after eating at the Dillard House. I do hope you used the proper Georgia language I tried to teach you. Enjoy the mountains, such a beautiful time of year to be there. We had a place in Franklin and went several times a year. I miss that. I do plan on getting back up there some time this year. Have a safe and fun trip and be careful of those mountain boys. Did you see Deliverance?? Take Heed when you wander way back in the woods. Be sure you always have a hound dog with you, and a long piece of wood. If you hear Banjos' playing, it's time to get out of there. Just a thought for the day to keep you safe. love, sa

Amazing how Sylvia's warning to Gaston ties in with the hotel in Costa Rica...I went to site and studied it for the first time...most of the pictures were of cross dressers...Jim whats going on with this place...hell I dont know if that Good Looking Gastonnn will be safe in this joint..

Don H....whats up with this

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/17/2005 04:42:10 By Don H. '57
TG- I can't tell the monkeys from the cross dressers. I think you need to ask Jim, our tour guide.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/17/2005 05:11:29 By Terrence W. Grant
Jim, you might have mentioned this but our biggest daily expenditure will be the boats/captain do we need to bring cash to pay (you mentioned $100 apiece including tip)..Also you might post cetain travelling tips ie passport, etc...is Keno still the only one on the 2nd flight...if so move his rich ass to the first flight so we dont have to stand around waiting for him when we could be at the hotel having a knot tieing session as in Belize or finding a cafe that will cook for us or finding the next Mrs. Grant

Don really has been sheltered if he cant tell a monkey from some of these guys in the hotel pictures.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/17/2005 06:22:09 By Jim Kavney
Terry, I'm not surprised that you would focus in on the cross-dressers instead of the white faced Capuchin Monkeys at the top of the photo album. Some guys go for the animals, some guys go for the boys in drag. Poor guys just trying to cop a few free drinks at ladies night. I can imagine what people would think it I posted the fountain pictures from Belize, but I'm holding those photos for the blackmail of the century.
I did mention that cash you be need for the boat some where back on this thread and the rest could be on credit card. We will need cash to settle up on the car rentals.
Good point everyone should check the expiration date on their passport.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/18/2005 04:37:43 By Terrence W. Grant
Ahh so you do have the fountain pictures...no blackmail from me...post them...my fellow actors have an excuse they were drunk...me just crazy...just as long i'm not confronted by some lawyer while i'm on the witness stand saying "Is that you Mr. Grant"...Jim you might spell out to these guys how much cash they should have with them for boat and car rental..i sure would like to know and i know Don and Keno never carry around more than $35

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/18/2005 05:05:02 By Terrence W. Grant
WOW I just received a phone call (returning my call from a month ago) from Keno...he is getting psyiced (spelling)for the trip...i didnt tell him I might be fishing for the 60's team and I let him tell me his game plan. He claims he's trying to gert on the first flight but might have to pay a $25 fee...next breath he is closing on his $2,000,000 condo in January...same old Keno..when he used to run with me never had money to chip in for gas for my car...good to hear from him though

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/18/2005 05:20:58 By Don H. '57
I'll have to borrow $5 to make the $35. Maybe Keith has struck it big and can help out us po' folks.
Would think a $1000 each would do it.Better get a money belt or an oversize jock strap to carry all those bills. As Terry ( or someone ) advised, don't take any large bills. You might be making a tip much bigger than desired.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/18/2005 08:14:18 By Terrence W. Grant
No room in my jock strap... yes small bills as I indicated but that was for another reason...same with boat stuff I think a G is a little too Much

Terry, thanks for checking up on us on the east coast..... I'll be able to let you know about Costa Rica, after I evaluate the damage to my nurseries.... from what my associates have told me last night, it does not sound very good.....Katrina took a big chunk and I believe Wilma just took out the rest.......

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/26/2005 04:13:34 By Jim Kavney
Guys, I got power yesterday, phone and cable today. Just got my computer hooked back up a little while ago. Had some damage to the dock and some of the screening part of the screen frame blew off the house. Tidal surge came close to the house about 2/3 up the driveway, most of the yard and plants had a bath in saltwater. Gus, hope things turn your way and you make the trip. You'll need the relaxation after you get things in motion for the rebuilding. I sure we all will need the trip to get our minds off all these hurricanes.
Have not been able to talk to Don, yet.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/26/2005 08:19:32 By Don H '57
Just got the computer going on a generator. Don't expect power until around the 15th of Novemeber. Insignificant damage to the house, a few roof tiles. My beauiful preserve view is gone with the wind. We were very fortunate overall.
The CR tip is becoming very doubtful. Would be a little tough leaving my wife here without any power. We'll see.
Hope everyone is OK.

I hope everything is o.k. after Wilma paid you a visit. I've been thinking of all of you. I hope that Wilma didn't interfere with our trip to Costa Rica. Hope all of you can make the trip. I have my bags packed, passport in hand, cash in pocket, sunscreen and Spanish dictionary. Please let everyone know whether you can make it or not. I can't cancel my plane reservation so I will be there, hopefully not alone.
Jim, are you taking any fishing gear (rods, reels?)..or will they be supplied by our guides?
I hope everyone and their families are safe. See you in Costa Rica!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/28/2005 07:46:55 By Jim Kavney
Keith don't worry you won't be by yourself. I'm in for sure, I talked John Dannelly two days ago he's ready to go and can wait. I have not been able talk to everyone I'll try over the weekend. I went to Miami today and things are not good there from what I could see, still a lot of places without power, long gas lines. Some of the guys are hard hit so, we may lose a few, but we will go with what we have and have a great time.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/28/2005 08:49:14 By Terrence W. Grant
With deep regrets the Commodore must bow out of the trip. Even though Wilma only scrapped my place I never realized the problems on the East Coast. These problems have presented me with time conflicts on the few trials that I have left. I have made a committment and received retainers and I just cant walk away...I've always dreamed of fishing on Pacific off of Costra Rica and I hope that the few of us who cant make it will get the opportunity. I personally called each South Florida brother to inform them of my problem. Many I didnt get thru to their phone. I left message's at Gaston & John S and Jim...Gaston & John never returned my call ( pisses me off); Jim and I played phone tag... The only person I'm aware of who is not going besides myself is Don H as he posted here. I've made every event in the past and this is truly one that I hate missing. I cancelled my flight and gave up seat 17C if Keno ( no answer) wants it
get in touch with airline.also canx special medical insurance and flight delay insurance and told Jim to cancel my date(s) with Rosie.Jim I hope you dont give up on Don and I for a future trip within the next few months...I hope you guys have a good time and if you catch a Worlds Record please dont post as it will make me sicker.

Guys, I too regret to tell you that things have changed drastically for me for now...I also have to cancel...My business got hit pretty hard and everything will be a little different for sometime.. ...Terry, I did call back and tried again today... turn your fax machine OFF....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/29/2005 06:40:43 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Terry, e-mail me with the exact address to your x's and I'll check it out for you....whats her name????? she lives near me...prowlers should not be a problem in our area ....there is more Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay cops in this area than residents....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 10/29/2005 04:16:09 By Jim Kavney
OK guys I made a head count and it looks like we only have two Wilma casualties. Don, e-mail this morning he got power last night and is now back on tract for the trip. Keno is AWOL, but I suspect he'll be aboard the plane after us. Injay is set to go might have a possible problem that could change things but he look 90-95% for making the trip. Everyone else will be there with a sailfish on the end of their line.
I'm not giving up on Terry or Gaston yet. Gaston will find once he sets things up for repair or replacement, unless he's doing the work himself, he'll have nothing to do but complain, complain, complain and wait, wait and wait. The lure of Costa Rica will be to great and he'll be there. Terry was a little to quick giving up his cheap seat because his trail will be postponed yet again and he to will be drawn to Costa Rica. Terry, Rosa not (Rosie) was very sad when I told her today that you would not be coming because of your trail. She said if you plead guilty maybe they would let you come before you started serving your sentence. I spent a lot of time on the phone (International call) trying to explain that you would be go to jail but she didn't understand the concept of "an expert witness". She said she wouldn't wait for you. Que sera, sera!

Don H. I spoke with Jim K. on Tuesday. He said there would be at least 6 brothers going. I have my bags packed and leaving for the airport at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow (Friday). I will meet you guys at the Hampton Inn by the airport on Saturday. Look forward to seeing everyone and catching all the fish that Terence and Gaston won't. (sorry) California Keith

Guys make sure you find a place to buy lunch as Jim forgets to eat...Please pick up flyers for me of hotel, guides or any other place you think i will find interesting as I will probably go down there in January.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/06/2005 09:15:37 By Jim Kavney
Today Keno finally caught a fish, and a good one at that! He landed a 27 lb. bull dolphin. Keith also landed a good size dolphin, 22 lbs., Dannelly and I both caught yellow fin tuna with a double hook up, both about 6 or 7 lbs. Other than that we had a few hits that didn't make it to the boat. Not a lot of action, but not bad for 1/2 day. We ended up with what must be about 25 lbs. of fillets which we'll be enjoying for the next several days. Tomorrow we'll be out bright and early with our target species aimed at rooster fish. Hopefully we'll have a good report tomorrow night. Wish you were here,
Jim

Sound like you guys are off to a good start. Hope the weather holds out for you and you catch some more big ones !!!!!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/08/2005 09:49:28 By Jim Kavney
On our second day of fishing Keith and Keno stayed on shore. Don, John and I fished for rooster fish without any luck. Fishing near shore we did catch a houndfish, snapper and a small grouper. Not much on the fish but a beauitful day on the water, nice and clam, light breeze and quite 135 hp 4 stock Johnson. It was like fishing with a trolling motor.
Today we're going to the rain forest, we have a hour or so walk from the top of the mountain and once back at the hotel we will ride the zip line. That should make for an interesting report from the guys.

Jim

Monday night Kavney took Humphries and I for a reptile hunting outing. No luck, just saw roadkill. On the way back we encountered a police roadblock. Jim had to blow on a alcohol measuring devise. He blow a "zero" at about 11 pm. No beer since dinner at 7. No jail!

This is a great experience!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/09/2005 10:47:45 By Jim Kavney
We didn't fish Tuesday I took the boys to the rain forest. We walked the Skywalk Trail, had lunch, then did the zip line.. We made a day of it at the Hotel Villa Lapas from around 10 AAM to 5 PM. We had a great time but I'll let the guys tell you about it. Today Wed. we fished and did good 6 or 7 dophins largest 24 pounds. Keno took the day off to rest his back after a big day in the jungle. We have some great pictures for the website. Tomorrow we will fish for roosterfish with a different captain. Wish us luck!

Jim

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/10/2005 05:25:42 By Terrence W. Grant
Too blank sender:

First of all I orginally signed up for trip then business (per Wilma) prevented me from going. We do go fishing locally and this was a yearly out of the country trip...I hated to miss this one ...if you check on the left the Belize fishing trip you will see smiles on all our faces as a great time was had by all. I'm sure this trip had alot of laughs as well as some good fishing stories. Besides all the guys who went have money to burn lol

All the guys are heading home, Keith left the hotel at 4 this morning. He didn't want to take a chance of losing his way to the airport for an early flight. I dropped thee other off at the airport a while ago. They'll be home tonight, poor me I have to stay another week.
OH WELL!

WHAT FISHING................

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/13/2005 09:09:48 By Don H. '57
A big Thank You to Jim for arranging our trip to Costa Rica. Everyone had a great time. We all caught fish, great food and lots of Cebtral American culture.
The first day out fishing they put five of us in a dinghy which would have been a real adventure seven miles out in the ocean. A 40 hp engine about 20 years old on an 18 footer with five overweight old farts and the captain.Make that four overweights. Jim still hasn't broke 90 pounds.Thank goodness the engine had water in the gas and we turned back to get anothet baot after about three miles out in the Pacific. I caught the first fish, although the smallest and Keno caught the biggest, 26 # mahi. Believe that? Our two days of blue water trolling produced lots of mahi, enough for us to have fish every night with the difference traded to the hotel for discounted dinner. Another good negotiation by Jim.
Our trek down the mountain through the rain forest tested a couple of us but we didn't lose anyone. Jim convienced Keno to hold the boa constrictor that lives in the rafters at the Villa in the rain forest. Another picture to come. The swinging bridges four hundred feet in the air was a real treat. The zip line adventure produced only one casualty. Got some great pictures for the web site once Jim gets back fron his snake hunting trip. John was the star of the experience, zipping thru the rain forest canopy on a 3/8 inch cable tied to a tree. The guys who couldn't make it really missed a good time.
Keith, it must be noon somewhere!
Don

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/13/2005 12:20:04 By Terrence W. Grant
Six guys in an 18 foot boat...it's a good thing you weren't in the Gulf as you would have been picked up by US Coast Guard...I'm not saying you really needed the Commodore to catch some game fish..but I am. If Keno caught the best fish tells me alot..must have been his time up and someone had to go to the back and wake him up.

As for pictures with a snake..I'll pass...now pictures with Hotel Barmaid (received personal message)that I can go for. As for swinging in the jungle from vine to vine...I'm more suited for Hollywood and Vine. I'd paid big money to see John D swinging in the vines and bigger money with Jim K taking the breatherlizer test.....can see you guys now with your ass's in CR jail

Glad you guys had a good time and wish I could have been there.

Don, which Hotel (just Hotel & service) which should I stay at....CR or Belize....fishing seemed a little better in Belize from reports I got from you guys.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/13/2005 06:48:37 By Don H. '57
T-Blue water trolling is for amateurs. The chanllenge is when you hook up, and we took turns-"who's up?" Keith worked so hard on one we thought John was going to have to give him mouth to mouth. I declared from the on set if he passed out we would just roll him over the side.:-D
I mailed you some material from CR, should get it by Wed. The place we stayed in CR was good. Clean rooms, good service, good food, good location in Jaco, and the night manager was very easy on the eyes.
We always seem to miss the peak season for fishing. I'll send you some pics my fishing buddy sent me, St. Lucie River this past week.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/13/2005 06:50:11 By Don H. '57
T-PS In the next couple of days I'll send you some info on the peak seasons for fishing in both places.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/14/2005 05:59:39 By Terrence W. Grant
Thanks a million...yea i agree..there is no talent in hooking up...it's in the fight and the rod position while reeling in.....if you hooked up to a bull leave him swimming on side of boat and you will catch the whole school and that easier than if they were in a barrel...glad Keith had a good time as he really came along way. You've spoken about the night manager several times is she on the web site for hotel.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/14/2005 08:24:54 By Don H. '57
No, she's in my suit case.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/16/2005 06:55:23 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Don, glad you guys are back and safe....Jim, hope you put up some real fish catches out on the water, not from the local fish monger in Costa Rica....Hope you all had a real good time..... Can't tell you how much I wished that I would have been able to find a couple of days open on my schedule to make it there......John and I , were hoping to surprise you all last tuesday.... Its a good thing we didn't , cause John would have probably end up catching the BIGGEST fish again and ruined your Adventure...Me , I would have been by the pool-bar and fluttered my BLUE EYES at the Barmaids and set up my BIG BROTHER Terry with the Staff.....Keith , how did the OLD FARTS treat you?????? Keno, you are the MAN. It must have been the private teaching of Master Angler GRANT that got you the BIG ONE.....Jim , glad that the road block , didn't put you away..This web site would go to the S... House without you.....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/16/2005 08:34:37 By Don H. '57
Gaston, it didn't take much fluttering to get attention in CR. It was a real life experience. We were a little worried about Keith. As Jim said earlier, he left about 3:30 in the morning, obviously in the dark. When we left later that day, driving over the mountains to San Jose there was a wash out in the road that would swallow a VW. It must've been a thousand feet to the bottom. We barely missed it in the day light. Keith's stock car driving skills must have come to play. He made it safely. Or, at least we didn't see him in the river with crocidiles at the bottom.
As for the road block, the local policia stopped us right in the middle of the highway and took Jim away. Cars were whizzing around us like Daytona. I thought we were going to be rear ended by someone going 60 miles per hour. We nearly ran over the cop who flagged us down, and I mean close.
Really sorry you guys couldn't make it.

Don, how about you????I know you have a camera... you had enough time by now to fix does pictures....SHOW US THE "PICTURES"..........

Gus:

Keith sent me some of his private pictures for my review and approval He caught nice fish and pollo tambien... I will have to seek his OK before they are released to the younger set.

Guys, I've got the pictures except from John-D. I'll call him when I'm ready to put the pictures on the web site. I have a problem with my editing software. When that is fixed the pictures will be up ASAP.

Jim

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 11/30/2005 06:49:06 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Jim, I can't wait to see them.Terry, e-mailed me some from Keith....BOY DO I WISH I HAD GONE.. ... Keno , you are the " MAN" , We want you on our team , next time.....

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/01/2005 07:20:07 By Don H. '57
Gaston,
With those two experts on your team we don't have a chance ( of being out fished by the young bucks) :-D. You did miss a good time. The Ticas were asking about you.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/01/2005 08:22:12 By Gaston Ruiz (1968)
Don, I was not planning to fish the whole time... I love pools ,,, I like to be polite and friendley to just about anyone in a pool setting...But TICAS , it would have been very much a new thing for me ...

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/02/2005 07:12:51 By john scopetta 68
Back at you! I apologize for my departure but I have been stranded without a computer since Wilma. No pictures yet??? there must be some major editing taking place, I can only imagine whith the senior Stags group being the egomaniacs that they are how those pictures are being moved around. No picky no believee.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/02/2005 09:05:27 By Don H. '57
JS
When you get as old as we are, ego is about all you've got left. Don't know what's going on with the pictures. Jim must be giving them some special treatment to doctor them up for us married guys, just in case....
Gus, I think I got my tense correct with the "Ticas". I understand the guys are called Ticos, etc. And by the way, the pool was about the size of a bath tub.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/02/2005 09:17:12 By Don H. '57
P.S. I meant gender, "Ticas". Don't think anyone is an English major, except maybe the Commodore. I got proof of his grammar prowess dating back to 1955!

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/02/2005 08:09:38 By Terrence W. Grant
The closest I ever got proper English was thru Joann Woltz( a real beauty) whose mom was my English teacher... I was such a special student I had my own desk up front right next to Mrs Woltz's desk facing the class....Don were you in that class dont think so as you were a year behind me

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/02/2005 08:33:40 By Don H. '57
Wsan't in that class with but remember them both.

Wasn't in that class with but remember them both.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/03/2005 00:03:33 By john scopetta 68
It sounds like as suspected you had a bit more nightlife in CR. than in Belize and I assume better fishing. To bad the ones that appreciate the nightlife, Steve, Gus, Bobby, and Terry dint make it. I lost my plane fare so maybe another one soon boys???

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/03/2005 06:20:30 By Terrence W. Grant
John...I got my complete plane fare (not even a $25 charge) back as it was related to Hurricane....scheduling problems in court...Yes i too want to go...Gus and Injay ready also...we can get details of hotel from Jim, details of Fishing from Keno, details of snakes from Don, mountain climbing from John D and last but not least details of siestas from Keith.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/03/2005 05:56:08 By Terrence W. Grant
Jim...you didnt post on the web notes that Costa Rica fishing pictures were listed. Good pictures but where is the shot of the bartender at the hotel. I heard alot about her...I also dont see any pictures of the night life...come on are you holding some pictures back like the fountain picture in Belize

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/03/2005 06:12:57 By Jim Kavney
Terry, your right Keith the man to contact about those nooner siestas.

Sorry about the pictures delays. Not up to my usual fast service but for this I had to buy new software. I made a fatale error with the program I use in the past.

The pictures are up; in the left column click on "Costa Rica Fishing 2005"

Commodore,
Now would we look going into the Beattle Club with a camera? It would've caused a riot. Our memories will last a long time.
:-D

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/03/2005 08:38:01 By john scopetta 68
terry thanks for the 411 on recovering the flight money.

OK Guys were are the Costa Rica type fish pictures, I know Jim is holding them back, Sails Marlin, Roosterfish. Those big Mahi jump in the boat in those remote fishing grounds down south. You catch them on the way out to the real fish. Seriously what a beautiful place and by the way the sixties team also can surf, yes ride those boards.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/04/2005 04:31:29 By Terrence W. Grant
The only boards you rich 60's guys ride are emery boards while your getting your nails done. a friend of mine was down there and he had many pictures taken in clubs just like the Beattle Club. But what about bartender? Come on coax Keith to come up with pictures of his catch and release program. Glad you caught alot of Dolphin so you had food, but I have to agree with John S. they jump in boat..........where are the game fish

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/04/2005 09:18:02 By Don H. '57
The bar tender in the sports bar was just a kid( from South Carolina). Commodore, take a cold shower.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/04/2005 11:48:41 By Terrence W. Grant
I was told the bartender in Hotel was a knockout...cold shower doesnt work

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/04/2005 02:00:23 By Don H. '57
Not the bar tender, the night manager. The upstairs bar tender was OK.

Re: COSTA RICA FISHING NOV 5-11th.Posted at 12/04/2005 09:27:15 By Terrence W. Grant
so why no pictures of the
